My Honest Opinion of Lisbon For Digital Nomads : The Good & The Bad

Just wanted to say, I totally understand 😊 Lisbon is so pretty and visually very stimulating but the hills are doing me in as well! I love to walk for hours a day and explore this way but I run out of steam here unfortunately. And getting transit to places isn’t the easiest as you note. I’ve been reflecting on my experiences and you articulated some of my thoughts. I’m in the Alfama district as well by the tram and the area is definitely gorgeous and fascinating.

Yes I think Lisbon is incredible and sooo gorgeous but for certain reasons I decided not to base myself there! I definitely think it’s important to find a place that best suits you 🙌🏼

I’m an American living in Rwanda and I’m looking to go to Portugal or Spain next. I’m not sure if Spain offers long term residency to digital nomads. That makes a difference to me.

Spain has a new digital nomad visa that you can get for 5 years and afterwards you can change over for permanent residency

I lived in Portugal some years back. After living in 5 countries, I was not impressed. It is a beautiful country. My experience with the people wasn't great. I found many of the Portuguese people stand offish and racist. It's totally affordable but I'm big on friendly people and I didn't find the people very friendly.

"Just tiny little cafes"? That's absolutelly false!!! As I've seen massive malls, restaurants cafes just 15 minutes in the metro going north. So my assumption is that you've only stayed in Lisbon's historical center!

Just stating my own personal opinion of Lisbon, as I said it’s a beautiful city and I’m sure there’s more to see but I just personally love other cities more. No hate to Lisbon though, to each their own 🤍

They stay in Alfama or Bairro Alto and think that’s all Lisbon is!!!
