Honestly, I enjoyed the story far more in the ultra version. I do disagree that lillie and gladion had less development here, I feel they had the same level of development just in a different way. I also enjoyed lusamine more because she felt less like a completely unhinged nut and more like a control freak with a martyr complex that felt abandoned by her family and turned that abandonment into anger until she finally realized that her kids were trying to something similar but in a differnent way. It made me empathize with her more. Also, having her stay for the end-game content, and see how she truly changed her martyr complex into a warm-hearted, but stern, guardian made it feel all the more impactful. I even felt a closer connection to hau and lillie in ultra because everything you did felt more like a team effort rather than an individual hogging the protag spot. sure, you're the one fighting the most major of battles, but both lillie and hau carry their own weight in different ways. It just felt like our stories were far more entwined than it was previously. where in the originals, it felt like everyone had their own story that only loosely was connected to one another. and the times were you meet up with each other somehow feels more natural than last time, even though where you meet doesn't change. Further, because of the difficulty spike, the gifts hau and the others give you are nigh necessary (for me at least) and I appreciated lillie's role as healer much more. It honestly felt like a pokemon flavored D&D campaign. You are the Fighter, hau is rogue, and lillie is cleric. Overall, a better, if over-priced, experience to the originals in every way for me.

Dallin Moody i think they should A) add nuzlocke mode, (Hot a hard mode) B) give enemy pokemon at least good natures or neutral natures and almost perfect iv's after the first couple areas C) give each trainer a strategy they want to use, so that even if you do grind it is still very difficult to beat trainers as they have strategies that are difficult to beat.

Overall I really liked the game, but it was marketed to be much more different to Sun/Moon than it actually was. Which of course depends on which priorities you have, for me especially the story was too similar, with the exception of the climax. The best things were, that it was even more challenging than Sun/Moon and that I can Shiny hunt a ton of legendaries. Also it fixed some problems of the originals. Also getting mid generation new Pokemon was really great, but they should have added evolutions to Pokemon like Komala, Gen 7 has way too many non-evolving Pokemon, but I never expected that to happen. Rainbow Rocket was a big disappointment for me. It was just a series of consecutive Grunt battles in the same building. The Boss battles were good and challenging. There was almost no story there, only the Ghetsis really had some story and Giovanni a little bit. It would have been much better if RR and the bosses would have caused chaos across the whole region. This would at least give their appearance any purpose and reason. The Delta Episode and even the Looker Missions in XY had a much better story. The only thing I liked about RR is that it was challenging. Another disappointment was the lack of new Alola forms. They added Megas in ORAS and five completely new Pokemon in this game, so they could have easily added new Alola Forms. Especially because they are really popular.

+Imposter Ditto True. I’m honestly afraid Game Freak will pull this same shenanigan in gen 8 by shoving megas and z moves to the side just to introduce yet a 3rd gameplay mechanic. I hope they just stick with the mechanics they have instead of ditching them for new ones.

The games were hard, but not as hard as you say. They we're only hard for you because you choose Rowlet as your starter, which has a huge disadvantage to almost every major trainer or totem in the game.
@truegreen77 жыл бұрын
I mean, a starter contributes to the game's difficulty only until the second island, since by then, you would have some other Pokemon on your team. The major trainers on the island are Hau (which your starter is super effective against), The Teacher (which is super effective no matter what starter you choose), Illima (who's attacks hurt all 3 starters equally) and Hala (which Rowlet is super effective against), but every team is different and that's the point.

TalosKnight How did guzma change? He said that he sees why someone would like either lusamine not that the new one was supremely better than the old
@danfraser33027 жыл бұрын
TalosKnight, I agree. I like the new Lusamine, I loved the idea of the first Sun and Moon, because we hadn't had a female main antagonist in a Pokemon game before, so it was a pretty cool touch. But I think her motives were more fleshed out in US/UM, she wants to save Alola, at the cost of Nebby's life. And I will agree, she was much tougher in US/UM than it was in S/M. In the first games, she wanted to sacrifice Nebby, just so she can be happy with the Ultra Beasts. I also really LOVED it when Guzma teamed up with me against Team RR. I was disappointed we didn't get a National Dex, Rotom kept nagging me to save and heal my team. As well as give me tips I didn't ask for. Mantine Surfing was also cool just so I can tutor moves without having to deal with the one-sided Battle Tree. The Ultra Space ride was ok, in my mind. It definitely took some getting used to with the motion controls and the Pokemon I found in the Ultra Wilds were some of the easiest Shinies I could find. But it sucked that there weren't any entries with the other Legendaries, besides Solgaleo, Lunala, Necrozma, Cosmog, Cosmoem, Zygarde, and the Tapus. And I'm happy we get to go into the Ultra Wormholes to catch the Ultra Beasts, rather than just catch them on various routes. The Kukui fake-out, was also priceless, even though I knew I was going to fight Hau again, he totally had me convinced he was going to fight me again. The Team RR episode was awesome, catching the Blacephalon/Stakataka was ok, so was helping Sophocles clear out Festival Plaza from Team RR, but it was the first Double Battle, where Lillie teams up with me against not just a traitorous snake like Faba, and his Aether lackey that really got me to see how much Lillie has changed as a character. And just seeing all the villains' motives from their grand plans come to light, considering there wasn't a child to stop them. The difficulty in these games were nothing to scoff at either, as the fights with the school teacher and Ilima, gave me trouble, and all the new Totems were no joke either. So overall, Ultra Sun and Moon were all-around great games, and a great way to put a close to the Nintendo 3DS, and a way for us to look forward to the main series Switch release next year.
@inconspicuousrobot91736 жыл бұрын

@ihavenonameideas36984 жыл бұрын
@@Marvel_vs_Capcom84 i don’t think, the main problem with the gym battles is that the medals are something you barely feel attached to mainly because they are almost useless, I prefer by far z cristals, as rewards they work much better, after beating the test, you get to have access to a new z move which can be the difference between losing and winning your next trial, le lack of usage for medals ignoring the league makes them feel like “empty” rewards
@Marvel_vs_Capcom844 жыл бұрын
@@ihavenonameideas3698 yea but gyms battles are based off the anime and the anime is what these mainline pokemon games are supposed to be following..
@ihavenonameideas36984 жыл бұрын
@@Marvel_vs_Capcom84 that does not eliminate the problem of the non existing reward, plus, if the anime is what the games are supposed to be, then I don’t understand why the first Sinnoh leader still uses cranidos instead of rampardos when you challenge him for the first time. The vibe some gym leaders give is something to have in mind too, if devora’s battle is supposed to be based in the anime one (which I think is the total opposite) then I would love to know where to catch a pikachu in jhotto before the last gym, I mean he look a bit too op. That is something the anime does bad in some cases, yeah, the anime makes surge battle incredibly exciting, but for example, elessa, Erika, and coga do not. And Watson is definetly not saved even by the battle in the anime. While all the totem pokemon have the the exact same vibe both in anime and games, they are wild beasts, with incredible power compared with those of they’r own species and technically rulers of a part of the island, and all wild pokemon in that area respond when they call them. A lot of gym trainers lack of that “strong trainer” vibe, not only talking of the first gym, that problem is moething some gens have even with the 4th gym.Plus in the anime ash has more reward from trials than from gyms, z power is the main reason he was able to defeat or, at least tie, with a lot of pokemon, breakneck blitz, which saved his ass during his first battle against a kahuna and at least was able to have a doble knock out during the finals in the league. Ignoring the obvious league usage, how many times do the more than 30 badges that he has have been useful in battle? None, again meanless rewards (especially when there are more of 30 and it gets to a point they don’t even have names left), they are just used to say “lOoOk AsH Is A VeRy PoWeRfUlL TrAiNeR” or used for a pokemon to steal them for another useless “try to catch that godamn pokemon” episode. But going back to the vibe (because if we talk of reward we already know which is better), there are a lot of gym trainers that you defeat and almost not giving a sh*t about that, the first battle (always much more epic in the anime), the second gym leaders that no one remembers, the 3rd to 5th have a good time with those, you are only remembering they exist during that part of the game, and the 6th gym leader that is always super serious and everyone wants to be the parents of they’r sons. And finally, really? All games from gen 6 to 1 depend on an anime that everyone hates to give importance to they’r gym leaders? Well one point to get off from damond pearl and platinum then!

Here is everything I want to say crammed into one comment: Your Alolan Raichu has the exact same moveset as mine. Also, I had a very difficult time too, let me attempt to name everything I struggled with: Hau's Malie battle (my team was under leveled other than my starter, I fixed that mistake later), Ultra Necrozma, Totem Araquinad, Totem Mimikyu, Totem Togedemaru.. And I don't even think I got all. Anyways, if you're going to say it was hard because he picked Rowlet, it's not the case, I didn't pick Rowlet and I still struggled, these games got an increase in difficulty no doubt, whether it was a little or a lot harder is opinion, but I really can't see how someone would call these games 'easy' I hate all these comments saying "These games are the same as the original! Boring!" It's because you expected too much of these games. Black/White 2 were sequels, these had similar titles to Black/White 2, but these weren't sequels, they were sister games just like Yellow, Emerald, Platinum, and if anything, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon changed more than those games, not to mention, I feel like a lot of the people writing this are the same people who hyped up Pokemon Stars, not realizing this is the same thing Stars would have been. In terms of sister games, they are no doubt amazing. I'm going to keep tossing my opinion in replied to people and it may sound salty but don't worry, I still understand opinions. If I'm not tossing my opinion into the ring I'm going to be repeating the same long paragraph on why saying Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon is the same as Sun and Moon is completely ignorant.

I feel like a good way to make Gym Leaders tougher would definitely be to take some notes from Island Trials. Maybe give each Gym Leader/Gym in general their own kind of battle or strategy, such as using double or triple battles, and with that having strategies like some of the Totems.

Great review! Personally, I did enjoy playing USUM and appreciate the added difficulty. The story of first 3 islands was almost the same with Sun & Moon and this is where people usually complain about. I guess a lot of fans were expecting that USUM to be a sequel of SuMo. But there's no reason to hate the game if that's the main reason because Emerald & Platinum were well received in the past. My biggest complaint with the game would be Necrozma itself. The threat of Necrozma was not developed well enough until we reached the last island. Why did we need to open the wormhole and agitated Necrozma? Should we better to leave Necrozma alone? Because to me Necrozma didn't pose any threat to Alola until after Lusamine attacked it. I think the developer should create the better story to introduce Necrozma before the 4th island so that the player can feel the actual danger and therefore it's inevitable to face Necrozma at the wormhole.

Personally I like US/UM, though still it's no B2/W2. There was nothing really substantially built upon these games that feels needed to validate the continuation of having two versions in a sister game. The majority of the main game relatively felt the same with minor tweaks in the plot and so-on. Which unfortunately I think that after B2/W2, GF set the standard on which Sister games really can't go by anymore. Honestly I think the main problem with US/UM were the elements that stayed the same rather than the elements that changed. If it was set in a alternate timeline in which maybe a year passed or hell even Kukui started the Alola League somewhat early the Island challenge would've been vastly different, more developed, and not so much more of what I was already familiar with. Because the problem with Totem Pokémon is that boosted stats are not, you're fighting a single specific Pokémon rather than a diverse team, all the Totems has specific hard counters and Z moves make it easy to exploit.

@bee43777 жыл бұрын
Yes. This is exactly the problem. OP, I 100% agree with you. USUM just felt lazy to me. Maybe I would have liked them better if they had been combined into one full game (instead of two halves of a whole) or if we had a break between vanilla Sun Moon before these ones. It just feels like GameFreak was looking to squeeze more money out of Sun and Moon without putting too much effort into it and that makes me really sad to think about what could have been if they had actually tried

I loved Ultra Moon. The increase in difficulty was very nice and helped increase my enjoyment of the game. The Mantine surfing is a very fun way to get BP and it has truly allowed me to get it the way I want. Having a different plot was nice and I actually liked the change of Lusamine similarly to how the anime shows her as being still a bit unconcerned, but at the same time kinda awkward as well. Although my biggest gripe is how they went about Necrozma and Nebby. I didn't like how they just went about Nebby after you release it from Necrozma. One thing though, I'd like to thank you for informing me how to change the Ultra Warp Ride. I've been having more with it using the circle pad than I did using motion controls.

The game was decent and I sotta enjoyed it but it was still basically the same game as sun and moon just with a few twecks towards the end. Which I find kinda offensive because if I can put in the effort to play and buy the game than i'd hope that game freak would take the liberty of creating a fun new experience but instead just gave us another cheap rip of of the first game. With the exception of heart gold and soul silver I honestly think these sequel games are a quick cash grab so game freak can squeeze every last pennie out of its fans instead of just getting on with the next main series game which I would defiantly rather. Enough rambling though great video true green!

i like Ultra's take on Lusamine more simply because she feels more accurate she is ment to be a kind caring person, who does anything to protect others the reason why she was so crazy in SM, was because of Nihilego's poison, something most people have no idea was even a thing (Nihilego is the *Parasite* Pokémon people!)

From a visual, character and region, i think ultra sun, moon and sun and moon are oleum but from the gameplay and structural standpoint i feel their terrible. Melemele island was mostly made up of blatant tutorial segments and unnecessary filler and the entire multiplayer infrastructure is honestly the worst in the series in my opinion. I genuinely found gen 5 and gen 4's local and online play to be better then gen 7's (the issues I've mentioned here are only 2 out of many issues i have with gen 7 as a whole) In terms of my personal ranking, gen 7 is quite low.

I am not done yet, but I never lost to anyone. (I just beat Oliva.) My only REAL challenge was totem Marowak, where the battle came down to the wire, and I just had Shellder left after beating it. I was forced to come up with a mid-battle strategy to defeat that thing. I loved that battle, however. I had gotten rid of my starter, litten, as soon as I could transfer over a Shellder, and it became my 'starter.' I expected the Shellder to preform poorly, but he managed to be my powerhouse. (He's a bit overleveled.) I just destroyed Araquinad with Shellder, the Gumshoos battle was the same, and Lurantis got destroyed with a combo of Combusken and Ribombee. I beat Olivia with phantump/diglett, coincidentally, my two lowest levels, only for diglett to evolve right after. For some reason, I love when Pokemon evolve after major battles, so this was satisfying. Most normal battles were just handled by my Shiny Bagon/Combusken, who's types get extremely useful. The easiness I found shocking, because my phantump and diglett were caught recently, but then preformed extremely well after, and before that, I just ran around with Rockruff and Ash's Pikachu, who also preformed well, despite their lack of use and low base stats. On top of that, Shellder was weaker than an unevolved starter, statwise, but still became my ace. Overall, the lack of difficulty with the one exception of Marowakleft me disappointed, and I hope Game Freak makes the games a bit harder, but for the other parts of the game, they went beyond my wildest expectations. My current team: Shellder Ribombee (Shiny) Shelgon Alolan Dugtrio Combusken Phantump

Honestly, as someone who has also played and enjoyed every pokemon game, I really didn't like USUM. You talk a lot about how the game is immersive and I agree that they're taking steps to make the characters and environments feel more real... but in my opinion the newer pokemon games have so many annoying little quirks that break my immersion and ruin the experience. Sure the world looks bigger and more beautiful than ever before and sure the characters feel complex and real but when the game stops me every 5 minutes for yet another unskippable cutscene, it just ruins the flow, and the environment (despite looking complex) is almost entirely on rails. The game actively prevents you from exploring due to petty nonsense like "blackouts" or "an enraged tauros" or a super straight path with no other options. I think that if Pokemon really wants to move forward, they need to update the flow of the game and make it a more free experience. Like you said yourself, part of the appeal of pokemon is the immersion of the adventure and the feeling of exploration. So let players explore! Let them be free to play the game how they choose! Stop grabbing their hand and dragging them through the game how you think it ought to be played! Pokemon could be even greater if they would just let us have a little freedom
@ChampionBlaze6 жыл бұрын
These games were truly amazing and challenging and it felt like you were going a legit Pokémon journey! The world was so interactive and fun all around! There were so many callbacks to previous gens such as the RR Arc and the music remixes; and it had so much nostalgia! Playing Sub & Ultra Sun was the 1st time I had played a main series game in a while and so it was so much fun to get back into them and Gen 7 was a great to do it cuz of the content of the story!

There are too many times where the game stops you. The tutorials go on forever, and it takes a while for you to be able to actually play the game. When you do, it then goes on to stop you again multiple times for pointless feature introductions. These games just felt more intrusive than older ones. I do like the difficulty while playing without EXP Share, though.

This game was the first ever Pokemon game that I've played that is actually a challenge, Totem Marowak and Totem Togedemaru gave me a rough time, along with the RR episode. The music is incredible in USUM and all the new minor features are a lot of fun, especially Mantine Surfing and the Ultra Warp Hole. This is by far my favorite Pokemon game of all time :D
