Man such a stunning car. McLaren's become my favorite brand easily in the last couple of years. P1, F1, this, the 12c, the 650s, McLaren really evokes some emotions in their designs. I'm always blown away when they reveal a new car.

Yep. This car does the LINES so very well. Its the exact opposite of the Corvette C8 where none of the lines make any kind of sense.

Reminds me the MP4-12C, kind of a back to basic with maturity. Original front looks too high with all that dark carbon fiber, the V1 is cool. Pininfarina > Ferrari, "lost" is the word.. Great content !

I think one of my favourite parts of the design is the shape of the headlights and side vents. It looks very similar to the Mclaren logo to me and I think it's a clever way of integrating the branding into the car.

Interesting points. Being one of the 4 guys who did the exterior surfacing on this here in Sweden 2018, I’m impressed you picked up a lot the connecting features, and also the same lines in the front that I’d change myself, had I the say. In all, I think this is a big step forward for the old Mac.

Hi SketchMonkey I think your videos and opinions are great, I watch your entire editorials. I have but one suggestion, to change your aspect ratio or lower your camera screen position. When I watch your videos to "fill the entire screen" on my S20 (would be the same for other similar new smartphones) it cuts out the top of your head unfortunately so I lose real estate I could otherwise be using to enjoy your content to see you in the top right corner. Perhaps add black bars to your edit/lower your position on the screen or change aspect ratio 👍🏽

The other cool points to note are that the side intake makes the McLaren logo, that's part of the reason for the chamfer thickness changes, give the design some more continuity with the headlights. Also I think on the front end the reason the green has that S curve at the top is to integrate it into the slope of the top of the headlights. try to make it flow over the top of the fender to the rest of the car. I think your design looks nice but i think the shallower, steeper angle loses some of the natural flow that the car has

Honestly, I think that both the original and your v1 both look good, The one thing that did bother me when I saw it first was the light bar from the Senna, I feel like it needs to be flush with the edge of that panel and not just stuck on. Great job tho!

It's really a modernized evolution of the 570S. The 570 was starting to get a bit old and outdated, and this is a perfect modern equivalent. It has elements from the newer 720S, and also has that distinctive side vent shape.

Nice Ideas I personally think that the 1st solution could be improved by just following the "upper lip" that joins the headlights together, staying somewhat "parallel" to it The 2nd solution isn't that bad...even if it somehow brings me back to the Lamborghini Gallardo or Ferrari 360 Modena 🤔🤷‍♂️

completely agree with your comment about McLaren having a lot more emotion/passion to their design. I find Ferrari has lost their 'soul' since the 360 and 430, now the cars look over-styled yet very product like (like you mentioned) - like someone on the design team said 'we need some grills and vents here' - they look like cheap knock-offs

People complain because McLaren keeps making cars that look the same even though they look good. People used to say the exact same thing about BMWs and now that they decided to make changes people complain about the changes not looking good. People are going to complain no matter what so I would rather have them complain that they make too many good looking cars even if they’re similar in styling.

The V6 is one of the best egine layouts, the Ford GT, Ford Raptor and the Nissan GT-R all have V6 and they're pretty good cars. In general the 6 cylinder is the best, considering there are also BMWs Inline 6 and the 6 cylinder Boxer from Porsche

I agree completely about McLaren's organic and emotional design aesthetic. And I Love it! @ 5:42 I love the Ferrari's wheels though @ 6:19 the Ferrari - the line from the lower of the door to the rear wheel well drives me nuts! McLaren would make it play off another line Or not have it there.

I agree with you on the excellent fluidity of the design, but I don't think it needs changing at the front. McLaren have designed it to accommodate the huge number plate required in the UK and other parts of the world. This is the best compromise, rather than obscuring or affecting the functionality of a perfect design. A front plate on a La Ferrari or Aventador looks completely out of place and disturbs the intended direction of airflow.

I find this design almost playful. Like they didn't want to take themselves too seriously and have some fun. It still keeps some nice proportions. Like how the sloping roofline runs parallel to the intake. You could draw almost the entire side with one continuous line starting from the roofline.

This design is really nice, and the line flow is gorgeous but I find it doesn't really evolve. The 650S and 720S were almost avant-gardist (with the integration of LEDs and head lights in the body and the aerodynamic which is well integrated) but this Artura uses the same tips. I think, if we ask to a non car-guy to say, which is the newest car, between the 720S and this Artura, the result could be surprising when the first one is already a few years old !

I really love the look of this car, the only thing I don't really like is the back window. I don't really like the way that looks just like on the 570s. I also like that car but hate the back window, to me it look like they forgot to add it and solved it like the way it looks now.

Ok, first of all: Yes the Artura is indeed very beautiful, but there's a few things that I dont like. The rear diffusor looks like an after-thought in my opinion. It could have been integrated into the rear "bumper" a little better. Also, about the front: I do prefer the original over both of your redesigns, but it still isn't perfect. You did modify the black part on the second version before adding the body-coloured "fins". This little change without the fins would be the version I like the most.
