Hey Sebastian, I'm a current USYD medsci third year who was considering honours at usyd. Quick question, when UAC calculated your GPA did they use the most recent 3 years or did they use every year? I've heard that UAC calculate GPA based on every year of study, not just the most recent 3. Cheers mate :)

@@adamschoebel5502 Hi there! I think you're correct about UAC - calculations are made using your GPA for all years of study, and each year is considered equal. In the video, I was referring to med school applications through GEMSAS where they use a weighted GPA and your final three years of study. Hope that helps!

is your pre-med degree the same as BS Medical Laboratory Science? sounds pretty similar to it, but in my country it’s already a 4-year degree. our final year is just clinical internship (basically unpaid slave labor) in the hospital 😂 i love how in yours you have the option to do the honors year, and it seems much more interesting too 🥺 good luck on your med journey! im currently on my 3rd year of pre-med, and watching your videos make me feel like i’m being more productive than i actually am 😂

Hi I have a question!! I'm currently pursuing my undergrad in genomics and considering to take honours year (offered by school of science) or post-grad diploma (offered by school of med). Kinda confused because my course management office says the two are equivalent and that the only difference is the school that is offering it. However, the post-grad diploma has a lower WAM requirement (65, compared to 70 for honours) which I find kinda weird if it's essentially the "same". I'm wondering if there's a difference between the two when I apply to med-school in Australia?

I remember you saying you're half Filipino? I am too 👋 and my uni is in the Philippines (Ateneo) and so the years are categorized by Bachelor and Master Degrees! Perhaps they just label an Honor's year differently? But I haven't heard of it so far

@@SebastianPirie My uni also only offers honours for certain degrees - otherwise they encourage you to just do a masters (either coursework based or a research based such as an M.Res or M.Phil)

Med Lab Sci and Med Sci are not entirely the same. Med Sci is like biomedical sciences, whereas medical laboratory science eventually specializes in micro, immuno etc. preparing you for work as a medical laboratory scientist.
