You're so so so so so so lucky, my parents would never be able to afford a horse for me! They say they would if they could, but because they feel bad for me and I'm getting lessons right now I'm allowed to lease the horse that I ride for 6 months on my birthday. Can't wait! :D

I was super lucky. My trainer called me to come look at a horse one day (I had only tried 2 others at the time) I asked her for a picture or video of him as we were driving out and she told me she knew nothing about the horse exept his age.... We got out there, and he was PERFECT. 16 hands, Dutch Warmblood, 13, could jump 4ft +, and did the hunters and equitation. They even let us do a lease option to buy on him (so we paid for a yearly lease fee at the beginning of the year and then another amount at the end of the year to break up the cost.) So really I only had to look for a week before finding the perfect horse haha.

Wow I didn't know how difficult the horse buying process can be!!! I bought my horse from the riding school I was at when it closed down. No one rode her at the riding school because they said she was too lazy and had bad manners but I fell in love with herald I'm so pleased I did!😘🐴
@meganthomas894210 жыл бұрын
Wow! You rode for so long and looked so hard to find your horse! Im so glad it worked out for you in the end though! I was only riding for 9 months when my first pony came to my barn and I fell in love and bought him. (Lucky me!) Then when I started to outgrow him I tried only tried 3 horses, which 2 were at the barn I was boarding at, so again easy. Then my third I just got offered to ride one day and fell in love so again, complete accident which got me my third horse (: I cant believe how much work you had to actually put in to finding the perfect horse but it sounds like it was meant to be with you two! (:

I know the feeling. I have been riding since I was 3. It took me 4 months to actually find my 1st horse and it took me about 2 months to find my second. I actually started to look for a larger horse, but I ended up rescuing my little Arabian(he's the bay one in my picture.) The barn where you board you have to be happy as well as your horse. Though I no longer board my boys, cause they now live with me on my farm. I just wanted to say that if I know someone looking for their first horse I send them to this post on you tube so they can make there own list. So Thanks

Yea takes long time, I have only ridden a horse 3 times, first time bareback because they didn't own a saddle or a bridle so I rode bareback, with a halter and no helmet, up high hills, scary but so much fun :) But after a year looking for a horse (I wasn't even aloud to get one) I ask my mum to take me out at a miniature horse place just to try and concise her and it worked and while I was there I found my perfect horse Cherokee :) and I am getting him this weekend hopefully. He may be a miniature horse, but still a perfect horse for me and I will make my way to the bigger ones.

I'm not going to buy for about 1 year or more, but my barn has horses for sale, a bunch of the schooling horses are available for sale/lease, but I'm not sure what the prices are so...(like for all I know they're all $18,000) Can someone or multiple people please reply with how much their horse was and what it was able to do when you purchased it? I'm really not sure on that bc right now I feel like the most I could do is $2,000 but all of the horses I've seen in that price range are pasture horses or trail horses. If I need to up my price range of like to know ;)

I live in England, so I don't know if that will make a difference or not, but for what it's worth: For a decent, well-schooled all-rounder you can expect to pay anywhere from £1000 (at the very lowest) to about £4/5000. Anything over that and the owner is either pushing their luck or the horse has fantastic breeding, is a higher level competitor or generally worth a lot more. Unfortunately I don't have a horse but I've been looking around and the ones at the top of my list are fully schooled, can jump, have generally done xc and maybe some competitions. they're all under £3k. but tack isn't often included. if you're looking at horses schooled to a much higher level that compete and specialise, it would be more. basically the difference is if it's a family-type horse (that's still capable) or more of a competing prospect with good breeding. again i don't really know how US money value compares to GBP

I went through the process of looking for a horse for three months. The horse I've finally put a deposit down for has been ridden by my instructor previously (the owner is a friend of hers) so I have not ridden him yet but I've seen videos and my instructor is a paralympic rider so I've taken the plunge since he would have been sold two days ago if I had have ignored him. But I'm riding him for an hour or so tomorrow and bringing him home in four days. ^_^

ok...im sure it drives you insane with these sorts of questions, but...here's my story: ive been riding for a little over 5 years now (im 12 1/2), but due to my dad's financial limits, i can only ride once a week (its always been like that). my mom doesn't work anymore, so basically it comes down to my dad's money, which is hard since i don't want to be selfish (my older brother always makes excuses for everrryything by saying that i get to ride horses). ive never even QUARTER leased before (if there's even such thing). we just don't have the money. i know by 5 years, people are thinking "wow! you should totally lease and do this and that!" but a lot of things happened, like with my first trainer, my horse spooked when i was still cantering by holding onto the saddle while on a lunge line, and i literally had to start over riding (COMPLETELY, I was scared of everything after that), then, 4 years later i left that trainer and went to the barn im at now, but for some reason they started me over with the jumping part of riding. i jumped, i'd say about 20 inch verticals (?) on a veeerrry difficult little welsh pony, (i loved her anyways) but when i went to the new barn i was jumping, like, 6 inch verticals on a little beginner pony (i have no idea why...). I'm still there now, over a year later, and im progessing well....kind of. i a lot higher now than when i first did when i came to the new barn, but not much higher than when i was with my first trainer (not that i can go back to her). i jump, probably i'd say 24 inch verticles....for a while i was on easy, fat, slow horses, but now my trainer has finally believed in me enough to put me on...what i'd say is a "project". she leased two horses for the winter, from the same barn. one's a veeeerry overweight pony, and the other is an adorable small sized horse, a quarter horse. I love the quarter horse. they are both horribly trained, so its fun to teach them (to bend, do transitions properly, halt in a straight line after a jump, not to run at a jump, etc). well, my barn is only leasing them for the winter, then they have to go back to the owner. but im pretty sure my trainer said that she wanted to buy henry (not sure about the other pony, May). i was really happy to hear that that could be a possibilty, because i really like him, i finally got to ride a difficult horse.....wow. that was long. sorryXD. anyways, the point is...do you know how much it cost to half lease? im sure its different for each barn, but on average? what do you get to do with a half lease? at one horse barn website, they said for a half lease there it included 2 rides a week plus a lesson a week, and im pretty sure it said all for $350 a month...do you know if the lesson is INCLUDED? or do you have to pay for that separately? im sorry for the long story, its just that when i dont explain it all, people don't understand certain things. i really hope someone gets back to me! do you know if it's worth it to HALF lease? we wouldn't have the money anytime soon to full lease, im sure. it's just that by now, at 5 years of riding, everyone rides more often than 1 time a week, and everyone seems to be leasing or having their own horse. one of my old friends that used to ride with me with my first trainer used to lease all the time, then she moved to a different barn (that i tried at but didn't like) and she leased a horse, and then bought a different horse, just recently. she's been riding for two more years than i have, but it still hurt to find that out:(
