@@Heavens-Humanaterian-Army rich? You don’t have to be rich to have savings. But when you are debt free as she says they are, she should at least have a dollar to her name. The fact that she doesn’t is proof in itself she is at minimum, not good with money. They are married. So they should have the same bills. Why does he have a savings and she doesn’t?

@@joshw7415 Doesn’t that also mean the husband is working to support himself? And even if both people are contributing to the bills, then it should be cheaper than her paying the bills all by herself. So if they are both supporting themselves and are both managing their own money, then why does he have savings and she doesn’t? I’m not saying it’s right or wrong but I agree we need more information to not fill it in with assumptions

I think it’s OK for couples to have an account for monthly expenses, an account for the targeted savings but why can’t each one have their own separate account also? I highly doubt that would ruin the marriage and many women and men I guess enjoy having their own separate funds that they can do with it as they wish with no accountability such as buying for themselves or others as gifts and such. If she has no savings that means to me that at her age she has no ability to save money, therefore I would certainly not want to Commingle my funds with someone who cannot save either by not earning enough or by spending too much.

I'll bet any money she would bankrupt them if not kept on a very short leash. And if they have been together for 10 years and married for a little while, what did she bring into the relationship? Nothing? If nothing, why is that? She's not young. If she's completely broke at her age that is a major major red flag.

Regardless of gender if you are in a relationship where the partner "doesn't allow" or "controls" key aspects of the relationship, like money you need to get out. Now the Ramsey people are pro marriage and will tell you to get help etc, but work on the marriage. Its rare that someone willing to implement that level of control over someone they "love" can be reformed. Yes it happens but its likely the exception not the rule. This woman should lay it out clearly for this man, assuming everything she is saying is true, of course we only have her perspective. Tell him what you want, what your expectations are and then work on a compromise. If he is unwilling, go see a lawyer. He's living in a fantasy world. Marriage is a legal contract, and in most states it favors the woman tremendously. In this scenario, she needs to use that as leverage. Otherwise its more misery for her.

The comments about how this is all the wife's fault are out of line. We don't know the whole story. I know how hard it is to get a miser husband to spend money. My husband and I are debt-free, are everyday millionaires, and are set for retirement. Our financial planner shows us the numbers and how we will reach 95 yrs of age will millions in the bank and my husband STILL has a hard time spending money and enjoying it. My husband's issues with money are based on an insecure upbringing and deep-seated trauma. Please don't blame the wife. It is difficult to live with this.

@@sackettfamily4685 You clearly didn't read the bible. Go back and read Ephesians. The man is not only the leader, but the one God holds responsible for that leadership. The husband's role is a sacrificial one. The woman submits to her husband's leadership, with love and respect. Paul is very clear about this.

@@agentooe33AD and I think it's been mis-interpreted to say that. When deciding what I believe, I looked at every story in the bible and the male/female interactions and concluded that men and women are equal in God's eyes. Also in my personal life, I've witnessed how easily abuse(physical and the others) happens when, man is considered leader. When they're equals, she's treated as such. When he's leader, she is treated badly. I don't yet know anymore, what I believe about leadership in churches and women. Because what about the female missionaries? How does that fit into, men only leadership? My faith is a relationship and I don't have all the answers. But that's ok....I'm still walking with him.
