I love how creative all the ikea cabinet hacks have been, and how all the innovators are coming up with new ways/products/mods to customize everything - the magnetic additions and the little clip on shelves are sheer genius 💋🤌🏾 For your custom shelf, you can try gluing little felt or cork “feet” to the bottom of your trays or planters to keep from scratching the finish. Or, I imagine you could possibly reapply the finish at some point down the line if it continues to bother you Lookin great though! 🪴♥️

right! I love going through the ikea cabinet pages and seeing what everyone does and all the cool custom stuff people make! Ooh yeah that would be a good shout to keep the metal shelf from scratching... I'll look into that. My only concern would be the feet going mouldy as I'm not the most careful when watering and the humidity is quite high in there 😳
@ninabeena832 жыл бұрын
@@GoodGrowing an excellent point 🤔 I don’t know what they’re called but there are little plastic sticker “feet” you could maybe try too. Like the bottom of appliances have them sometime to prevent scratching counters…

The second USB on your fan is for daisychain connection, it means that you can power supply the second fan from the first one, so you don’t actually need dual USB port, but only a single type 😊 by the way love the makeover, you’ve done an amazing job ❤️🪴
@GoodGrowing2 жыл бұрын
ahhh that makes sense.. I suppose I could have daisy chained them and not gotten a new plug 😂 but I guess this is better for me because there's less wires in the actual cabinet, they go out pretty quickly

My skadis pegboards molded BIG TIME and I just put my cabinet together in February. I switched mine to an acrylic pegboard that fits the skadis accessories. I do like the big baskets this wire one can hold though! Thanks for another great video Emma! For your gnats you should try using mosquito bits if you haven’t already! Top your plants with it and water your plants with water that you let the mosquito bits sit in for a day or so, it gets rid of any in the soil or eggs waiting to hatch! You’ll still need the yellow traps for the adults flying around.
@GoodGrowing2 жыл бұрын
yeah I think many people have had the same issue with the skadis ones... I'm honestly surprised mine lasted 1.5 years without going insanely gross! Acrylic pegboard sounds good as well. Have you got sort of shelves for it? Yeah I think mosquito bits is next on my list of things to try. I've been doing hydrogen peroxide soaks in hopes that that would help but maybe I'll go straight in with the bits next time instead 🤷🏻♀️

What a nice makeover! I think the back with the grid is visually more appealing, it's matches the interior of the room nicely and the dark background colour really compliments all the beautiful plants in front of it. With the new wire baskets, stands, shelves ect. and the look of the cabinet itself being all tied together really gives a highly aesthetic visual!

I need at least two fans on most of the time inside my cabinet, otherwise there’s a lot of mold growth 🤢, specially with terracotta pots and sphagnum propagations, things can get moldy really fast with the weatherstripping and humidity reaching up to 85% at night, but it’s my favorite hobby, constantly rearranging my greenhouse cabinet 😍 I’m absolutely in love with your Alocasia black velvet 😍😍😍 can’t wait to get one for my cabinet! I love how your cabinet out!!!
@GoodGrowing2 жыл бұрын
yeah I've been keeping the new fans on from 7am to 10pm since doing this and I think it's defo helped to create more air circulation. Before when the fans weren't working the humidity was up around 90%+ most of the time but now it's been high 70-80% which I think is much better. I've not got mine weatherstripped though. it's so so fun to rearrange isn't it! you gotta get yourself a black velvet!!!

you could add little felt stickers (idk what they are called but they are usually used for chairs) underneath your planters or trays so that they won’t scratch or harm the metal shelf anymore

to solve the damaged metal shelf you could just stick a layer of metal spray paint over top, idk what it's made of or how rust resistant it is but metal paint although a lot more expensive than regular spray paint it protects from rust for literal years. If it's made of something that genuinely won't rust just get a can of regular spray paint :)
@Darenim2 жыл бұрын
I have a feel it isn't rust but just wear from shoving pots around on the surface. If that's the case, paint would wear and chip, but soft pads under the pots would fix it.
@crochetqueen64402 жыл бұрын
@@Darenim I absolutely agree with it not being rust, I only raised that because uncoated metal will often rust and to paint it with metal paint would be a good way to avoid that in the future since it's a high moisture environment. But yes, those bumper things she spoke about for avoiding noise would work great on the bottom of pots, good idea
@Darenim2 жыл бұрын
@@crochetqueen6440 Ah that makes sense! Thanks for clarifying.
@GoodGrowing2 жыл бұрын
yeah that does make sense. If it gets worse over time I'll likely give it another spray with metal paint. I think that's what it's coated with originally. I know the seller makes uncoated ones so my first instinct would be to say it's not something that rusts but I'm not entirely sure! Either way thanks for the tip!

I want to keep my humidity quite high as lots of the plants I have in there are tropical and prefer higher humidity. I don't even add any extra humidity and I haven't sealed the cabinet so it's just naturally that high 🤷🏻♀️ and I know I have a serious fungus gnat problem but we're working on it 😅
