My INFP Friend Has His Own Personality Type System Based On Cats And Dogs

My friend David explains his own unique personality typing system based on cats and dogs. Let me know your thoughts.

A couple of people have said to me that I remind them of a cat. One said specifically a Norwegian Forest Cat. I’m an INFP and love cats and dogs equally. I do resonate more with the energy of cats with the way I live 🐾

If I had to guess I'd say our dog Iggy is an ESTJ. As an ENFP I feel I'm more of a dog type, because I think I'm more impulsive and open about my emotions? To me a cat is more secretive and scheming, like the kind of person who would try to start a cult on their KZbin channel

AH I'm so happy right now, I've been waiting for David's return to vondelpete! So glad to hear him flesh out his ideas with no AI interruptions. I really like this cat-dog system because, as you said near the end, it's easy to identify the types, and I agree with this being very useful for everyday dynamics in different settings, or even as a first approach to someone else as you get to know them and figure out who they are and what they're like. I find that putting those aspects in simple terms helps me a lot. I suppose it would seem very simplistic to some, but it's true that we aren't 100% one or the other, and it also allows for some subtypes. Yet I feel its biggest strength is its simplicity. I feel it would have come in very handy back in the day when I taught at language schools and I was at the head of groups of people, trying to get them to work together 😅

Great to hear that! Yeah its simplicity works nicely, it doesn't allow for the ridiculous convoluted cognitive function arguments and is actually quite a nice every day and practical system. I will let DC know your thoughts! :)

Haha yes the unexpected David cat behaviour kind of made the video I think! I wonder if David and I should create an actual test or if it just lives in his mind...either way, I know inside I'm very much a cat :)

YES!! David is back! I like this, I’m going to start using it in my life. I feel like I’m a cat…I feel that deep down in my bones. It’s so weird, it fits so well!! I feel like the majority of the people in my life are cats as well. A few dogs I guess. Because dogs are pack animals and I don’t normally stick to a pack. This is such a good theory! That diagram is a work of art. I feel like it should be framed and hung on a wall.

Of course - another 4w5 cat! Should have known. INFJs, to be fair, seem to go either way in this cat-dog theory (which is scientifically sound). I'll let him know about hanging up that diagram, he probably has put it up already!

Does anyone remember horse-muffin-bird system? You have 3 spots and can be any mix of those. Ie bird bird muffin, horse bird horse, muffin horse bird, bird muffin horse etc. Also i had a friend who would identify personality by how he would prepare and serve the person as food ie mock duck, charbroiled burgers, "oh her? Hmm, some kind of soup".

Vedic astrology and the Nakshatra system in it has some pretty similar things to say. They are even more specific and have various attributes associated to each Nakshatra including an animal. Male and female versions of animals are seen as having different energies. I am not sure if i 'believe' in astrology but i have been looking at it more non-judgmentally and I am very fascinated by that system. Also modern day astrology is a bit of a hack, it's an ancient system with deep roots. Both Indian and Western.

Thank you for this, I want to have my own little deep dive into astrology, since it has such ancient roots, and this whole focus on the idea that humans have these different personality types. It's funny isn't it, there's the modern astrology image but there's the weight of the ancient system which is more interesting, and it's a bit like MBTI and the modern corporate vibe of it all, but much more interesting if you delve back into Jung and philosophy and so on.

Hi Pete, Your friend's system is interesting and his diagram seemed more like a scheme. Haha infp here, when I was little I used to tell people that I could tell their personality traits by what toppings they have on their pizza, but I would just make it up as I went along and say the most generic crap like “Oh you like margarita pizza? That means that you like tradition and don’t take risks, but small things in life please you easily.” And they’d be like “Wow you’re spot on!”😂 With this one I’m definitely a cat. P.S. this is so random but I saw a Pink Floyd tribute band last night and the bassist was practically your twin, just a bit older, similar face, long hair and all, made me smile haha
