Arguing ‘science based’ vs. ‘non science based’ lifters doesn’t even make sense when you think about it. Everyone uses science. Whether you’re counting macros, managing weight, or lifting by instinct, doinf curls, it’s all based on the science of how our bodies work.

Exactly. Its a buzz word, but it's redundant. Experience is the best teacher. Reading some books doesn't supercede putting in the work. The most notable examples in the space aren't doctors, though they've grown into similar philosophies and understandings. It's all science and art.

No science based lifters/fitness/bodybuilding influencers overly focus on what’s optimal, “studies”, emphasizing to much on what new research says and over complicate things - they take it to a point of obscurity and to the point of actually no longer understanding science and academia. Most fitness studies are flawed. Its damn near impossible to do a proper experiment and research study regarding fitness- to many variables, to hard to get proper sample size, too expensive, cant keep variables the same, its primarily driven by higher education academics doing studies and research to prove they run studies/funds/get published to either get hired doing something more lucrative or get more grant money and donations to the department. Any real ground breaking research is not public, private, off the books. No pro athlete, Olympic athlete or pro sports/olympic/national sports team/org is giving away any useful knowledge they discovered. People have made gains doing bro splits for decades. People made gains using basically any split going balls to the wall with no periodization or programming everyday. My father was a natural bodybuilder in the 1980’s. Competed and everything. Back then the popular split was push and pull day 1, arms day two. Day three Legs. Repeat and no rest days. Cardio in the morning with abs. Cardio via heavy bag work after lifting. Jump rope evening. The goal was to increase the weight you could do on the classic big barbell compound movements but for (basically they cared about increasing their max weight weight was for 4 sets of 10 with 60 seconds rest - a high 1 rpm was not impressive or their focus for them). Their workouts had heavy low rep sets 1 rep - 6, then 8-12, 12-20 and burnouts drop sets, beyond failure. They did did a fuck ton of exercises. Basically think training like Dorian and Ronnie and Jay cutler in same workout. They made gains

Much love, Chris. Started watching your channel when I was a freshman in high school back in 2011. I recently finished my master's in exercise science. I'm a medical exercise specialist, exercise physiologist and strength & Conditioning Coach and you're absolutely right about the mind/muscle connection. The literature also supports it. Visualization of a movement activates the same parts of the motor cortex as actually executing the movement. Imagining executing a movement illicits the same response in the neurons of the muscles utilized in the movement as actually conducting the movement. This is from the literature. That is literally the science. You're absolutely correct on that one. Keep up the good work.

I never saw mind muscle connection as imagining the movement, but how well you are able to activate the muscle you’re trying to train. You can do lat pulldowns with heavy weight with poor mind muscle connection and poor form but if you lower the weight, increase the time under tension and really try to feel all the muscles working, you will much more efficiently target the muscles intended to be trained with the lat pulldowns

In boxing every move is grounded in science. It’s not just about throwing punches, it’s about understanding angles, timing, body mechanics, and energy efficiency. When you approach boxing as a science, you gain control over your power and precision, reducing the risks to yourself while maximizing effectiveness against opponents. Trying to learn boxing without understanding the science means I’ll fk you up. When you meet someone trained in the full discipline of boxing, they’re not just reacting, they’re anticipating, adapting, and applying years of strategy and technique. This isn’t just for show boxing science makes a real difference in performance, and that’s why I’ll always have an edge. So I guess what I'm saying is, bodybuilding might be different I guess. You can just go to the weight, not know any science, just lift the weight and get a little bigger. But you can never be a pro bodybuilder though, without the science.
@BeastmodeJones3162 ай бұрын
This was a great explanation.💯 The sweet science of the art of boxing, is backed by the laws. Notice, the punches that tend to knock you off your feet, are the ones you don’t see coming. Thats life! Things that hit you hard, while you were off guard, and you never saw it coming; can “knock you off your feet.” Example: you find out the new born baby isn’t yours and you assumed that you were in a happy and healthy marriage. The paternity test proves otherwise. This situation can knock a man off his feet in a “metaphorical” sense.💯💎

@@grumblydoore8551 I respect the science of boxing but with all due respect, there are dudes out there that are so imposing physically or so mentally set up to be fighters, that boxing those guys doesn't work, regardless of being a student of the sweet science. To be the best boxer you need to actually be cut from the cloth of a fighter. If you don't have the spirit of a fighter it doesnt matter how good of a boxer in science you may be. Just like there are successful bodybuilders who didnt understand the science at all but just were genetically blessed and lifted hard and heavy.

@grumblydoore85512 ай бұрын
@@GeneticMasterpiece1 Respecting the science is crucial even for those naturally gifted. Sure, some people have that genetic edge or fighter’s spirit, but without applying science, they’ll never reach their full potential. Being big and strong alone doesn’t make you a better boxer, it’s applying technique and strategy that defines skill. Look at bodybuilders, someone like Paul Dillette had all the physical gifts but didn’t go as far without the science, whereas Mike Tyson or Ronnie Coleman used their genetics and mastered the science to become legends. It’s that combination that makes greatness. It’s not just about size, giants who didn’t apply the science, like Ronnie Coleman, have been beaten by 5’4” bodybuilders like Lee Priest. In boxing, it’s timing, speed, and knowing how to use your unique edge that counts. Everyone has a gift, like Chris Jones..a lot of guys, even on steroids, won’t ever look like him, especially naturally. Not everyone’s biceps are gonna be huggin HUGGIN’ like that. 😅

I actually watched the debate and Mike did not say that mind muscle connection wasn’t important. Chris then literally switched gears and pressed him about click baiting ppl with his titles & using mikes ethnicity to condemn him for using such tactics. Been a big fan of Chris since the POG days but since his spiritual awakening the god complex is slowly but surely seeping through. Which tends to happen to a lot of people when they have an awakening or heroic dose of psychedelics. You can see Chris is clearly jealous and he admits it. He was mad that Greg didn’t do a natty or not on him even though it’s clear Chris is natural.. a Top Tier Natty if we are being honest. But Chris seemed to want more recognition. There has been a changing of the guard when it comes down to the top guys of the fitness community. And Chris has never fully regained the popularity he once had since the POG split & for awhile he stopped pumping out videos as often as he used to & that algorithm is unforgiving. Once again I love Chris and a lot of his advice specifically when he speaks of universal laws and the importance numbers are pure gold. But sometimes that pump chaser shirt should say clout chaser instead.

Great video Chris! My opinion might not be the best example and I could be wrong, but having the mind to muscle connection allows for better muscle stimulation, and activation. Similar to visualization. Whoever doesn’t understand that, doesn’t understand bodybuilding. When you’re doing bicep curls, you’re not thinking about or focusing on how your legs feel. Your goal is to become conscious of the biceps contracting and relaxing, while actually going through the concentric and eccentric phases of the movement. As an example, The point of biceps curls are to build and strengthen the biceps. Yes there are stabilizing muscles, antagonists and protagonist muscles involved, but the goal of bicep curls is bigger biceps. Not bigger legs.
@BeastmodeJones316Ай бұрын
I like to think of it this way, doing a backflip takes a specific amount of skill and technique. However, if you do the same backflip on a balance beam, you have to apply a bit more focus and pay more attention to your balance and some minor details; by using the depths of your mind. That’s how weight training as a bodybuilder is. Performing the exercises takes effort but to really connect with the muscles deeply, you gotta apply more focus and attention to details than normal if you wanna get to the next level.

I didn't watch the discussion, so I don't have context. Muscle activation can be effected through fascia, reflex, muscle memory, nerves, conscious effort, and so on. It gets even more complicated when considering phantom limbs (amputated limbs with nerve still intact) and immobilized limbs ( where a broken arm or leg in a cast may be 'exercised' or toned by exercising the other limb). So conscious effort from upper level brain activity is only one aspect of movement and exercise. Also, with the term, "Jew", it depends on experience and how used. Again, I don't know the discussion or context, so can only make inferences from what you said? "Jewish people", "Jewish man or woman" is seldom spat out as a racial slur. In today's world, with the attacks on Israel, the support for the attacks in Ivy League Universities, and the growing [ and very dangerous] increase in vicious antisemitism in the US, the UN, and internationally, I could imagine that someone might be cautious when hearing the word "Jew" used in an angry or aggressive discussion.

Bodybuilding is a science, people need to understand where it comes from. To be against science means you are against the fundamentals of bodybuilding such as, sleep time/eating the right amount and calories/the anatomy of the muscle how the joints work and also how your body is structured to prevent injuries/Even steroid usage (you cant just blast how ever much you feel), so when bros bash science they forget where it starts and originates from. The base form of origin of bodybuilding started off average and improved overtime with the help of science. But I feel like bodybuilding is not simple enough and people need to follow the fundamentals to make progress. not nitpick at different shit trying to skip the hard parts of bodybuilding such as going fkn hard. I also feel like you got to get all the fundaments in place before you jump into science.

There was this girl in class who could make her ears move, and at the time I could not. I remember from that day using my inner voice (the one you hear in your head) to tell my ear to move. So everyday I would do this and about a 6 months later my freaking ear moved, and I’m not talking about moving my eyebrows or anything trying to make it move. With a relaxed face it moved. And later I figured out how to move the other one and it didn’t take no 6 months the second time. So I know first hand that the MMC is very real.

@@BeastmodeJones316DO Not lower your passion (others feel is aggression)... Far too many times men are told to be softer and more "politically correct"... If we are to submit to a construct designed to lower our passion, controlled aggression, thus, a goal of lowering testosterone in todays men.. We are doing it wrong...... I'm not saying be an asshole... but men are barred from being men far too often and asked to be soft..... I speak softly to my kids.... It's not my job in a back-and-forth, to have a weaker tone when conveying thought.

I remember that video and looking at it again, 14:00 i believe that point was a misunderstanding - he couldn’t see the point you were trying to make and disagreed wit u. I believe if someone else articulated it in a way he could grasp it, he could then agree. Basically having someone feed him the info needed in different words/expression/energy that he could absorb much easier. After all, everyone’s thought processes are different. This is why i believe in the importance of communication and articulation. Not saying Chris is wrong, even I’m slapping my head that Mike couldn’t understand Chris. Anyways Idek why i’m saying all this im lowkey trippin lol
@BeastmodeJones3162 ай бұрын
He clearly tried to use sensory neurons as an explanation for how motor neurons work. That’s on camera! He clearly didn’t understand the difference between an upper motor neuron and a lower motor neuron; for conscious movement. He clearly didn’t fully understand neuromechanics at the time. Hopefully, he knows better now. I actually have some more “false teachings” of his that I can point out as well. Easy money! 💯 📝📝

Quite frankly I think Mike under estimated your knowledge and started acting more nonchalant about what was being discussed. I hate to say it Chris bro, but I gotta keep it real. And it's probably a subconscious thing. You said if it ain't about the followers, then what is it. It's intimidation. It's your persona. They are scared of that raw authenticity and seeming lack of a filter. All i'm afraid compounded by the colour of your skin and the culture they associate with that colour. (In their eyes) Forget all this woke nonsense. I said it. It's a blend of everything above.
