I just love hearing stories told by old people. Some have been through a lot but don't really seem like it. What may seem like an old man who has problems walking might actually be an old soldier from WW2 who survived. I remember being 10 years old when my mothers grandpa told me about how he was a part of bombing Rotterdam to the ground. (Which he wasn't proud of even to his last breath). He was a Polish man forced in to the army by the Germans. When he was placed in North Norway he fled from the Germans in to Sweden where he met my mom's grandma. A woman my mom hated with all of her heart. That's why we didn't go to them that often when they still were alive. I took my chance when we actually did to ask them out.

I can only assume that you mean the Dutch Rotterdam. Now you can easily guess where I live and my family has lived for generations. Yup, my grandparents lived here during the bombing of at least an airport from what I heard. Though only one of four is still alive (not thriving either) and one was an immigrant from Indonesia.

People would obviously get upset when their love is judged and called unnatural and pointless. I understand why she holds these opinions given the time she lived in, but they are indeed offensive and close minded opinions and I doubt she'd hold them if she knew some gay people.

If you mean what i think you mean - the ackknowledging humming sound basically after each sentence - that's the way japanese people actually usually talk. It's more ... I don't know ... dynamic? It shows that you are actually paying attention to what is said, from time to time you go even farther by repeating/rephrasing what you've heard, or add in a 'tashikani' or 'so desu ne' or 'naruhodou' or something of the likes. And if you're not sure you understood you can quicky interject a question at these pauses. It took me some time to pick up that habit, and once back in europe it again took me some time to get rid of it again.

As a person who lost my grandmother 5 years ago now, it's nice to watch a video like this. The elderly have their own wisdom, and charm, and love they give to us younger generations. It was a shame because towards the end of her life, most of my family treated my grandmother like she was going senile and that she had dementia. But every time she spoke with me, she had a clarity and wisdom about her that really shone through. She always commanded my attention and gave me advice that stuck with me, and of course, she showered her family with lots of love and really made all of us feel loved, like our existences were definitely worthwhile.

Fun fact, to this day the Olympics got cancelled twice, Japan had the opportunity to host the Olympics twice, the first time was in 1945, which was the first year the Olympics got cancelled, and the second time was this year... Someone up there just really doesn't want Japan to host the Olympics

I really agree. I'm a lesbian, and her comment about being gay kinda hurt. A lot of people are saying that it doesn't matter because she's part of the older generation, but many LGBTQ+ people internalize homophobia, meaning they'll take people's words, and use them against themselves. I find this especially tends to be the case with those who are still in the closet.

When the grandma says those words about China, I do feel a little hurt. I like Japanese anime, music, and culture, I am even learning Japanese.But I love China more of course! I am studying in United States, I always remind myself that I am a Chinese, I should behave myself and always be kind and helpful to others so that I don't spoil the image of China, or even make it a tiny little bit better. For those who spoke ill of your own country and culture just to 'fit in', I feel really sorry and ashamed of you. You guys are helpless, if you don't respect your own country, no one will respect you, cos your country is always behind you.

I remember she was so upset u was doing a her medicines for her for safety and she just snapped and really turned very violent and angry but as she was very independent before up to about 92. I don't know if I would be doing as well. Right now she just repeats the same things every 2 mins but dementia has not kicked in fully. I worked in a hospital and had so many patients with dementia. It really is heart breaking. Please remember the awesome talks you had. I try to talk to my grandmother even if at times she can sound very cruel many times a day while I am able. I can agree about both the Chinese statements. China and the people there have been crappy over time. And, as a Chinese person, well... I'm kind of guilty as well XD At the places I've went to in China, the people have become very selfish. Almost no one gives a damn anymore to help someone out. My mother said that back in her days, people are willing to help carry bags, help people cross the street, donate money or supplies, etc. Now, people purposefully fall down or blame others for something they didn't do. If someone is genuinely hurt and can't get up or move, they'll call out that they have insurance or money to pay back.

Well you are a new generation. The negative thing about being in a new generation is that we have to carry the mistakes of our ancestors and sometimes get blamed for it but the positives about being in a new generation is that we don't have to hold onto anything negative of the past. Being different means that the new generation can set the tone of what we know is right and let go of old ways. *I am not Chinese but I thinks anyone from any cultural background should carry this way of thinking.
@agneshansson3687
@agneshansson3687 8 жыл бұрын
I think (and this is a huge generalization) that the reason a lot of Chinese people are selfish, is because many of you are single children. You don't have to share with a sibling, and your parents are very focused on you. This kind of upbringing would make anyone think that they are the center of the universe and that they 'deserve' to have everything they want. At the same time it is a huge burden and you have to live up to all of the expectations from your parents and grandparents, as well as the fact that you are expected to singlehandedly take care of your family once they get elderly.

Korea, China, Japan, and many other Asian countries have a complicated history. It's not something that can be simply explained, certainly not in a comment in youtube. Japan is a very popular country among many Western countries so I see some comments saying "Why are these Chinese people so triggered?" Or "Why do they disrespect Japan so much?" Unless you spent your life studying Asian culture, please don't comment those kind of words. Actually, a person that studied Asian culture won't even say those words. You'll encounter many Asians thinking very low of Japanese people. No one is at fault, and many innocent Japanese people are blamed because of what happened in the past. Joey, if you're reading this, I'm pretty sure you'll understand.

Learning languages is simple, that's why I believe it's easy (it just requires you to put in some time). People who learn the traditional way usually take 3 years to become decent in an ASIAN language being WESTERN. Once you get that learning a language isn't grammar exercises, but more reading and listening, or once you see that you can learn in 30 minutes more than you would learn in a 3hours class speaking with natives and sharing each other's culture, you would learn every single language in the world. But remember, even if the language looks waaaaaaayy different from your native language, is just as difficult to learn, lets say French. For japanese the only major issue is KANJI, but if you start reading simple dialogues, noticing the language, then you move on to harder dialogues, then more dialogues and then you start takling mangá, anime with subtitles (try animelon), tv programs, music, then meaningful conversations BLABLABLA. Till you get bored of it. It doesn't take too long. To start you just need 10min a day reading (6/7 week), then move to 20min and then 30min, don't read shit too hard and don't read stuff that's too easy :D On youtube you can find a bunch of polyglots teaching you good techniques to learn any language, and it doesn't take a shit load of time/day. I've learned English, Mandarin, Japanese and ITalian this way.

as a pansexual, i didn't mind that "the anime grandma" (ay) thought gay marriage was weird. as long you don't go bashing on them and sending hate I wouldn't mind. i understand it being weird, especially when you didn't grow up with this gay marriage thing so. :)

Not like she would need your permission to think anything, though. Even if she did grow up with "this gay marriage thing". Fucking "genderqueer" people thinking everyone needs their permission to breathe.

me too! I'm bi, and I can honestly understand why she thinks it's weird but all she said was that it was weird. I wouldn't really consider that offensive, she didn't say we can't be like that, she didn't say she didn't want gay marriage to be legal,, she just said it was weird.

you should be called "the brave man" showing her actually saying that it is weird for gays to marry. that is stuff that most youtubers would avoid by all means. i really liked this vid, just loves to listen to old japanese people. japanese old people are SUPER nice and cute, and there japanese are much easier to understand than young people, well only if they don't speak some ben like akita ben then you are screwed hahaha がっごさいぐべ あきた弁大好き!!

+renge miyauchi It's just hard for some people to understand that love can come in different forms, I guess. I get why people find it weird, my mom finds it weird but she lives basically by a "You do you, I'll do me" lifestyle now and accepts people as being different than her/her beliefs. I think that's what all people who aren't comfortable with it will just have to learn if they want to feel comfortable in today's society.
