Read what you're comfortable with. No genre is gender specific. I'm a woman and I'm rarely drawn to romance, though I'll pick it up every now and then if I wanna feel like a hopeless romantic. I'm into mysteries/thrillers, horror and fantasy. I know guys typically read more horror than females, but I don't care cause it's my bookshelves. Remember that, it's your bookshelf, nobody's but yours so put what you'd be happy with on your shelf ❤️❤️

@@LitVibesWithFivethis is great advice especially for your channel. I just joined Libby last month and I’m already mad at how much money I could’ve been saving all this time instead of buying every book especially when they’re not always 5 star reads. And it’s convenient cause you don’t always have to be driving to the library to return or get more books it’s all conveniently online!

I really like audiobooks. If I have a book I want to finish and it’s gotten a bit slow or if I’m having trouble starting a book audiobooks help me a lot! But I for sure can’t listen/focus if anyone else around 😆 The narrator can also make or break the experience and some narrartors can really emhamce the experience!

As someone who hated audio books but now has an audio story going alongside a physical book at all times, there some tips to enjoy it better. Don’t listen when you have to concentrate on something like work. Save it for doing chores, working out, anytime you can zone out. I love listening when I’m on a long drive. Choose the audiobook wisely, read reviews of the narrator because some books definitely have to be read. Recommendations for books that are better listened to. - where the crawdads sing - you made a fool of death with your beauty - good girls guide to murder and the sequels (it almost feels like you’re watching a TV show) - a lot of popular thrillers have great audio book production Hope you enjoy it because it’s a great way to read multiple books at once. P.S. definitely stick with ACOTAR till the second book 😊

Love your channel! You're breaking down a lot of bias through your videos, and that is really valuable :) Someone already recommended Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson buuuuut If you end up liking that one, his Stormlight Archive series is his magnum opus in my opinion. Just a warning, It's a massive series, 1000+ pages per book, but I highly highly recommend it! The first book is feels slow at the beginning because you have no idea what is going on, but everything is intentional and the ending is soooooo gooood! And the fifth book is coming out this December. Alsoooo, if I could convince you at all, the second book in the series, Words of Radiance, is the HIGHEST rated book on Goodreads with the most reviews (someone correct me if I am wrong) But anyways happy reading! can't wait to see what you read next

You should watch the black and white movie of the Portrait of Dorian Gray with Angela Lansbury. An excellent fantasy series that I’m reading is Keeper of The Lost Cities. Another book that will rock your world is The Housemaid and book two is The Housemaid’s Secret (there is a third book out, but I haven’t read it yet). The woman is tough. I think you will enjoy these books.

I love that you aren’t afraid to try different genres. Really the best way to know what you like is to try it. Idk if your library has hoopla or Libby but if they do you can get audio and ebooks for free to check out and sometimes you can use multiple libraries. For example I have the downtown library card for the capital of my state and my local library which is different library systems but it gives me access to a wider catalog. As always love your content !

I totally relate to the struggle with audiobooks! I have trouble with auditory processing, which means I struggle to focus on a specific conversation, or audio source (movies, audiobooks, youtube videos, etc) when I'm in a noisy environment or if my attention is divided. That's why I only listen to audiobooks when I can give it my undivided attention, like on road trips! For a very beginner-friendly fantasy series I recommend the Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson! You may find while looking it up that there are more than three books, but that's because there are two separate series that take place in the same world: The one I am talking about is sometimes referred to as "Era 1" and the other series is "Era 2". If you love Mistborn you will definitely open up a whole TREASURE TROVE of good fantasy though, because Sanderson is a much loved author with a lot of works under his belt!!

While I def need to have the wiki beside me, I really HIGHLY rec the Graphic Audio series of The Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson. It's an excellent EPIC fantasy novel and the voice actors for the Graphic Audio version are *chef's kiss*. But yeah, it's a lot of characters and concepts, so might need that, but least it'll keep you immersed. Also, thank you for learning about JK's transphobia and not supporting her specifically. I do hope you enjoy the rest of the series.

When you listen to an audiobook, you have to have the same focus as if you were reading a physical book. I started listening to audiobooks when I was recovering from a long illness. I had to spend so many hours in bed, the only form of reading I could do was listening to books. I also think that it uses a different type of concentration to listen to an audiobook. It might be something that you have to develop. I still listen to them and it's easier for me now that I've listened to so many.

Took me a while to get into audiobooks, but now I devour them. I have a lot more limitations on what Ill pick: 1. Good for nonfiction & bad for fantasy 2. Good for mass transit, bedtime troutine, exercise, "rinse and repeat" tasks & bad for anything involving decision making. Biggest tip i have is to increase the speed to 1.3. Harder to zone out when the plots banging along.

it took me a while to get into audiobooks as well, and i still am not crazy about them. it definitely depends on the narrator, and also not doing something that requires too much thought while listening. i recommend listening while doing stuff thats a little more automatic, like dishes, laundry etc! and again, not every narrator is going to click with you. some books i just fully prefer to read the words on paper

That’s a nice diverse spread of books in your TBR, glad to hear you listened to people when they discussed how problematic JK has become, that while the HP series was formative for many folks we try not to platform the author. But please don’t think of SJMs books as immersive fantasy books, no one is reading them for their worldbuilding (and yes I am a hater). I’d recommend Scott Lynch’s Lies of Locke Lamora, anything Brandon Sanderson but Elantris is a great standalone,To Shape A Dragon’s Breath by Moniquil Blackgoose, Legends and Lattes for some cozy fantasy, or Leviathan Wakes by James SA Corey for sci-fi.
