My K24 Turbo Civic and 2JZ 240SX Make Me Question JDM Builds

My Honda EG Hatch K24 turbo build has had very weird problems the past year. While on the dyno it acted more like a supercharger than a turbo powerband, and left us with scratching our heads. From thinking the Honda had a defective turbo to wastegate issues - we just simply couldn't figure it out. Finally today we find the main problem, along with a brief view of my 2JZ 240SX's wiring harness update. I can't wait to get these cars finally back on the road and show all of you what they really are all about - these have been the ultimate struggle. Thanks for watching!

Things will eventually come together, and we'll be here and waiting for it David. On a side note, while you wait for paint, why dont you try your hand at DIY vinyl wrapping the civic? Even if its a somewhat basic colour, I think itd look great and be great content too!! Keep it up man!!

The fire ring sits proud of the flange/v band because its ment to compress flush when bolted up (hence that gap and why the v band clamp didn't seem to fit) which in turn puts some pre tension in the wastegate valve (cant remember the reason why it's needed, response maybe) and help seal it. So if you got bigger v band clamp, its probably not seating the fire ring in properly (flush when clamped) so still has the potential for boost leak/exhaust leak under power. So just wanna make sure, with the fire ring in, the 2 surfaces (wastegate + manifold wastegate flange) mate up with no gaps like they would've before hand.

Yes exactly!! you can loosen the bolts on the wastegate hat to take some spring pressure off of the fire ring/seat, or just completely remove the wastegate hat which is what I did when I installed my wastegate.

Forgetting the fire ring is actually really common do not let people tell you otherwise. Any person who regularly boosts engines has done this even if only momentarily

its okay bro my Focus ST had a short in the engine harness and was causing all types of problems for 6 months. once i swapped that out my car ran immaculate again. electrical issues hurt more than mechanical

When I got my precision Wastegate it also was missing the fire ring and thankfully my tuner could tell something was off from the video i sent him of the first startup

Manifold needs to come off before the Wastegate gets installed. Either that or you have to figure out a way to “clamp” the Wastegate in since it’s spring loaded now

I’ve had the opposite experience but guess what my domestic build was from the early 90’s and had wiring issues and wasn’t well maintained or taken care of when I got it. vs my much newer Japanese car and the other JDM car I own that is from the same early 90’s was one owner and less than 10yrs old when I got it it was babied since new and continues to be now. so I just write up the bad experiences to starting with 💩📦’s. 🤷‍♂️

A big block turbo engine in a small hatch will be great fun, it will be all smiles soon when David's Civic is tearing up the streets.
