Thank you for your video. I too went through this process. Then my account was terminated (3) times. TERMINATED! But before that, two suspensions. I had been on KDP since 2014, starting with a non-fiction book that sold well and worked my way into low and medium content books from 2019 forward. The issue was with one low content journal that contained a copyrighted term: MLB (Major League Baseball) in the title of the book. A book that was published in 2019. I acknowledged my error. When it first came to my attention I immediately unpublished it and went through my catalog of 900 books to remove any and all that I felt had any issue potential. Moving forward I was very careful and thought all was well. A few months later, another suspension that was on a book that wasn't even in my catalog - not my book! These things were resolved, and again I started moving forward slowly. Long story short, for three years, each November - terminated account and me asking for a review and reinstatement. The third time - it didn't work and I'm off KDP. It's been about 9 months and I've shifted gears to other platforms, but because my books sold well internationally, and thousands lost, it hurts. I prayed throughout and asked for guidance - thy will be done. God is good, but sometimes we're knocking on the wrong door and have to be redirected. I was invested in KDP for a long time and tried my best to play by the rules. I've been considering asking them to consider reinstatement a fourth time, but that's my ego. I like what you said about being still. It truly does help. I often ask for God to help me to hear his words louder than my own. For now, I'm on Etsy, Barnes and Noble Press, and have started shifting to things other than books too. The biggest lesson I learned was to diversify and never again use just one platform. I wish you continued KDP success, and thank you for sharing your story. Best to you!

This really touched and moved me more so your faith I've been in such a super dark place because I've felt so defeated and like a failure in life since that is what's been spoken over me as a kid and now as a single mom of 2 little ones without adequate support other than our heavenly Father I've been trying to lean so much on Him because putting an end to my existence is not the answer and my 2 didn't ask to be here but I TRULY need a boast of support and guidance so whenever my time comes to go my kids are good and set. One platform that lets you self publish and sell you books on you own website, Amazon and other 3rd party marketplaces is Lulu. Your books take longer for POD (print on demand) like Amazon KDP. However, a way around this could be that you buy in bulk and package an process your orders 😉. Hope this helps someone.

You are so right. Taking accountability is not a skill that people are teaching their offspring nowadays. Mine have it because again it's a skill one must teach as the 1st teacher of the household. As a mother, it is not only my duty to teach this, but as a homeschooler its my right and privilege. I am grateful to be able to teach them things that not only matter to me, as their mother but things that will help them make the world a better place for us all to live in. Taking accountability for one's actions is hard to do sometimes, but it can make you a better person in certain moments. Being responsible for problems is not always a good move for people of color as we sometimes have to take on the blame of others with more privilege. Some are aware of this and exploit it. And others are not even sure it's happening.

I know exactly how you felt. I got my account suspended and after that I started to publish wide! I created my own website. Brought my own isbn and used other places to print my books. And instead of Amazon getting a large percentage I received my own payouts from my website and I used draft2digital to publish my ebook.

It's usually possible to review the website categories of books/materials that are similar to what we're about to list. If my listing doesn't relate to other materials that are already in the category, I take it as a potential sign that my listing needs to move to a different category. Hi Shanice, I love your spirit! I know you will hold it close always. My condolences for your loss of your grandmother. I lost my dad two years ago and totally related with your illustration of what you were going through in your loss. Absolutely, is He so able to turn negatives into positives. You are a very special person with your curage of taking responsibility and sharing your testimony. You've been very helpful. I'm just thinking about publishing my sermons I still have from the ten years of being a lead pastor. Unfortunately, it ended back in 2005 because my ex didn't want to be a pastor's wife anymore. With the general judgement by Christians believing that once divorced the Holy Spirit cannot use you any longer in ministry, I've been out of the ministry since 2005. But I kept all my sermons that God gave me. So, I'm at the "thinking about it" stage, as you put. And trying to educate myself with His guidance on how to do this calling and do it correctly. Thanks for sharing your experience! That is so helpful! I just bought your journal to remind Amazon that it deserves a spot on it's platform. I have been publishing on Amazon KDP since 2019 and I dread getting emails from them. I hate it when they flag a title that was previously approved but then say that there is an issue with the wording or something, which we can't change. It is harder than it sounds to comply with all of their guidelines, especially when their review team members and customer service agents sometimes give us conflicting answers. I admire that you take responsibility for your part. I try to do the same. Good luck with your publishing and other income streams!

The relationship between Amazon KDP and Creators with low content books is toxic. If they are biased against low content books, they should just state that upfront.

I recently published some journals. I feel like I may have also used self help for some but they make it REALLY HARD to know which categories to use. It almost seems cryptic. I feel like they should be more transparent, especially if I state a book is low-content… That alone should populate specific categories to use. Under their definitions, a low content book would never be considered self help, so why even allow it to be chosen?

I created a prayer journal and I received and email from Amazon saying that title could be misleading. This was what I wrote for the title “Prayer Journal: Tides of Gratitude | Ruled Lined Paper: A Prayer Journal for Teenager, Gift For Little Girls, Women”. Before I blink my eye, I couldn’t see my journal on the bookshelf but God know I won’t give up because He doesn’t give up on me. I reloaded it but just patiently waiting for the review. Shanice, in regards to Canva, I think many people have so many questions now. So many mixed answers but Canva actually has a KZbin page here and one of the representatives answered the questions in regards to using images and etc. like you said, I’m sticking to just creating words and we will just use everything that God has given us. I’m so sorry for the loss of your grandma. Comfort and strength always. Thank you for sharing your journey 😊

It is never a good feeling waking up to their emails - I pray it all works out in your favor! 💛 I did not know they have a channel, thanks for point that out, I will check for their updates. But yeah, by the grace of God our designs using text and simple shapes will be sufficient! It might also be fun 😂 I love seeing your journal updates on YT. It's misleading titles because it goes against their guidelines. Titles shouldn't describe what the book is used for ("gift for little girls"). Also there is repetition in words ("Prayer Journal" is written twice) that also goes against their guidelines, as it is considered keyword stuffing. Hope that helps and good luck!

Communicating with KDP is like speaking with someone who has no interest in you and probably doesn't speak English. An email from KDP is terrifying because you know the chance of replying to it and being read by someone who both cares and understands the problem is very low. This month they failed to pay me and getting an answer is... frustrating.

I feel you on this one. I had issues with payments due to there being some sort of flag on my bank account details. It took a while to sort it out but it was sorted eventually. Now I'm battling with them because they've closed my account 🤦🏾‍♀️

Yes! Money isn’t everything, in fact the “love-of-money”will make life SO Hard for (anyone). God will not honor that. You’re an angel and appreciate you, not holding back on where you put your faith. I always say: There are 2 teams. Just 2 . . . and we have to decide which one we’re on. There is no fence. If we don’t pick one, we put ourselves at great risk of the default (the side that isn’t God).

Mistakes can really lie in tiny details. I once had my account suspended the same way because a certain trademark of a tiny part of a font I used. You have to be really careful and if you do get suspended be extremely friendly in your response. Just being friendly plus some sympathy goes a long way.

Thank you for sharing! Your testimony reminds me of the book of Job. Job was blessed, but God allowed Satan to discourage him in order to prove Job's faithfulness to God and for God to prove it to Satan. In a way this initial discouragement from Amazon was like an attack on that blessing God bestowed to you, but you reacted in Faith, not fear and that is such a powerful testimony! It doesn't make any sense. Why would a KZbinr who is really making money on Amazon, giving you information that would make all their subscribers a competitor. It's a conflict of interest. They want more subs, but don't want more competition on Amazon... so why are they giving you information that would make you a competitor?

I have had problems with Amazon in general, never sold a thing, barely listed and they said I violated something and NEVER would they explain or tell me what and refused to consider an communication about it? Yeah, real BS for sure. They have then the guile to think I'll still be a customer and buy anything from them,lol. Yes there is other platforms out there! A note here, Amazon/KDP can and will in the end if they suspend or remove your account will KEEP all that money they made(or you made) . The legal premise is that until they totally remove your account and any products and thus revenues that generate from that they can and will keep, read the policy!!!!! Amazon doesn't play fair it would seem, and they are constantly 'angling' to keep revenue/payouts. This isn't just a 'personal' observation, it is true. Best advice, find another platform to market and sell on and NEVER, EVER deal with Amazon!!!!
