Boy I am happy I am not the only dad that insist that emergency gear and clothing is in the vehicles every winter. I have always made my wife and son & daughters have that stuff in the trunk. All of them always thought I was paranoid, but my youngest daughter got her car stuck while at school in upper Michigan 20 miles from the nearest town in a blizzard and -30 degree F ... she would not have survived had that stuff wasn't in the car. She was fine but cold and the troopers that found her said she would have frozen to death had that gear not been in the car. Cell phones are useless when there are no cell towers around. But the extra cloths and blankets kept her alive and well until morning.

My survival gear always melts...95° and 90% humidity 90% of the time here in South Florida.
@craigschofield643 жыл бұрын
@@KarenThompson-cg9lr well currently it is a balmy 12 degrees with the wind chill it is -7. We are also under a winter storm warning snow accumulation of 6-10 inches by tomorrow evening. Hopefully the wind doesn't pick up or it will get a lot colder. I live 6 blocks away from Lake Huron so and the winter winds get brutal. You can keep Florida...too many bugs, snakes, gators and in the summer it is just too blasted hot and sticky for me.... I am New Mexico/Arizona guy...lol

my dad and grandad put on a tractor loading dumptrucks when i was 7 or 8 years old, and never looked back, dad was killed in an accident when i was 11, and then by the time i turned 13, grandad said i needed my own dumptruck, but the catch was, he gave me two in various stages of dis repair, and said "you can build the one you want out of those two, when your done, its yours!" so at 13 i built my own dumptruck, and hauled dirt for 3 years with no drivers license...... highway patrol stopped me a few times, but never gave me any tickets.... times were different then. enjoy your outlook and channel very much, it passes through to your entire family! and i also share your affection for chocolate milk, i have been fighting throat cancer for the past year and can pretty much only drink chocolate milk without choking. its my main staple!!!!!! stay safe sir!!!!!!

I had to chuckle - when I was about 10 I was using a front end loader to put feed into our hog feeder. After completing that process I was driving the tractor and still had the bucket all the way up and somehow I ran one of the fork through the barn door just as my Dad rounded the corner to witness the whole act. He had been down in the field planting corn and I was taking care of the hogs....50 years later I watch my son trying to get his truck unstuck and using brute horsepower rather than finesse he caught traction ran over my smoker and park his truck through the side of the barn....History does repeat itself!!!

As long as you guys are looking at new equipment... have you considered a used Grader for snow removal? I know around here the local authorities put out snow removal contracts for the roads. Seems like the kinda thing that a guy with a mullet could tackle when he is not bailing hay. It can be really lucrative on those years where you get almost no snow. Old graders seem to be pretty affordable at the auction and with the cancellation of the XL pipeline contracts I bet there is cheap equipment to be had. Ask Cole to crunch some numbers. It may be surprising.

my dad is almost 86 yrs old, grew up on the farm but worked for GM for 47 yrs. We would get drifted in often during the winter so he would park his car 1 mile away on a highway to make sure he got to work each day. that meant he walked to his car in the dark in the morning and then the evening. He only missed work a few times over the year when we got blizzards that shut down everything. That farm ethic never leaves a person. I was raised that way (not on the farm though) and raised my kids that way. It's been a good thing.

Dear DC, I lived in Omaha until September last year, when I got burned out of my apartment and moved down to SC with one of my adult sons to start over. I had lived there the majority of 50+ years. Yes, I was running around in shorts and a T-shirt the other day, and watching the temps my 4 other adult kids would be dealing with, I think they said the high was going to be 1 degree. I don't miss the cold, but I have to tell you, everything down here bites lol. I rake the leaves, and get bug bit. I'm helping clear a few acres (not unlike Cole's farmhouse property), and get bug and thorn bit. I'd rather have the snow than getting bit up all the time lol. Great car safety rules btw, ALWAYS have extra gear in the car for just in case. It's better to have it and not need it than be like the poor guy from Cali. Great channel, keep up the good work. :)
