Imagine. Most people consider video games an escape from the mundane actions of their daily lives. But for a while, those same mundane things became Hbox's escape from video games. Because of how the community has treated him over years, and because the stress of becoming the best took place of his passion over the game, Hbox was really in that sort of limbo. After the crab, I was curious. Like you said, I wanted to know why someone would be that angry. So I started watching. And I kept watching. Your excitement, your love for the game, shows in every bit of content you make. You play how you want, and you may have become a bit of a heel, but when those Rests land, it is downright *electrifying.* You’re a joy to watch. And while I can’t say I’m glad someone threw a crab, I’m glad you got some time in the spotlight and a new mascot out of it. And I’m glad you took it in stride and got a crab plush. When I first heard that Melee still had an existing scene a few years ago, I first caught eyes on Hbox and saw that his character felt off-meta compared to many others. His patient playstyle was an interesting change of pace to me. I find out more about him through documentaries, and I admit witnessing the "ugly" of him but it was still nice to see someone stay dominant in the scene and right now tensions seem to cease. Nowadays, I see Hbox attempting to rise the support this community can get, and it looks like it's hard to dislike Hbox anymore because he loves this game as much as many others do, and with the spotlight he has, he wants to make the scene better. The Pound incident hasn't change my view on him, other than hoping he's okay and justice was served, and I will continue to support Hbox for what he's trying to do, while being good at his own thing.

This inspired me to continue and keep on going with this game, it showed me that you should still fight through the hate no matter what, thank you hbox, I really appreciate this video coming out!

Just wanna let you know that you’re the reason I really started taking smash seriously. I’m not winning any tournaments, but I always enjoyed smash but played very casually. I watched the Smash Bros documentary and held my own tournament in high school right after it came out for my birthday because of it. You were my favorite in that doc by far and I loved how you broke the meta in being a stand out puff in a sea of foxes. So thanks! You ignited my love for my favorite game

I wonder what the life of the crab was like

He probably died happy, for his corpse to be held in the hands of hbox, the feeling of his sweaty gamer hands gripping the crabs lifeless corpse as his final goodbye to the world is a true honorable death.

Lots of love and respect for you, Hungrybox! It's very clear the amount of work you put into Smash and the passion you play with. These kind of heartfelt videos also show your character behind the scenes. Even if I can't make it out to any tourneys, know that I'll always be cheering you on!

I know I'm some random. But I wanna say, I used to kinda be indifferent and had the toxic sport mindset about players in esports until the crab incident. I think it opened my eyes, and many others eyes that you're human too. Youre not some robot for out entertainment. You're a living breathing person who has dreams and aspirations. And I'm proud to say that now I'm a fan of you. I watch your streams while working my tech job etc. You're a great person. Despite what gets lobbed at you at tourneys

I don’t really know why it’s not like I’ve had really anything bad happened in my life I’ve led a really privileged, good life but the passion I feel you have for the same game I love just makes me so happy, thank you for not giving up, it really means a lot.

This Video is blessed. Seeing the Vod of the crab thing still pisses me off whenever I see it. And it also pisses me off that the guy is probably happy about what he did. But whatever. Toxic people are always gonna be around, but you’re not always going to have Hbox.

I think that crab incident was super good in the long run. I feel like people appreciate you much more now. Or at least I started paying attention to you more and I became a fan. That and people stopped shitting on you all the time, or at least they cut down on it

I love how you see the positives of that incident instead of seeing it as a pure negative. It shows a lot of maturity. I'm also glad that the community responded compassionately towards you, because you deserve all the success you have (and more).

You see a similar reaction often with memes, a bandwagon that goes too far and teeters on an edge. It takes one post, seeing one person against the bandwagon to give you a new view on the situation and jumping on the new bandwagon A funny but relevant example is Ugandan Knuckles. A massive meme for weeks on end, teetering on the edge of popularity. It only took someone reading a single post saying it was cringe to see it in a different way and call it cringe to. It honestly fucking was and we were all so caught up in the craze The hate bandwagon on you was teetering on the edge till that crab happened. People saw that and the support you were receiving and gained that new perspective instantly

I was in the crowd at Pound 2019 and it was absolutely amazing how the mood changed as soon as that crab was thrown. People went from slightly disappointed that Juan won over Mang0 to encouraging him and cheering him on and chanting for him. It was the most united I’ve ever seen the smash community be. I think people don’t realize what kind of effect their actions have on competitors so I’m glad that shift in mood kept going for you and spun into a positive thing! Always been a fan, glad to see you grow from it!

I started playing smash seriously because of you. I bought ultimate and spent literal days practicing jigglypuff because I wanted to play the way you did. The crab thing was crazy but it helped people see how hateful and awful people can be over just a game and it ironically helped the community a lot. I'm glad you're still kicking ass with our favorite pink puffball. Hopefully the community starts to respect its top players instead of demonizing them because of a playstyle. Keep up the incredible work and I can't wait to see how much the smash community as a whole continues to grow for years to come

You've always been one of my favorite Melee players since I joined Smash back in 2014-15. I thought it was kinda weird how much hate there was for ya, but I thought it felt good to often root for someone you despite the hate, especially when you'd win. Met ya a few times around summer 2016 and you're still one of the most personable top Smash players/personalities I've met. Just makes watching your success over the years seem even more well-deserved, imo. Despite the crab, I'm glad things have been turning out for the better over this past year. Wish ya the best, both at the top of Melee and rising the ranks in Ultimate too. -Quietgod
