You were absolutely correct in covering that large rocky area of the wall in the kitchen. You can make better use of it by covering it as you did. The sample of the stone that you left exposed above the door entrance is quite enough to see how the house was constructed. You are doing an extraordinary renovation. It’s such a warm and wonderful house. Enjoy in happiness and great health.

Julie, those sprouts around the base of the olive tree are called suckers and should be removed as they will take nutrients from the main tree. For your herb garden, you might want to look at a simple self-watering system, usually some kind of unglazed clay vessel that you bury in the planter and fill with water that will then leach water into the soil as it dries. Then when someone visits the house, they can leave alcohol in the liquor cabinet and water in the planter! The house is so lovely!

Love your curtain fabric choice (wide stripe). The chair should go somewhat with your sofa to tie in that teal blue colour (which is a very heavy & dark). Please add some warm coloured accents in cushions and accessories! Pops of muted red and/or orange would look great. It's going to look too cold and masculine otherwise.

Maybe the gold? Windows bring in sunshine so it would resemble sunshine plus be a pop of color. If there isn't too much blue in the kitchen other than couch and a row of tile, then the blue would be perfect.

I am an 81 yr old American follower. I have spent years doing D.Y.I. projects in several of my homes. About 30 yrs ago I started reupholstering old furniture that I collected from antique junk shops. One of the first chairs I did was similar to your chair. It also was stuffed with horse hair. One of my best friends established an upholstery shop and works for some of the top designers in our big city. If you won't be offended, let me make some comment about your chair. First, whoever put the pink fabric on your chair was not a professional upholsterer. If you just follow what that person did, your chair will not look that good. One of the secrets I learned is: you have to pull the fabric pieces extremely tight before you tack them down, otherwise the finished product will look loose and messy, and it needs much more padding inside. I suggest you find a local upholsterer and ask if they would let you watch them do a job or two and give you some suggestions. Also, you need some proper tools, like a tack hammer and a tack pull (which would have saved your hands when you pulled all those tacks). BTW: they don't use tacks anymore, but staples. However, its fine to use tacks if you want to do an old-fashioned job. Keep up the good work, Julie! Your ambition is commendable!

@Julie in Italy You asked for suggestions for what to put in the fireplace hole in the living area. I would suggest some sort of cupboard or chest of drawers and/or book shelves. Lovely though the room is, you don't seem to have storage space for things like family games (maybe you don't play board games etc) and books, or for storing some extra bedding for the sofa bed (yes you have your laundry room but if the bed is in use for a number of nights will whoever want to keep running the bedding up and down stairs each day?) also people staying on the sofa bed might like to store their belongings somewhere.
