I decided to design my own SMERSH web gear using surplus kit. Smersh web gear was originally designed for Russian Special Forces.

Your on the right track. Move the cup, tablets, and lighters to the canteen you'll drink last. Swap your pants and your poncho. I'd recommend getting the canteen cup stove to replace the stove you have. Make a stripped mre keep that in the buttpack along with those comfort items. Finally, "YOU NEED A BETTER IFAK. " ditch the saw pouch get 2 more mag pouches and make one an ifak and keep your TQ were is easily seen and grabbed. There is more but that should get you started. I get it you don't know what you don't know and when you don't know, obvious things are easily missed. Keep it up. you're on the right track

This is more or less what was standard issue in the US Army in the 1980's. Lots of advantage to this set up. If your a big guy you could double up on ammo pouches or canteens. I ran this set up with 4 mag pouches, 4 canteens and chicom chest rig. The chest rig allowed a last ditch fighting load if you had to dump your main load out for E&E.
@NorthwestScout

I like your suggestions very much! I was thinking somewhat along those lines so I picked up a woodland micro chest rig from ACETAC. I just haven’t tried it all together. I was thinking of wearing my homemade Smersh setup with my winter camo and chest rig next week. I think both would work well together. Thanks for your tips!

I love it. After seeing this, and a Reddit thread I've gotta come up with some M81 LBE. The reddit thread the guy used a Camelbak Mule as a base, had a chest rig and belt all in one. Going to combing this and that.

Ref the tourniquet, it’s for stopping catastrophic bleeds, ie over a pressure point (femoral or brachial artery), not for holing dressings in place. A pressure bandage, like an Israeli dressing (which you need to add), is what you use for adding pressure at the site of an injury.
@NorthwestScout
@NorthwestScout 10 ай бұрын
Ok that’s great advice. I do have one of the Israeli dressings. I’ve taken a couple first aid courses over the years, but I lack the knowledge on specific application for certain types of bandages. I appreciate you taking the time to clarify, thank you.

I like your kit M81 is super cool stuff and it's definitely not going away anytime soon. I did a similar setup with the same harness you used I really like that grenade pouch medkit you built that's a good idea. I went with 4 mags on each hip and it's really comfortable to wear over a mostly slick plate carrier if need be which allows to plus up an extra three mags plus a dangler for goodies. Granted loading down with that much ammo and armor is in a very different kinda application but the point is H gear is pretty bad ass and highly versatile
@NorthwestScout

Thanks for sharing your load out! It’s nice that there is lots of M81 out there so a guy can modify to his taste. The idea of using a slick plate carrier was along my line of thinking as well. I’ve got one in Ranger Green that could be put on over my BDU or underneath it. Have a great day brother!

@@NorthwestScout yeah of course I always like seeing what other people do and getting ideas and seeing different ways of doing things. It is definitely nice to be able to integrate armor or leave it out if need be. I forgot to mention that I also attached a small sposn smersh bag to the molle on the back of the rig, I got the idea from a picture I saw of some Russian in smersh it doesn't allow for a ruck to be worn but it can easily be removed, maybe not for everyone but I thought I might mention that as well. Great video. I’m running a chest rig and an ALICE belt with a few M16 mag pouches. My chest rig is minimal and my belt is load bearing. You gave me some good ideas. One note on the rifle. Add some back up sights and get a better optic that is budget friendly too. Holosun HS515GM, Eotech 512, Meprolight RDS Pro V2, Holosun AEMS Core or standard version, Primary Arms 1x prism, Primary Arms MD-25. A lot of great options for $200-$400 that would serve you better than the one on the rifle now. I think that is a sight mark. Great video! I’m subscribing.

4 mags pinned to 5 not enough, put that cup with one of your canteens save the space, your IFAK isn’t comprehensive enough you need to add a second chest seal. Your rain gear is good however chances of you needing both are slim. Overall good rig definitely needs some work
@NorthwestScout
@NorthwestScout 10 ай бұрын
I hold to an escape and evade mindset and my philosophy is ‘less is more’ thus relying on my life of learned skill sets and ‘out of the box’ thinking. I have no team Militia to back me up and I stated the chest seal was an example. I’ve lived through 14 lung collapses and if I got to put a chest seal on because of bullet then I was ‘not thinking’. As for canteens, and this comes to thinking differently, it’s a noise factor. A canteen in a wet metal cup causes a slight vacuum effect and can cause the canteen to ‘stick’ in. As for Gortex gear, I use the pants constantly come October when wet slushy snow hits. My kit evolves constantly per season and I stated clearly it was a work in progress. I checked out your 82 Pattern Web load out. I understand your points, but I think it comes down to personal taste and one’s comfort levels in the outdoors. Just my opinion. Take care.
