WHO said the jumper is ugly? That's a lie! Also the yellow and light brown bags in the background make for a really nice frame. I always enjoy your camera work. Edit: Maybe you could talk a bit about how to care for your clothes to make them last. Like not putting them in the dryer (which is a waste of energy anyway), not washing them more often than necessary, turning them inside out for washing, etc.

I've changed lifestyle since I've started watching your channel, including clothing. I find it difficult to never buy anything new (I have a lot of clothes from years and years of hording), and that's also why I've stopped going to the mall, but it's changed my mindset as well: I don't need new clothes to feel nice. It's one of the best lessons Ive learned from this transition. Thank you for your videos, they've really helped changing me and the impact I have on the world.

I LOVE what you said about being mindful of thrifting and not doing it because it's trendy, but using it to be supplemental! Consider the people who really do rely on it so that pricing isn't increased so much so that they can't afford it anymore. So glad someone is saying it - especially since this wasn't something I would have thought of a few months ago. Loved the video :)

For me I believe that the greatest turning point with clothes is gonna be when more and more of us return the value to our garments that they deserve. We under value clothing, we under value how much time, care, thought and skill it takes to build clothing. That under valuing means we aren’t willing to pay for or keep our clothes. Making clothing from scratch has been for me one of the deepest ways to connect to the value of clothing. I love clothing, I love the way it tells stories about art, creativity, need and place. When clothing truly becomes everything it is required to be the value of it is immeasurable and it remains with us so we consume less and love more. Those are some of my thoughts on fast fashion, value and such, I could talk on and on about textiles and clothing. 😆 Also yes! The stretch is plastic and one of the biggest problems with synthetic fibres is they do not wear gracefully. Stretchy jeans will eventual stretch out and become no longer desirable.

Thank-you for this awesome comment, everything you mentioned is 100% spot on!!!!! I, too, make clothing for myself and my partner. I am a high school sewing teacher, and I love having the opportunity to teach sewing, and also educate students about clothing and textiles, and the value of having hands-on life skills (such as sewing). I think it is important to educate and inspire people to be resourceful and to make things... because we should, as a society, discourage this practice of going out and constantly buying more stuff!! (Oops, I’m getting fired up here). I, too, could talk on about this subject, but I won’t because you already said it all in your fantastic comment. Thank-you for your comment, it brought joy to my day. If I knew you, I would say let’s have a coffee sometime so we can continue this conversation (when this isolation this is all over with)... haha. Greetings to you from 🇨🇦 .

On the jeans, stretch jeans are usually made from a mix of cotton and either spandex or other stretchy materials at a 1-10% range (at least that's what I've found). Those stretchy things are synthetic, yes, but the quality and feel also come from how the cotton is processed and such. Also a lot of fast fashion jeans are often either bleached (for full cotton as synthetic materials deteriorate in bleach), sand blown, or thinned out with sandpaper with the help of manual labor, and stone washed, to give the appeal of worn jeans. Hence why they rip and get holes faster. Simply put; they suck

Those bags you have aren't my style, but I think the design (and fact they're from recycled material) is so cool! I think it's awesome that you put effort towards a sustainable wardrobe and try to get the most use out of an item. The shorts you thrifted were so cute and flattering, too! Reminds me that I have a pair of shorts I thrifted and have yet to alter ahah when my classes are done I have much to do. I'm glad you're inspiring others to think more about their wardrobes! I'm continually wanting to downsize and create a wardrobe where the pieces mostly coordinate and the items have better longevity. This inspires me to work towards that more!

Thank you for doing this series! Sustainable fashion is an intriguing subject, I have recently been doing research on “certified B corporations”. Which (from what I have found on the subject so far) is a second party verification in the USA and Canada that the company is in fact ethical or sustainable to a certain level and they get a score. So it is something that backs up sustainability claims. Worth a look if you are looking at (generally larger) North American brands ! :) Another amazing video Immy! Thanks!

When I think of my favourite pieces of clothing that I have worn and loved over the years... my faves were never trendy, stylish, chic, or stunning. My faves just happened to be an outer extension of who I am (hopefully)... comfy, kind (to the environment and to all), confident, and maybe just a little bit cool? Great video Immy, very refreshing!! PS- quick opinion from a high school sewing teacher here... those Grunbag designs are uber-amazing... unique, functional, and the complete definition of upcycling. Love your videos, Immy! The thing I would love to see from my Eco-KZbinrs is a video about sustainable fashion for true plus sized individuals. I am aware that some companies go up to a size XXL, but in reality that isn’t very plus sized. I’m just always so sad when sustainable brands don’t include (just like the normal fashion industry) True plus sized options. We care about the environment too!! I know Shelbi has mentioned a few and I’ve been able to support companies like Girlfriend. Sorry for the rant, it’s a pet peeve of mine. Haha not directed toward you AT ALL!! I have a few things that I purchased when I was in my teens that I STILL have and wear. My favorite top is a black, see through top with bat wings that I purchased from a shop called rainbow. That store sells pretty much crap clothes that fall apart with in a month but this top is amazing. I’ve mended it a few times but it’s kept so well. I never cared about fashion as long as it’s black I’ll wear it. That top is now officially 24ish years old? Apparently gothy fashion never goes out of style 😉😉😉

Some interesting facts about denim. If jeans are stretchy they often do have an elastic fabric mixed in with the cotton. However assuming the denim does not have a stretch or any elastic mix to it an indicator of quality denim is it's softness. The higher quality the denim generally the high quality the cotton that they are made of was thus the softer the material is. 😁

I’m not against having a fast-fashion brand in closets but I have noticed I can’t buy from some brands I used to. I have a topshop tee that’s been with me 10 years now but if I were to buy a similar piece from the same brand (and same price!?😳) I can guarantee you it wouldn’t be as good quality, I’ve been in their stores and seen how thin their cotton is to the point it’s see through, and I’m talking about dark colours, not whites. I think reducing your consumption overall is the best fashion choice and on the same level would be borrowing or swapping clothes :). I try to buy ethically but when I can’t afford it like when I need a coat or waterproof to keep me warm if my old one has ripped or bust, at least make sure you have a guarantee on your clothes that are supposed to be functional like waterproofs or insulated jackets or if they’re simply a cotton tshirt, learn how to repair it, even if it was a £10 uniqlo tee. My favourite tees are now just ‘vintage’ looking 😂. The one thing I do have to replace a lot is shoes though, as I wear them out a lot :/, I’ve finally found a pair that’s lasting me a couple of years and strangely they were just a pair of £40 new look boots. They’ve lasted longer than my old doc martens that kept bursting open until they were irreparable.

LOVED this video ✌🏻💕 I really like to think the amount of times you wear an item hopefully outweighs if its fast fashion? 90% of my wardrobe is thrifted and I have ONE proud pair of sustainable shoes (but SO pricey I could cry lol) otherwise my FAV jumper is from Topshop 6 years ago and my fav top is from Zara but I have worn it over 100 times (no joke it washes so well and is a miracle top ha!) So balances out I hope?! BIG HUGS Immy 🌿🌍❤ x

Thanks for mentioning the need not to ‘overthrift’ because of all those who rely on thrift stores for affordable clothing. I also understand you wanting to remove that logo from your jumper, I hate logos too. Having said that, the one reason that I probably wouldn’t buy Grunbag is because of the aggressive branding. I do understand their need to market their product but it is so dominant that it would put me off. I do admire the company though.

Thank you for saying that about not just thfirting because it's cool! So many people can easily afford ethical brands buy thrifterd items and other people who can't afford ethical miss out on thrifters items. 😓

1st! By accident! Fashion revolution week is great! Thanks for the vid and inspiration to make clothes "last longer"! I wear 1 H&M blouse for ~12 years now. And it still suits my style astonishingly, since I baught it in the hights of my puberty. Long story short: It outlived its fast fashion timing, so I guess it's a win ;) edit: Despite Covid, it's great fpr mental health to make some effort when putting on clothes! So even "just at home" let's all wear something nice for our stability!

12 years is amazing for H&M! I have a jumper from there that I've been wearing constantly for maybe 5 to 6 years, had to fix it a few times but hope it will last me a bit longer

The geometric jumper is awesome! Ignore the other opinions about it ;) (but it seems like you already do, great). Totally agree with the things you said about the fast fashion items. I myself don't buy fast fashion first hand anymore for quite some time now, but I still own some pieces from before that, and it is rebelling against the fast fashion bussiness to just keep on wearing and loving it much much longer than the industry intented you to do. Even just using it as homewear you're still getting use out of it. And like you, if the quality is still decent en it will last me, I don't mind buying a fast fashion item second hand sometimes. Curious to the other videos you will be making in the fashion revolution week :)

I only buy from fast fashion if I can’t find a better option and most importantly they have a good modern slavery policy. I look for information on their supply chain, photos of factories, info on how they audit supplies (on paper only or do they actually go out and check). There aren’t any sustainable plus size fashion brands that I know of so I have to thrift and research the plus size stores in the UK. The other thing I do is plan to thrift when I go to the US to visit because they have Larger thrift stores and larger sizes. I got my fave clothes abroad. Obviously I wouldn’t go on a plane just to shop though, it was only because I needed to go anyway.

Hello! American Apparel states that their products are ethically made and sweatshop-free. I do know that the company went bankrupt in 2015 and 2016, and was purchased by Canadian company Gildan Activewear in 2017.

Hi Immy! I love your content! I was actually looking for advice. My family already has some issues with me being vegan and generally “weird”, so I don’t want to alienate them even further by asking them not to give me gifts anymore (also, they would think I’m joking and ignore me). Do you have any tips for a more sustainable, minimalist birthday/Christmas?
