Answer to Why Alot of older locos were tender driven. It was so Hornby back in the 60s- 90s wouldn't have to make custom steam engine motor bodies for the loco bodies, As they say, One size fits all
@pennsy67553 ай бұрын
It wasn’t Hornby neither. Several of US manufacturers did it as well to this day. Especially common on brass HO models

Funny thing about Reading 2019 it was rebuilt one of the Reading T-1 4-8-4 Northerns during WW2 and one T-Hog which the Reading crews called them has been restored to running condition Reading 2102 and there is a 2nd one 2100 being restored to running condition and has the honor of pulling the American Freedom Train in 2026 for the US’s 150th birthday as sister engine 2101 pulled the American Freedom Train in 1976 alongside Southern Pacific 4-8-4 GS-4 Daylight 4449 and Texas & Pacific 2-10-4 Texas 610.

32:59 i believe I may be wrong here, but i'm pretty sure that's a reading T1 before they convert them into a 4-8-4
@dangerboyproductions12233 ай бұрын
34:01 yes your are correct however the 2-8-0 would later be rebuilt to 4-8-4 northerns for more heavy freight operations however none of 2-8-0s survive but the t1s (which is the 4-8-4) were preserved 4 of them to be exact

1. You’re layout looked great. A lot better then mine. I hadn’t gotten to doing the scenery, and it takes up a lot of space in my little bed room, despite it being N scale (I personally think I was a bit too ambitious when designing it with my dad). 2. Some of those models are absolutely gorgeous. Especially the British ones. Excellent video man.

Beware those that read this, it's a long one: Tri-ang Railways era models: 1. 47406 is indeed a LMS 3F 'Jinty'. 2. D5572 was originally built as the BR Class 30/2, before becoming a Class BR 31/1 with the TOPS number of 31154. It lasted up til 2006, when it was scrapped in Rotherham. 37310 is a BR Class 37, which you are correct. It's pre-TOPS number was D6830 and it was rebuilt into a Class 37/5 in 1986 (Its number becoming 37681). It was scrapped in 1995. The LMS 4P tank engine that you have was built in 1927 at Derby works, the second built of the Fowler 4Ps. It had a service life of 35 years before it was withdrawn and scrapped. For some reason, I felt that something was off about the LMS maroon liveried 5MT (Black Five) that you have and... it turns out that its one of two things: 1. It is wearing the works number for LMS No. 5114 (BR No. 45114) as LMS built started their numbers at 4758 and end at 5499. 2. Hornby misprint the number and was meant to be LMS No. 4765 (BR No. 44765). Oh cool. I have that Hornby Railroad range of the LMS Patriot class as well, but mine is number 5532 'Illustrious'.

30:17 I can answer quite a bit about this one! First of all, the design is in fact a USRA 0-6-0 switcher. The reason why this design seems to be so unanimous is because it’s pretty much an American WW1 equivalent to a British Railways Standard design (like Murdoch for those of you who aren’t familiar). Essentially during WW1 the US grouped all the railroads together to form one temporary giant rail network with a bunch of standard designs including the 0-6-0s. Of course the Usra was also horrifically bad for quite a few railroads but that’s a whole different discussion. The DRGW was a Colorado and Utah based railroad that at first was almost entirely narrow gauge (in fact early on the D&RG and Ffestiniog Railway owners were good friends hence why for a short stint the D&RG had a double fairlie) although it mostly converted to standard gauge between 1880s-1910s. Over 100 miles of the former narrow gauge are operated by the Cumbress and Toltec Railroad and the Durango and Silverton. DRGW #65 is a fictional what if the DRGW got one of these as the last DRGW 0-6-0 on the roster was #62 (which looks nothing like it). Interestingly enough the drgw never got any Usra standards until after the war when they ordered copies. (Also none of these were rebuilt into moguls or prairies Bachman are just lazy) Also it’s pronounced Rio Grand. Also also respectfully it looks nothing like sierra #3, sorry.

Also the engine after that one is one of the ones the Reading rebuilt into 4-8-4s one of which (2102) is currently running kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZPUZHd-gdCCmpIsi=a2B446N-VC5gJrOH . These were essentially the strongest class of 2-8-0s to my knowledge. The consolidation country wide started out as a strong mainline engine during the early 1900s but as mikados (2-8-2), mountains (4-8-2), decapods (2-10-0) northerns (4-8-4), and articulates came onto the scene they quickly filled moreso a roll akin to branchline/local service with a lot of them ending up as switchers before the end of steam.
