My Mom is Moving Hospitals While in Coma

This is all new to me. My mom is in coma and requires specialized care with her breathing from COPD and on a ventilator. Abigail is getting a referral for an MRI and a neurologist and/or neurosurgeon to determine if she has a chiari malformation that is causing her to have severe headaches and pass out. We now know that my mother has chiari malformation and it is associated with EDS, and is genetic.

This is standard care. You don't know that until you get there, but never ever ever let a hospital case manager or administrator bully you into discharge if you or your loved one is clearly NOT ready for it! It is just a way for them to save money. My mom and dad worked all their life and have paid for insurance and when you get to the hospital, because insurance will only pay so much - they get rid of you, coma - ventilator - get out, money is more important. You do not know what you do not know, but you will easily fall victim to the "she can't stay here, she has to go" bs if you don't know your rights. They are complete bullies.

I agree@@FoolyLiving my grandma had an aneurysm last year and fell into a coma the hospital she was staying in was doing the bare minimum to keep her alive. She had so many marks on her chest from staff walking in and pinching her to see if the would wake up. my mom was there everyday after seeing the bruises and bedsores untill my grandma took her last breath. I can totally relate ❤

As far as the MRI goes, if Abigail has issues with the tight machine...see if there's an upright MRI anywhere nearby. Absolute game-changer.

I'm so sorry Andrea. I had to deal with this a little over 2 1/2 years ago with my father. He had dementia. He was moved from the hospital to a care facility. Ugh. There is so much involved, and it gets so frustrating. Continued prayers for your mom, family, and sweet Abigail. I'm also praying for God to give you strength to endure this difficult time. I am so sorry this is happening to you and I agree a hospital is the worst place for anyone to be. I've seen it with my own eyes. Let us not forget the nursing homes where they tell you your loved one will receive physical therapy. Meanwhile, if you are private pay, you pay upwards of $7,500 for the worst care humanly possible. No one cares, the facilities know when the "State" is coming in and they make everything look fabulous at that time. It is just shameful!
