Now this is tempting to buy, I have a soft spot for 5-cylinder Volvos. Always loved those, used to do regular maintenance on them in mechanics class in high school. Things are indestructible. Wife would probably hate me getting another car though 😂 I’ve ran out of room.

had one of these N/A s60s for 4 ish years... I think these are super underrated vehicles. they don't rust out, decently reliable and very safe for the time period, and the design has aged a lot better than most sedans of the era. IMO this was one of the last old school "utilitarian" cars volvo made before they went upmarket and started making overcomplicated, disposable vehicles. Huge plus for this one is the lack of a sunroof, as the drains are known to clog and flood the footwells.

Imo as someone who’s owned 4 p2 01-04 s60 T5s the NA sounds the best too. They have enough power as a nice commuter but are definitely by no means fast, but with minor exhaust work they sound almost identical to a v10 and imo even better than the turbo models.
@clover7359

18:58 Fuel cutoff is 6900 rpm for the NA engine, but trust me, nobody is home past 6500 so you really want to shift by then.

My mom had a first gen xc90. Rode to school in that. Fun features in it like the built in booster seat. Turbo I5. My mom let me shift the transmission in the passenger seat. Solid car. Cars from the early 2000s are just great. Maybe it’s nostalgia but I think that generation of automobile is my favorite.

Nice! I had a 2002 S-60T Auto (Black on Tan). It actually was a great ! Pricey to maintain, but it never let me down. One of the safest cars out there, plus those seats...I could do1 0 hr trips. That open cubby in the center of the dash used to drive me crazy so I bought the optional factory cupholder that goes in there. The only complaint I ever had was the turning radius was horrible... Drove it to 105k and sole it for a decent chuck on change. Enjoy and hope it goes to a nice home!

I love that this car was configured with a naturally aspirated engine and a manual transmission. It should provide many, many more miles of motoring. (Bonus of that era: no infotainment BS!!!). Well, I'm still driving my 2002 s80. It's faster (solid acceleration) and has the twin-turbo inline 6. The look is pretty similar overall. The car is well screwed together. The P2 Volvos were nice and still there are some around. My car has 177750 or so miles on it now. It' my daily commuter to work, 15 miles there and back. I'll hang on to it maybe 2 more years if nothing major goes wrong. Engine and transmission are great so it's, like Topher says, replace worn suspension parts, some sensors, I had to replace a window regulator and a fuel point. But my console instrument panel works fine, no problems so far. Cosmetiacally, my car isn't as clean. The passenger seat is ripped and my console armrest vinyl is torn. But overall, the interior is pretty clean.

I have this but a V70, same engine and transmission but the last model year they made it, model year 2007/8, believe it or not. They called it a "Classic" trim line. Little souped up with the R instrument cluster (but grey instead of blue), no plastic cladding (all body painted) etc. It has not been this mildly driven, it has been used a lot and the suspension isn't the tightest. I'll just replace things when I have to, but for me it is a beater car. The engine and transmission are bullet proof, as long as you service it. The rest is a little hit or miss and I'll take care of it when problems arise. I'll probably just drive it until it gives out which'll probably be another 5 years or so, then I'll switch to electric. The normal ICE cars available today are not my thing, boring turbo i4:s, I'd rather have an electric at that point.

Almost literally my Volvo-Same exterior color, but a 2001 auto with charcoal interior (an even less common color combo, seemingly). She's nearing 308K miles, and I had her for over 11 years, now (as of commenting). Named her after Jody Summer from F-Zero. These naturally-aspirated, 5-cylinder Volvos are criminally underrated. 🦾

Ah yes, the heated seat bit. I always find it interesting when people mention that a car this new has heated seats, because i grew up with Volvo's as well, and knowing that they've had heated seats since the 70's, i'm more surprised it's not standard on every car by now. I don't remember the last time i saw a Volvo from 1990 and onwards that does not have heated seats, and my dads 850 R also has the rear heated seats, because if heated seats = good, then more heated seats = more good😂

1:00 kindly advice from european driver, use handbrake when your car is on neutral to avoid unpleasant suprises🙂. Its nice to use it even when you park with automatic transmission as stress put on handbrake is better than on gearbox and it is easier to switch driving mode from park later.

The clutch on these old P2 volvos are suprisingly strong. I bought an old S80 from 1999 that had roughly 31k KM on it. had to tow it since the brakes didnt work. Only thing was that the clutch couldnt disengage FULLY for some reason. However we didnt notice that. So after about 8km of towing we finally made it home, opened the hood, and holy shit there was clutch smoke everywhere. We believed the first new thing we needed was a clutch. However its still holding up after another 3,5k km since we got it, INCLUDING several hundred burnouts. Just had to rev a bit and dump the clutch and it would spin pretty good on the road, also the same engine as this one, 2.4l 140hp.
