Roots and Refuge Farm

Roots and Refuge Farm

Күн бұрын

The church yard sale where my mom will have a table selling plants is at
First Christian Church of Sherwood
2803 E Kiehl Ave, Sherwood, AR 72120
7am-1pm Saturday June 3. (If rain, will be rescheduled to June 10)
Hey ya'll, I'm Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm
Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you'll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.
There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart - to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we've learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you're here.

Oh my goodness...this had me in tears this morning. Your mom and her garden reminds me SO much of my own, whom I lost suddenly in Sept of 2021. She used to call it, "puttering in the garden", or what I called deadheading, and tending to the potted plants. I have several of her old plants some of which are almost 50 years old. Thank you for this video, I felt like my Mom was right here with me. What a magical way to start my day.

Your mom & the salt shaker in the tomato pot was hilarious….made even funnier when she she added “it overwintered in here!! 😂🤣. Makes one wonder, as good as she is at making old plants “new” , if she can make that salt shaker reproduce itself? So funny 😍. She’s a true garden wizard…& had to be a huge inspiration to you growing up ❤

I cared for a lady who was in upper 90s.She had a philadandrian plant she got at her husband's funeral 30 some years ago.Her hubby and my dad were school buddies..played ball together.I got a start off it and it's doing great.I think it's amazing how a plant can bring memories of people gone so long ago.

Fun fact, oxalis is edible! There are a few different types, the tuberosa variety makes a a larger root like a tuber that is edible and some countries grow it for that reason. The leaves, stems and flowers of the smaller varieties (often called wood sorrel) are usually consumed and they have a tangy sweet taste. I imagine they would go well in a cup of tea! I haven’t harvested enough yet to try it though.

Squirrels are the bane of my existence. They eat every single peach, apple and persimmon that grow on our young trees. They also dig up my freshly planted seeds. 😡 And I don't know about Arkansas squirrels but these Georgia squirrels will eat spicy peppers. I've come out to peppers half eaten, strewn all over the yard. Jalapeños, pablano, lemon and even habanero. They are relentless. (And also too fast for my 12 year old shadow pup to catch. She tries a dozen times a day though lol) Mama's container garden looks amazing! I've been branching off into that direction a lil more every year because, I ain't getting no younger lol. Wishing y'all both abundance this summer. Much love!

We had a friend in Chicago who had a squirrel in their nut tree. He would trap it and take it 5 miles away, and it would be back a few days later. He knew it was the same squirrel because he spray painted the tail with red paint. He had to take it 15 miles away. lol, love ya, Patty

Love to see Mom's garden. Seeing her container garden is wonderful and very different from your planted gardens. You show a variety of ways to grow on your channel. One of the best things is hearing Mom talk about her garden and what she's growing. She has the same kind of excitement as you do when you talk about yours. The excitement is infectious and a definite motivator for all of us watching. Thanks to both of you for my daily dose of garden motivation. BTW, your Mom is so sweet.
