There is a difference that many don't seem to respect or understand. Similar to how Italian Food is not the same as Italian American Food. Chinese food in China is not the same as Chinese food in America. The list goes on and on. I had to learn this the hard way. I got to go to Italy in college and I didn't like the food. I'm used to Italian American food.

I remember going to Ireland with my husband for our honeymoon and when we asked our Air BnB hosts for good places to eat local & the first thing they asked is:"where are you from?" And we responded "Puerto Rico." Pascal (our host, God bless him) rapidly made a "Ugh" gesture and said : "Well you're not going to like the food here! It's all very bland!!! Just meat and potatoes! Your food is so flavorful. You're from the Caribbean!" My husband and I bursted out laughing but dammit, he was right! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Ireland is such a beautiful place, with such great people. I loved it!!! And we will never forget our hosts, Margaret and Pascal. 💚 Would definitely love to visit again, but nothing compares to our food. And I'm guessing this is what mama Mai means, other cultures's food tends to be more flavorful. 😆

I’ve noticed how black culture, African culture, Asian culture, and Hispanic culture are so similar. Notice how Jeanie Mai describe the baked beans. First of all those were just plan pork and beans out the can. Lol! That’s what it looked liked. But when she described the baked beans she liked, it sounds exactly how black people in the south prepares them. Dark rich color, more caramelized and sweet. Exactly how we do it in the south.
