I am needing this recipe to work its magic, so I can tell my wonderful neighbor that I appreciate his help. I like to add some carrots and some frozen green peas to the broth….but this is the way my Mom made dumplings and I have always made them the same. All seven of my children loved it when I made chicken and dumplings. My daddy, who was born in 1918 in southern Illinois, always wanted the dark meat of the chicken. He said the same as you…the breast was always dry and did not have the same good flavor as the thighs, legs, and backs… and I agree. Hope your Mon had a super Mother’s Day! She did raise a thoughtful son who is also a wonderful cook!

My goodness just like my mom’s only difference is once she cut the dumplings she would put them out on a cotton tee towel and let dry for about 30 minutes or so before putting in the boiling stock , looks amazing wish my mom was still here your so blessed and so is she for having an amazing son , thank you for your share

My mama made hers this way. We raised our own chicks and she would butcher a hen off the yard and u know how rich that broth would be. Only difference is she would allow the broth to cool and use that in her flour instead of milk and add a raw egg to that before mixing, using no spoon and use a rolling pen. And she always used self rising flour. They did not stick together and were as thin as a sheet of paper. I can never get mine to turb out like hers She was always requested to make them at family gatherings or church dinners. And those hens we raised were so good.
