Thank you for such a great video channel. In respect, I want to suggest that the one sheath does not have two belt loops; instead, it has one belt loop and a front flap that you can place over the top of the knife handle to secure the knife in the sheath for parachuting and other high-movement activities. Just loosen the cord and the flap should fit over the knife handle, which might totally cover the handle. Hope this information helps.

Believe me, Fallkniven A1 Pro is the best. Specially for batoning. Rust resistant, perfect convex blade, thick spine, japanese perfect laminated cos steel. Super great edge retention and easy to sharpen. I enjoy it and believe me, I know your taste, you will love it too.

One of my fav knives for batoning is my Rodent 9 which I pair off with my Ratmandu, and when I go more compact I like my Rodent 7 which I pair off with my Rodent 4, I had a Rodent 6 Customized for even a lighter set but I had it thinned down yet having enough robust feature of the Rodent 6 and I had the top gaurd taken off and now it look's like a beefy Ratmandu on steriods which I paired off with the Rodent Solution every knife except my Rodent Solution have similar grinds and are th Saber Vex Grind the Solution has a Convex Grind, these are my go to wood processing knives

I sometimes baton with Mora. I think its plastic handle is rugged enough to sustain its tang in its right position against a pretty hard impact. Thanks.
I would suggest you get 1 of the moras in a stainless steel version. if you want something a little more heavy duty I would suggest the ka bar marine fighting knife
@paulie4x19 жыл бұрын
Say Heah Doc, I thought I'd give you a heads up. in the month of March 2016, their featuring a new knife called the Attitude, I had mine thinned down to 5/32nd and a High Scandi Grind with White Bone Handle with a Blue Liner. Just thought you didn't hear about the special, I think it's a very nice looking knife with a palm swell handle and a Pappilon (Butterfly) Pommel.

I love that knife in the leather sheath. A2 steel is tough as heck but I'm a tried and true D2 guy. D2 with a convex edge is in my observation a perfect steel in terms of edge retention and toughness.
@vagabond45763 жыл бұрын
D2 is only good with a good heat treatment but A2 and other premiums beat D2 with good treatment. That is why D2 is a mid level steel.

Mora. They have 2 thickness, 2.5mm and 3.2mm. They have two steels, carbon and 12C27. Their plastic sheaths are made pretty rugged and practical. 2.5mm versions seem to have 22 degree angle while 3.2mm versions seem to have 28 degree angle. I love my 2.5mm thick 12C27 Bushcraft and Companinon. 12C27 bends but doesn't chip. 22 degrees is super sharp to anything to cut. 28 degrees is too large to cut wood. I cannot understand why they increased their famous small angle recently. Thanks.

In case one loop was torn up. The rear loop is stitched to the body of the Molle Back while the front loop is tied to the body with a lanyard. It is a fail-safe system. Thanks.

I didn't know that. It makes perfect sense. Thank you.

S30V and its brother steels are very hard and can chip against batoning. Batoning edges should take rolls before chips. VG-10, 12C27, N690 in SS, 1095, O1,A2 in carbon would be better because they roll before chip. Cheap steels like AUS8 will take rolls and chips at the same time and won't make a good batoning edge. The worst steel is 8Cr13Mov in my experience. It will make only a paper cutting edge. Thanks.

As a "Home Bushcrafter", have you tried a Froe to split wood rather than knife? A froe would be too heavy and bulky for hiking, but would be vey effective for home use.

No. I think such a small stove needs thin and short wood to make small fire just to make a cup of soup or coffee. The reguglar Firebox grills fish and does various cookings even better than real large campfire. And the Nano should be much more difficult to keep fire in because thin wood burns out soon. We will need to feed twigs from next to next. Thanks.

Bark River Bravo1.5 in A2. The lower half of the logo is disappearing because of my 1500 paper polishing to diminish the scratches which took place when I washed off the resin of pine using 3M fabric sponge. Never use the 3M fabric to the blade. Thanks.
@paulie4x19 жыл бұрын
I have to differ with you on one point I think a relief edge to me is a much better geometry for splitting wood when batoning therefore my fav is a Saber Vex Grind, I find on a Convex Grind the relief edge is too low, but too high and you create a wood drag like when using a Full Flat Grind, when when you Vex it it's simply too low and that makes the spine it's relief edge creating too much wood drag.

Have you ever looked into the DLT kydex sheaths Bark River knives? Or do you just prefer the leather sheaths? I live in southern Louisiana so lots of wet areas, reason why I went with 3V steel on my Bravo 1.25 and the kydex sheaths from DLT are really great especially for the price.

Hello Sir. I am new to your channel and I enjoy all your videos. I am pretty sure that someone of your experience is above this already but I was wondering if you could recommend a decent bushcraft knife for under $50. Being that $50 is the only budget I could spent on knives.

I have many pieces of 6mm thick Japanese hatchet in various grinds. I am used to 6mm blades. I think 1/4 inch thick American blades are too heavy for the length. 5mm is too thin to baton a thick log in my opinion. Bravo's thickness happens to be my favorite 6mm and I love it. Kyley, the maker of cKc knives will not have 6mm steel for now. But he will need to have it again because I think 6mm is the best thickness for a medium size survival knife. Thanks.

Hey, great video! Cantonese or Mandarin? I'm a Sigung, and Sifu in Wing Chun to a select few. If you're going to do what I refer to as "Modern Bushcraft", which includes preparing for a "sh*t-hit-the-fan" scenario, so therefore my bushcraft includes urban settings(which obviously yours does as well) for training, which, includes possibly attack at any time.
