Emily i seriously love how genuine you are, i can tell you are telling the truth and not doing sponsored videos like a lot of other youtubers do! we have so many favorites in common! I can't believe how much i love that elf complexion brush!! and the small stipple brush is amazing too! Also you got me into the sonia kashuk eyeshadow brushes and i can't thank you enough! i was so close to buying another mac 219 so i didn't have to keep washing it and going back to another eyeshadow brush but omg this one works just as good!! I need to try that walmart one, it looks amazing! love you!!

I must say this: I love your videos. Not only do you SAY that you appreciate us watching them, you actually DO appreciate! I can feel it every time I watch one of your videos. You really are so sweet and down to earth, because even if you are a guru here you still understand the importance of your viewers. There is no one like you here on the KZbin. I personally watch all of your videos even when you review products that I can't even get where I live (Italy), because I just like watching your videos, they are so well thought and edited and incredibly informative and you are so kind and lovely and very smart too, because you always tell the truth and I've seen you reviewing products that everyone on the KZbin says we should buy and instead you always pointed out the cons because you truly want to help us! I have finished here, I just want to add that you look stunning in this video ❤

I thought the elf brushes would get more of a shoutout. I looove the elf eyeshadow brushes. Wash them a thousand time and they still stay put. Amazing quality even compared to my more exspensive brushes. I use the small stipple for foundation, blush, bronzer and highlight. It is amazing

Most all of my brushes are elf XD Exceeeept one that came in a set that I dunno the brand of, it was just a cheapy thing, one that is actually a paintbrush, and one that from the dollar store but is surprisingly wonderful. Has never shed on me.

Blending brushes are my staple; I cannot live without them! I use them to blend out my eyeshadow, to lightly dust a shadow all over the lid, to apply concealer, and to dust some powder under my eye. BH cosmetics and Coastal Scents has a lot of really affordable ones too!!! Loved the video! Makes me want to place an order on Sigma! haha

Thanks Emily for the review on your favorite brushes. I only started using different brushes about 2 years ago. I used to only use whatever applicator came with a shadow or blush, etc...but they really changed my life...okay, but they didn't change my life! But they did make applying make up easier. As you age, you just have to play with different ones and figure out which work best for you and your eye shape. Once you get a solid technique down, you're golden. I suppose that's why I really enjoy watching tutorial type vids. You're young and have great eyes...just made for shadow, but it's a tad more challenging when you have agin eyes and or hooded eyes.

I bought the Walmart angled brush just before they changed it and I love it. The hair density, size and softness is just right for applying and blending any cheek products. I haven't tried the new version (in silver packaging) but a lot of people are saying it isn't as dense as it used to be or as good anymore. I'm curious to try it, but I'm glad that I at least got mine before it was updated.

I also use a larger shadow brush for under eye. IT Cosmetics Luxe set.(the chrome looking set in the acrylic case that used to be on QVC) has a pretty large shadow brush in it that I find completely inmpractical for my eye lids! AND I HAVE SOME EYELIDS NOW!!lol.....But Ive found it gets right under my eye to set VERY well.

I've said this before, but I really do enjoy your videos Emily. Your makeup looks great. You have such a lovely "pregnancy glow".
@tracyhatcher15938 жыл бұрын
Emily, I so enjoy your videos! How I wish you were around in the early to mid eighties! I was in high school then and our best tips were from Teen magazine. Mom would periodically take me to have makeup done for the "natural look" but in the era of Pat Benatar and Stevie Nicks, I gravitated toward less natural looks. I loved blue and purple eyeshadows and then I discovered browns...my small hazel eyes popped and I noticed the greens and golds for the first time. Between the crazy eye shadows and striped blush we all looked a little silly by today's standards.I didn't wear much makeup once I married in 1985. I had my first child and was home much of the time until he was 11 and my daughter was 6. They are 30 and 25 now(my youngest has a son and both are expecting sons in the next 6 weeks so I am grandma to 3). I will be 50 tomorrow. I have had a love/hate relationship with cosmetics as of late due to eye cancer (I am cancer free 6 years), hooded eyes and celiac disease which makes eating and anything worn on the skin difficult. I can wear some drugstore brands and Ulta store brand. So I try to stick with those with a small budget. I have been supporting my husband for the last 4 years as he awaits disability. I work in the Human Service field with individuals with developmental disability so when I visit in the home I try to look polished but not overly so. Simple for me includes Garnier moisturizer and eye roller ball, revlon foundation, concealer (lots of it, I have lots of darkness around my eyes. We thought allergies, dehydration but as it turns out it is indicative of the extent to which I have celiac disease and until my numbers are in the "normal" range, it will be that way-- that said it is better than it was but not as it should be) and powder to start. I highlight and contour with two different shades of wet and wild bronzer. I have the Ulta Hello Gorgeous Palette and I use the lightest blush from that, it is a pale peachy pink. I 3 colors of eye shadow, a light beige in the inner corner (sometimes the lightest bronzer) then sunset by ulta on the lid and a darker brown from the Hello Gorgeous Palette. I use Maybelline Rocket Volume mascara and rarely use a liner on the eyes, mainly because it doesn't stay and I can't get it straight. I tried a liquid liner and used 3 purple shades and I didn't have time to get it off and put on my normal before a guardianship matter in court so I had to go as is and felt very silly Lip I use either a spice or nude liner and some form of nude lip. Not terribly adventurous. I use a brush for each item and wash them daily. I am concerned about all that washing wearing on them but I am concerned about breakout. I have always used the fairest shades until I realized that I am not as pale as I thought I was and am using light medium now. The days I work from home, I cut the Ulta light medium bb or cc (I can't remember and am too lazy to go look) with moisturizer, use the concealer above (mostly for SPF if I take out the trash or get the mail) mascara, and a nude lip for moisture. Maybe if I am adventurous a little bronzer. My issues are with brushes, I am concerned about the wear and tear on them. They are drugstore brushes, some are wet and wild from the dollar tree and I have some from elf that started losing bristles on the first use. i wash after every use and sometimes they are not dry before I need them again. How often should I be washing them and how many and of what type should i have for the simple application I mention above. Also I remember as a teen mom telling me to change my mascara quarterly and everything else annually. What are the "rules" about how long to keep makeup? I know this is long winded and I apologize. I would also love to be able to know that the products I am using are for sure safe for me and that I am not overdoing at 50. Less is more. Thank you in advance and I appreciate all your work on your videos. You inspire me to try new things even if they don't work for me. I am tempted to try falsies but am afraid that they would end up on my lap in a meeting. I am already drawing in my eyebrows which are sparse due to aging and the radiation that was inserted behind my eye to treat the eye cancer. (a side note, aside from reading glasses my vision is perfect--the MD said I would lose 50% on the table and the rest would be gone by 10 years. I was his youngest patient and at the time there were few my age dealing with this. It seems this cancer comes from being around the water with the reflection, being fair skinned and light eyed. The cancer is from the melanoma family.) My lashes have always been short but are somewhat sparse too, likely from the same cause. Thank you for all you do and for the time in advance for my questions. Tracy from North Carolina

Emily, Have you tried Real Techniques silicone liner brush yet? I love that there's no worries about rogue bristles messing up your liner because it's just one piece of silicone. It makes a nice, fine line but can make a wider line if you use the side of it. The product goes on amazingly and it's so easy to clean. I love mine! If you haven't tried it, I really recommend that you do.

I cannot say enough good things about the Sonia Kashuk small eyeshadow brush. I have smallish slightly hooded eyes, and it is the only brush I have found that works for application in the outer corner of my eyes. So far my favorite brush set has been the ones from BH cosmetics. The set is called the "pop art brush set." They are colorful, super soft and have multiple uses. Only complaint was the they smelled of paint REALLY bad at first. But after washing them, and leaving the case it came with to air out, I haven't had any problems with these brushes. Coastalscents and ELF are also great brush makers that are very affordable. That's how I've slowly but surely built up my brush collection. Oh, another tip to remove the smell from the case of the BH brushes is to add a sprinkle of baking soda to help neutralize the smell of paint. Hope that this helps :-)

After I bought all the Sigma brushes I wanted, I started branching out to other companies and was equally impressed with certain brushes from certain lines, sort of like you. I have some Smashbox, ELF, Bare Minerals, Real Techniques, and an amazing brand called Mineralza, as well as an amazing brush from the makeup line, Senna, and others, etc. But then I decided it was time to try buying unknown labels and see if I could find comparable dupes to Sigma. I found a Japanese company on ebay called "BuyInCoins" and they sell makeup brushes that are dupes to Sigma. They sell an F80 Flat Top Kabuki that looks identical to Sigma's but it's not quite as stiff and dense so I use it as a mineral foundation brush and it works beautifully. The greatest thing is that I paid .99cts for it and it's pretty amazing as a foundation brush. I also tried others in their line of off brands and found amazing #217, #229, #239, etc., all of which are Sigma dupes. They're amazing brushes for .99cts. The best part is that you can purchase several of them and have them for backup on days your name brands are dirty or you need to travel and need extra comparable brushes around. It makes practical, economic sense from a buyer's standpoint and you'll get the same results. Like I said though, the F80 dupe is more soft and shouldn't be necessarily used for applying liquid foundation unless you use a very light wispy touch. You just have to type in "BuyInCoins" on ebay to find the store. They have five star, top seller, ratings and shipping is always free. It takes some time to get your order from Japan but I recommend a look through their makeup brushes because if I can find them valuable, then they're good brushes. They come in all kinds, from taklon to goat hair.
