Fantastic work on this - I never thought a copper hatchet would hold up so well! Beautiful dimpling on the faces too, really holds the patina well

Another great one! At first I wondered how the copper didn't deform? But then I remembered that copper WORK HARDENS! so as you formed the cutting edge with the hammer you were actually hardening the copper. very cool!

But it can also become brittle when it's work hardened too much.

Just the right amount of copper used for pouring. Was afraid part of it would be missing. Really nice result.

A neat project. You should make another one but add tim to make it bronze. This way you'll have a truly functional ax.

That's a lovely showpiece Black Beard. I would've added some aluminum to the copper so you would have something that can keep an edge.

Another great video man. A little advice, It looked like your crucible was sticking a bit to the fire brick. Put a piece of cardboard under the crucible it will keep it from sticking to the fire brick.

I was wondering the same thing 🤔. Aluminum bronze is one of the stronger bronze alloys.

While the hatchet is gorgeous, I would say it cut the wood, more like sharply bludgeoned it into pieces

We have the technology to make the best steel ever to make the best cutting blades the world has ever seen and you pull out 3 thousand year old technology 😂 It is a gorgeous hatchet though and I have a few junk motors laying around and I think i found myself a new project. Been wanting something else to hang on the walls and a matching pair would look beautiful.

If you wrap a 25/30 meters of chain around that anvil you will reduce half of that noise believe me it makes a massive difference 😉

Untreated copper is toxic. They usually tin it to make it usable for kitchen stuff.

10% aluminium would have made it Aluminium bronze. Good hardness. Looks like gold(ish).

Three thousand years ago, people found out that copper in its pure form was not a material for making tools that require durability. That was why we had the Bronze Age. You may find that out sooner or later too!
