But man, those girls start with WAIST LENGTH relaxed hair. Cut off all the relaxer and before you know it, waist length natural 😩 I'm convinced that the growth cycle (look it up) has something to do with it fr 😕

totally agree. I've been natural all my life. I stopped straightening and cut off my heat damage and it grew really quickly and stopped at the exact same length! it's genetics to a certain extent.

ernncole I do believe genetics have a lot to do with it. however I have had waist length hair my whole life with no relaxer. in my early thirties I cut my hair off and I will go natural in the summer and relax it in the winter. but I must say my hair now that I'm in my late forties grow more when it's relaxed then when it's natural.
@ThePrettiestCommenter8 жыл бұрын
Kim Howell It doesn't grow more when you're relaxed, lol, you just retain more length when you have a relaxer. That means that you've learned how to care for your relaxed hair better than you do when you have a few months of new growth (understandably lol)! It's awesome that you've learned how to care for your hair. You go girl.

It's crazy because I cut off at least 4 inches of hair back in august and my hair is almost back to that length. I'm probably 2 inches away. I feel like our hair is probably like "Oh crap, we lost some, quick we have to get back to where we were, let's speed this growth up" and once it grows back our hair is like "phew, okay we can stop working hard again. Let's slow this growth down a bit since we're caught up now." Lol

My hair is tailbone length. The key points to growing hair and retaining length is low manipulation, moisturizing and sealing the ends every night and protective styling. Make sure that you are cleansing your hair weekly and are using a satin cap or a pillowcase every night before going to bed.

That’s literally what every natural says and it does absolutely nothing for me !!
@C3cE948 жыл бұрын
It is definitely because of you manipulating your hair sooooo much! A lot of naturals have this issue of not seeing growth because they don't protective style and have the "Hands in hair" syndrome if you just leave your hair alone it will retain length. Because curly hair is sooo dry every time you touch your hair it's going to break regardless of how gentle you are. So I would recommend protective styling for a whole week or two then do your normal wash and moisturize routine and repeat the protective styling process again. This should definitely work because it worked extremely well for me. Hope this helps ladies. 😉

I've been bothering my hair everyday this week. I know it was not good to do. I did it because I wanted to wear my natural hair out and every style I put in it wouldn't last more than a day or two. then I realize I needed gel that holds. now I've used it on my hair and trying to maintain my coil out for a week or two. my hair is only 2-3 inches long. I think the key is to keep hands out your head honestly. do more styles that last longer with little to no maintenance. it should start to grow out more.

I completely understand your frustration! The issue could be with how well you're maintaining your ends. They're the oldest part of your hair and therefore need the most attention. If your ends are split and damaged they'll break off and the growth you do attain won't be seen. If you're able to, maybe it would help to see a natural hair stylist who can assess your hair and provide feedback. I do agree that scalp stimulation is also key to the growth part. Giving a break from manipulation will probably also help. I'm sure you'll start to see some improvement. I'm going to be following to see how it goes. You can do it!!
@whamitsjam8 жыл бұрын
Drinking more water, mini twists and moisturising your ends every other night, keep your hair off your clothes, try not to touch your hair more than once a week, finger detangle gently rather than combing. I'm 3 years post-perm and at BSL. I did the above for the first two years and my hair grew a lot soooo quickly. Then I stopped and my hair hasn't grown much in the last year (in comparison) so now I'm going back to what I used to do. Warm water, shea butter, coconut oil and olive oil for the hair and castor oil for the scalp are the only things you'll need. Natural products make the hair so much healthier. You're not alone girl! There are loads of us trying to get past this hiatus lol

What I have noticed is that when I compare my growth to others, it appears that my hair isn't growing. Shrinkage is real. I think the best thing you can do for your hair is leave it alone and stop styling so much. Me personally I don't do protective styles. I touch my hair as little as possible. I think growth has a lot to do with genetics as well no matter how much or how little water you drink. Days that I don't go anywhere I wear a satin dorag all day so there's the protective style. lol I do struggle playing with my curls because its something new, and after the product has fully sat in, you cannot help but to touch your hair. lol.

P.S. The advice I just shared I have used on myself since 2014 and have gotten my hair from the frozen state of collar bone area where my hair was stuck for 3years all because of my Bantu knots that I re-did 3 x's a week. In 2014 I started using the bum as my protective style, deep conditioning every time I washed, finger detangling, drinking lots of H2O😏(that was so hard), keeping my hand out of my head. I did a length check 5/2016 and I was at a healthy 360 degrees below bra strap and my a** is old, I'm 46. I put it back up and check it 7/2016 and I am 7" from waist length. It works I promise.
@RakiyasRoots8 жыл бұрын
I leave in my bantu knots and have seen growth, have you tried that?
@christine1962ful8 жыл бұрын
just to clarify, doing your banking knots 3x a week slowed your length retention and switching to buns increased your length retention? Did you change the positioning of the bun and what was your regimen? tia
@foreword698 жыл бұрын
+Rakiya Hamilton I apologize for not clarifying, the Bantu knots were not the problem at all. The problem was my detangling them 3x's a week was too much for my hair and was breaking my ends off. I still were Bantu knots but I stretch the style for 5 to 7 days and I only detangle with a slippery conditioner at the end of the 5 to 7 days before washing my hair.
@foreword698 жыл бұрын
+christine1962ful yes when I would wear my old Bantu style, I was manipulating my hair way too much. My current Bantu knots routine has completely changed and I don't wear as an everyday style as I did in the past. Know my bun takes on many duties, I change my bun from high to mid head, to low. I do not comb nor finger detangle my bun until wash day but the day before wash day I put conditioner on my bun slick it up and go about my day ( most times I get lazy and it stays in the "conditioner bun" for 2to3 days). My buns are never tight and I only use edge control for special occasions( edges too nappy it doesn't work for me😂). Night bun routine take scrunchy and bobby pins out mist hair put silk and oil on my hand starting with my end I apply twist up put on scarf and go to bed. In the morning with my hand I form bun and pin up and go.

So there's hope for ME too 😊 Thank YOU.
@ortem0008 жыл бұрын
:-) You don't need to do that each night. You don't need to do ANYTHING each night. Any way you cut it, it is over manipulation. Message your scalp with your fingertips (not some vibrating do-hickie-thingy) every 3 days. Fluff and go in the morning more, twist at night less. Just give your hair and scalp time to chill in general and you might see a difference. Peace.
@AllAboutAliciaa8 жыл бұрын
You're not alone on this. I eat pretty good on the most part but my hair has stayed at the same collar length state for two years now. I must admit I do see a difference from when I had a twa to now but I want to see an increase of growth from this stage of my hair journey. I protective style a lot and I also like to wear my hair out a lot as well. Maybe I need to protective style a whole year (which is something that is hard for me to do) to see a difference in my hair growth.

+smokey kool-aid are you stretching your hair? my twist out kind of looks the same UNTIL I put my hair into one ponytail and band it all the way down with hair bands. When I take the ponytail down the next day (or hours later) that is when the magic happens. But If it's humid outside my hair will shrink back up and the length will be gone again 🙄😒
@avasd598 жыл бұрын
Kenesha Bolton You can still use hair elastics to band your hair down. You can use one and continue to go down the hair with that one elastic, or you can use multiple elastics without bringing them down. There's lots of tutorials on KZbin. You can pin your twists across the back/sides of your head with a Bobby pin. You can also braid the hair or let the hair dry before you actually style/set it. And after you've unraveled your twists you can twist it up at night with a light oil, without using water or water based products so that the hair doesn't revert back.
@avasd598 жыл бұрын
smokey kool-aid lol. I was only giving multiple options. Putting your hair in ponytails and banding or pinning your twists is THE easiest way. That's literally all I do now. I don't retwist or remoisturize during the week. Banding keeps the hair together and minimizes the frizzing at night and in the morning my hair is fully stretched and all I have to do is shake and go
@mirrors878 жыл бұрын
YES, detangeling your hair every night and twisting it, can reduce your growth massively at the ends. Not all hair can take the manipulations of being twisted out often, and detangeling it every night seems like excessive overmanipulation to me.

You hit the nail on the head. You have to drink lots of water, eat semi healthy😊, NO SUPPLEMENTS, protective styles ( you can take your afro to a puff without a brush or comb and stretch that afro a week with no manipulation, anything that you have to do every night to your hair except wrapping it up will BREAK your end off. Afro are so so beautiful but if you wear an Afro everyday but are combing it out every night that is one of your major setbacks, set that afro and stretch that look for 2-3 days, mist your hair daily. Never detangle your hair when it is dry, alway mist with water and use your oils and cream before finger detangling, you have absolutely beautiful hair and I am sure that if you change just those few thing you will see retention, retention, retention. Thank you so much for sharing, this is going to help so many of us😊✌️

I have to braid my hair every night cuz my hair gets so tangled and so dry. But my hair wasn't growing that much last year because I would braid my hair every night but I wouldn't use water to moisturize so my hair was still dry and breaking off. I decided to start using a spritz bottle and Jamaican black castor oil which really helps my hair. I also do apple cider vinegar rinses which I literally see growth a week after I do them. I think for every natural your routine is different and you have to do what's best for you. Some naturals can do a braid out and won't have to re-braid for an entire week. My hair don't quite work like that and that's fine. You can't base your hair routine off of someone else's.

same here but I've learned it's a matter of individuals. everyone's hair grows differently and at different speeds with different necessities....try not to compare as often but to continue with your healthy regimen ( trims, shampoos, conditioners,deep conditioners, oils &WATER) she's right tho diet DOES matter. if you know of Aloe Vera (a whole leaf is like 2 dollars and makes TONS of Aloe gel & ONIONS grow your hair extremely fast ( blended added to shampoo & cured for 15 days)

+Bella Swinson youre totally right. i mean i dont compare my hair it was more like a realization lol. And i think itd kind of my fault, during my 1year up to early of my 2years (this year), i was just not doing much to maintain, strengthen etc my hair. I didnt have a hair regime and neither did i really give my hair a trim. I was just "stuck" with my hair but after taking off my braids like a month ago, i reallized how much my hair grew(thats where it looked like a 1year hair) before that my hair was soo kinky and short. Now im dedicated to mosturizing my hair with jamaican castro oil and wild growth oil and i'll start doing all the "natrual hair treatments" to it. I had 2years on july.

I know how yu feel. I would watch all these videos of girls getting to waist length at three years. but everybody hair is different. I have 4c , fine. high density. last summer I wore my natural hair out, and I was constantly wearing my hair out. doing afros, buns, EVERYTHING to see what my hair can do. I realized my fine strands did not like it because my ends were on the floor. for school I wore wigs and told myself that I would wear my hair out in the summer. and my hair grew out. I've realized the more I leave my hair alone in protective style the better it is. OH and diet. diet plays a huge part. I've heard about the onion thing. people said it works because onions have sulfur but i never got myself to do it yet. if yu got a good smelling conditioner the smell will go away. also I heard people would crush prenatal vitamins in their shampoo also and it helped.

I dc when needed, trim twice a year when it's straight, and I make/use/buy things that I use for my body, my hair or my food. Aside from meat, if you can eat it, it usually has dual purpose. Focus on low manipulation. Rock mini twist a few days, style twists differently a few days, rock a curly fluffy twist out, high puff, low sleek bun or side bun. Pre-Poo, Detangle, Wash, DC, LOC or LCO(my favoriate) Style and then Repeat. In between styles refresh with water and aloe juice mix and seal with light oil. Doing this and drinking plenty of water did it for me.

Also no matter when I stretch my hair, it never lays flat. I have these tiny little curls that cover all my head like a fine halo of Curls. Does anyone else experience that? I thought this would disappear as my two grew out but 7rrs later and no change.

Tip: your hair is growing. Afro textured hair grows out (wide) first, then down. Keep doing what you're doing and you will see the length soon. Patience....is key. Stay blessed.

I FEEL YOU GIRL! I've been natural for 2 1/2 years and I always wonder the same thing... But I stopped stressing over it, b/c every one's hair is different, plus I still get compliments from family members and complete strangers. It could be genetics and/or all of the above (eating habits, hairstyles, techniques, etc.). And I'm also on a new journey with my new routine. FINGER DETANGLING!!! LESS MANIPULATION!!! PROTECTIVE STYLES!!! I noticed a major difference when I stepped away from all combs (wide-tooth combs and denman brushes). I will stay tuned in to see your journey b/c I feel the same pain that you feel.

Hi Bria, Thank you for sharing your personal experience in this great video! Like you I have been natural for the last 3 years and I have watched family as well as friends get their big chops after me. Yet, their hair is longer and looks much healthier than mine. I had tried everything and with seeing no results, I gave up and moved on to trying something new. A few weeks ago I decided that I would begin a weekly routine for my daughters and myself. After watching your video, you have given me that extra encouragement I needed to stick to my new routine as well as eat healthier and drink more water. Hopefully, my hair as well as my daughters hair will grow longer, thicker and healthier. I am also hoping that living healthier will decrease my stress levels, too. So, thank you so much for the encouragement and I will stick with you throughout your experience!!! 😄😄😄 RaNell

This entire video is me. I'll take that challenge. My hair is in cornrows right now and has been for a month. So I've got the protective style in check for now. Need more water. Need a trim. Need better deep conditioner routines. Could eat better. I'm with you girl. I'm trying to have my collar bone length natural hair touching my shoulder blades by my birthday in December.

I'm so happy to see I'm not the only one. I went natural in 2010. didn't quite know what to do with it so it broke off. it's grown back okay but now I'm stuck at the same length. down to my nose in the front and right above collar bone length in the back. it's been this long for a couple years now and it is sooo frustrating.

I'm literally experiencing the same thing, and out hair is kinda the same length as yours so ill be following your tips ad watching your videos, I've already started doing the protective styles all summer

I went natural 3 years exactly. I chopped off to 1/2 in to start and am currently at 11-12 inches. Drinking lots of water, trimming ends, protein ( lots of egg whites) , and oil blends really help. Washing at least 2x per week but no less than one. Shrinkage is another thing!

Hey Bria, I know this was a year ago, but first know I love the material you present. Secondly, I know that everyone's journey is different, but the tips I learned from my nurse has really helped me in my journey. Brands like tgin, as I am, and design essentials have been my go tos mostly because they are thick and super moisturizing. Through trial and era of course you'll find out what you need for yourself. Doing my styles once a week or every 2 weeks has also helped me and most definitely my pocket lol. Mostly because it really allows the products to really release themselves into the strands and scalp. And for me, I find myself only having to oil my scalp every 3 days, while also keeping the style in and not doing too manipulation. Oil is not just a sealent. Whatever oil you use, rub it on your hands first. If it soaks in, it will penetrate and moisturize your scalp because our scalp is just like the skin on our body. Lastly, the thicker your hair is and the tighter the coil, the smaller your sections should be because you really want that product or oil to set in. Our skin is like a sponge. The more time you spend with your hands in your hair, the more your fingers are absorbing the moisture and desturbing the balance you've created. I hope this has helped please let me know if it does. And enjoy your day.

You are so gorgeous. I feel your pain as well. I think its an individual thingl. I do a lot of protective styles, deep conditioning, silk pillow cases and bonnet, i always drink lots of water, always have, trim when needed, etc. Yet I am not seeing growth the way I want either. BUUUUUT on the other hand my sister who doesnt do any of this, flat irons, etc, her hair freaking TRIPLE grows lol!!!!!

What is the purpose of twisting your hair every night? I'm good with twisting once every 2 weeks and my twistout lasting. But you're on the right track, less manipulation is good

This happened to me too! I had crochet braids in for a month and I swear my hair was healthier and thicker before I had crochet braids installed. When I took my crochet braids out, I had major shedding, like major! It wasn't just an accumulation, it was that and more. So now my hair sticks up in a weird way and I'm just so frustrated, so I will be wearing wigs until my hair grows back all the way.
@BriaLarine8 жыл бұрын
Same, the shedding was really bad for me but if you don't usually wear protective styles and then you get it for 6 weeks or so all the hair that sheds daily can't go anywhere. So that's why you shed so much after crochet braids

Twisting every night/manipulating your hair so much might be the main thing! When I don't just leave my hair be, say in Senegalese twists, or a alone between wash days you notice less length retention. I also get a lot of incomplete splits from over-manipulation. I've had a sew-in for a month so I'm gonna do this length challenge with you :)
@alexiacastillano2348 жыл бұрын
I had thought the same thing, but I started drinking plenty water and just massaging my scalp whenever I had the chance and I DEFINITELY saw growth!!! Hope this helped!

You're beautiful. I wouldn't take everything that the naturals say to with my hair because what is best for their hair may not work for me. Its all about taking advice and trying new things for me. The Naturals videos of how they got their hair to a particular length do come in handy but I never really add everything into my regime. You have to take things with a grain of salt. For me I particularly don't deep condition that often unless I feel the need to. Like right now its hot and the humidity can be drying so I may do a deep condition one a month or once every two months. I try to use a moisturizing conditioner. When it comes to products look for moisturizing and stimulating ingredients like biotin, horsetail, peppermint oil, almond oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil. Try to see get a feel of what your hair likes and what it doesn't. Taking good care of your body from within is very important. eating lots of fruits and veges and drink plenty of water. Also your hair go through a phase. Sometimes your hair goes through a resting phase and then shedding phase. Hope that helps some =)

Hey Bria...I'm going to try this with you... I'm going to drink more water, eat healthier and try to do a protective style on a daily basis for at least 2 weeks. Let me know when you want to check back in to see if we have accomplished our goal of retaining additional length. I'm right there with you gurl!!!

Hi I just subscribed to your channel and I'm experiencing the same things u r my hair is the same length as yours and I've been natural for over 3 years. I know its growing but the length is not there when I say the struggle is real lol I hope you have success with ur new regimen
@sandiemercy5748 жыл бұрын
Don't use the scalp massager every night, in the beginning you'll see growth but your scalp will get used to it and it'll stop making a difference. Use it for about just one week in a month. You should also try the inversion method, I've heard it helps hair growth.

Hair only grows 6 inches a year, on average. If you trim it a lot, it's not gonna grow much. I went without trimming for 2 years especially to get growth. It works. If your hair is all virgin, you don't need to trim it loads.
@robinayers81078 жыл бұрын
Marleen G. Your suppose to trim it every six months😁
@amixeblu8 жыл бұрын
Robin Ayers LOL. I'm maintaining classic length aka butt length since about a year and I trim every 4 months, take 2 inches off, that means I no longer grow hair. ;)
@robinayers81078 жыл бұрын
Marleen G. First of all your cutting too much hair off. If your not doing any heat to your hair, you would get a dusting in 6 months. Your cutting away, what you grew. Your. doing your update too soon. Also over manipulation is another reason. Your hair is growing but at a slower rate.😀😀😀😀

Bria Larine i understand exactly what you mean about your hair not retaining length/not growing. i dont wear my hair natural for a long period of time because my hair wont grow when i wear it out .it will only grow when its in a protective style because my hair does not like manipulation too much so i i highly recommend you protective styling and trying some vitamins which will help get mote nutrients in your system.this will give your hait more of the stuff it needs to encourage growth and the protective styles will help you retain the length. hope this helps

I wash and deep condition and do the loc method and then i put a bun in my hair for the week if it gets frizzy i touch up with water and eco-styler gel and my hair is growing . It is probably because you are putting your hands in it to much,make sure you keep your ends moisturize.

Girl! Since being heat free for 1 year, my hair just stopped growing. I'm about to put it in crochet braids for 2 months. If this ish doesn't grow, I'll shave it off, I'm tired. I'm gonna increase my water intake as well. Let's conquer this!

Yes. Drink a lot of water. Also fish and avocado (eating avocado and using it in my hair as a mask every few weeks with olive oil and honey) and not washing too much helps. Coconut oil and Argan oil have also been helping me. I also do it in protective styles a lot. I went through almost ten years of it not growing. I put it in a bun at night. Don't do rubber bands that much, either. I wear it loose a lot. I also cut the heat products and the hair relaxer. Multivitamins are also good.

Hey hun, I had this problem before starting my healthy hair journey. Sometimes your hair needs a game change because it has grown accustomed to your routine which has become the new norm. Try the water only wash for a while and switch back to complicated routines. The alternative that helped me was doing deep conditioners with natural products such as fruits, oils etc... Most of all believe that your hair will grow and let it do it's thing girl. Best of luck xxx

This Argan Rain stuff is GREAT! I feel like a new man. My hair was thinning and falling out now that i'm nearing almost 40 and I was very self conscious and would wear a hat all the time until I tried this product. In just months, my hair is growing like a weed. It's thicker, fuller and feels great.It smells really good as well. I've tried other ones and they smelled horrible. I definitely recommend getting this, to anyone who's skeptical.

I just found your channel and I am loving your videos girl! I love the honestly keep up the videos! you have such a bounty of info! and yes girl just leave your hair alone and stimulate your scalp! I thought my hair wasn't growing either but once I switched to just doing wash and goes every few days and massaging my scalp nightly my hair shot out of my scalp ahhaha just let it be girl and it will grow! also drink up that water and add in green tea and that will help with your bodies health as well.
