The best day of my life was when I accidentally combed my hair while damp! I had read in a couple of books (that honestly was not written with natural curly-kinky hair mind, but I was not aware at the time) that combing and detangling hair that wasn't dry would lead to breakage. Then one day I messed up, combed my damp hair, and was amazed that it was actually easy to comb, detangle, and style without breaking!
@ShelbySteele238 жыл бұрын
Girl me too! I used to only comb my hair dry and isnt wasnt until I was natural that I learned it was better and much easier to comb wet hair. Going natural in general has taught me so much about hair.

Gurl...my hair has gotten longer and I'm nearly at my goal, I've always had problems with breakage and shedding. Recently, Ive discovered that my hair really likes to be left alone. So now what I've been doing is just keeping it stretched and in a bun. I detangle once a week (always have done that) but now I'm trying finger detangling. And even though the shedding is annoying, I noticed that it wasn't as much as it usually is. So I must be on the right track

Ok so all these tips are great but they are for retention of the hair not for hair growth A major thing people forget is that your genetics determine how much hair growth you will have. It doesn't matter how many trick and tips you use, if your genes are not encoded for long, full, thick hair, no products or tips will help you achieve that. Secondly in addition to your genes you diet is a factor that can influence your hair growth. You know that your hair is dead protein right? so once it has grown out of the follicle, all you can really do is manipulate how long the hair stays on your scalp before falling off. Where diet can help you is in enhancing the metabolic processes inside your body that result in formation of the hair strands before they grow out of your hair follicle. Foods rich in proteins and B vitamins really help to enhance said processes. Also supplements help because they work from within. In addition, diet influences your epigenome which can activate or inactivate the expression of genes. So everyone has 2 copies of genes for any given trait; you could have inherited copies of genes that code for both short scanty hair and long luxurious hair but are only expressing the ones for short hair. By modifying your epigenetics with your diet, you can actually activate those genes for long hair and start expressing them to then grow long hair. HOWEVER you have to possess said genes and you have to activate them through internal processes that happen within your body. External factors like less heat, hair products, detangling etc., all just help you to retain the hair that has already grown out Not trying to knock anyone's hustle, because people's insecurities about these things do help with the audience and customer base for products but people also have to know the facts. At the end of the day, you have to love what you were born with. If it is short scanty hair or Long flowing luxurious hair, embrace it, and rock the shit out of it! :D

well these tips are great for those who aren't meeting their full potential. people think my hair can only get this long but it was not true it was the hair regimen.
@deedeenelson73998 жыл бұрын
Tina Oh disagree. My moms hair is thin mine is thick. My dads hair is straight and mine is curly. Your genes are only relevant to the color and maybe texture so please stop telling people these lies thank you
@TwinkleTinsle8 жыл бұрын
deedee nelson lmaoooo wow!! Lol yea let's completely disregard everyone else in your generation line that contributed to your genetic makeup. Let me put this in layman's terms lol You do realize that the genes that make you who you are didn't just magically appear in mom and dad right? They got those genes from somewhere. Then let's add the concept of dominance and recessiveness to the expression of those genes, which means that just because your parents do not express the trait of thick or curly hair does not mean they do not carry the genes for said trait. Genes influence EVERY TRAIT you express. When 2 random people come together to have a child, the child's phenotype depends on what the mixture of genes from both parents produce. I'm really sorry but the magnitude of ignorance in your comment is overwhelming lol unfortunately you're allowed to believe whatever you want, no matter how wrong it is. So while I'd love to sit here and educate you on the concept of inheritance and genetics, which is something I've studied in depth in my career field if I may add, I'll just let you disagree because that is your God given right lol Have a wonderful day
@TwinkleTinsle8 жыл бұрын
Valinda Smith that's true, they're great for those not reaching their full potential because they help you retain the hair on your scalp so that you can start noticing a difference in hair growth. I mean if your hair is falling off/cutting at the same rate that it is growing then you won't see a noticeable increase in length and thickness. Yea for some people these tips help because said people are already genetically predisposed to having long hair anyway. Therefore the tips just help to make that growth more evident by retaining the hair
@humminbirrrd8 жыл бұрын
Tina Oh Thanks for posting this! When I first went natural I was so frustrated and confused because my hair didn't come out like some of the youtubers', even when I followed their tutorials exactly. I feel silly that it took me so long to realize that my hair never will look like theirs because I have thin hair. Once I understood that, my hair life got a lot easier.

Tip: only shampoo ur scalp unless you have alot of product in the rest of ur hair. Ur hair towards the scalp needs more cleansing because of the sebum that ur body produces. Ive done water only washing and clarified every two weeks. It worked amazing and be mindful of hard water.

is well water bad for natural hair?
@indigoldd8 жыл бұрын
Courtney Daniels well water contains minerals that can dry your hair out just like tap water. Best to go with bottled purified, spring or distilled water for washing if you can't get a filter...it'll save your hair but it can most definitely be a hassle

Once you get passed shoulder length I thing the focus should be how to keep the hair on your head. It doesn't stop growing it starts breaking off because the older hair seems to become more dry and brittle. I'm waist length natural 4c/3a/3b combo. And the dryness is real if your moisturization practices aren't on point. Additionally transitioning into more finger combing methods is mandatory. Just my take 🧡✊🏽😎🤣💗
