I have a sympathy and respect for these people. As a person, born and raised in Korea, when it comes to work ethics and sociality, there seem to be a lot of stuff that most of cultures don't understand just like any other different culture. But they seem to stay positive and willing to blend in the culture.

Even as a Korean, I would NEVER work in a Korean company. I love Korea, and have a lot of national pride, but it is very tough. I feel like it's about who was there the longest, and not about who is the best. Good luck to the Russian girl, seriously. You can never talk back either, even if the "senior" is wrong....

Not every company is like this. Far from it. There are a ton of small startups that are raelly fun to work in. Also, the Korean offices of major international tech companies like google and microsoft are also great places to work. Only the big chaebols have bad work environments.

oh, come on. adelia reallyyyy needs some work ethic. I'm not korean, but not sighing in front of your boss and complaining all the time is common sense in the work field. if she acts like it's the end of the world every time she gets something to do, how does she expect people to be patient and give her work? I still wonder how they keep her there.

@babycakes70ify9 жыл бұрын
I was a little too harsh on Giulia, it must be a tough situation for everyone in that household, the space is so limited and there is barely any breathing room for anyone, no wonder tensions are always high...I hope that things work out for her and that both parties give in a little and try to work together, otherwise that marriage won't last.

Gulia's making progress. Baby steps. So's her mom-in-law. You really can't judge these people based on these snippets of their lives. I used to think her husband wasn't very helpful, but I was too quick to judge. I think for Adelia, the harsh schedule of waking up at 5am makes her dazed and confused. No amount of coffee and substitute for a well rested brain and body. Although, it doesn't excuse her from all of her mistakes. Arnaud's way of speaking is a bit funky, but at least now he's willing to compromise and meet his customers halfway. What he's doing isn't that new, imo. Crepes are really popular in Japan, and I thought it'd carried over in Korea. It may be new in his neighborhood I suppose. He just needs a better shop location where all the young and trendy people are.

Being frank here, work parties in SK are ridiculous. In UK we have them once or twice a year, the one that is always happening every year is the Xmas party for colleagues but we can choose whether to go or not. I always avoid going there as I don't drink and don't want to be around anyone that does. It's my choice and no one treats me differently just because I don't go. In SK it's totally the opposite, you're forced to go. If you have any other plans then you have to skip your plans and make the work party the priority but that's unfair cos they seem to have one every few days. If you don't go a few times then it's ok but if you make it a habit of not going then you're treated differently, like you're not a team player.'Work party' just becomes another chore for work'. Let's say you're supposed to get off work by 5-6pm, add the work party and your working day isn't done until 9-10pm. Then you sleep and go back to work. >_

Honestly among the forigners from the program I find Around personality the most plesent. His mother in law is a sweet lady with a charming personality. The interactions between them are funny, cute and hilarious at times because both of them have interesting and unique perspective. Adelia seems like a genuine young girl is just that for her the work environment and rules are a little harder because she is foringer in Korea a country completely different than her own. To me she still seems like she tries her best. Giulia is really a sentimentalist lady but that is also part of her country culture. Italian people are know to be more emotional then any other people from European countries. Also objectively speaking it must be very hard to her to get used to such a different culture and country then her own. She needs to learn to be more patient firstly with herself and then with the others. I believe she has the hardest and harsh emotional transition to her new environment and country comparing to the others.

I have to wake up at 4am 5, sometimes 6, days a week, for work too and I have to get out of the house by 5am to get to work for 6am, so I understand the difficulties Adelia faced at first. All my life the earliest I got up is 8am for anything planned for the morning but all of a sudden I have to wake up 4 hours earlier, I felt cheated. I used to sleep at 10-11pm but now I realized that I need my full 8 hours of sleep so I try to get to bed much earlier. It's sooooo hard to wake up that early and go through the motions of brushing teeth, getting ready etc. but definitely after about a month it becomes a little bit easier. You get used to it, but I still get annoyed and angry once in a while when it gets a bit too much. I can never bring myself to eat breakfast that early though. I just drink water and suck on a menthol sweet which is good for the throat. It makes me happy. lol

OH MY GOSH Giulia and her complaining. Yes it is clearly difficult for her but jeez she makes way to many excuses like "i'm to shy...I've tried that...." and just to many complaints over all your making your own life more difficult if you've been living together for 10 months you should have the hang of it. All the woman wants is to get along and teach you how to keep your marriage happy. (Granted some of this is too old fashioned) but jeez WOMAN TRYYY and cry go for it. It may be annoying to some but it helps to release those feelings. (just don't let it be known every time you cry.) And listen to your sister, the fortune teller, and critine.

arnoud isn't really cut out to be a chef if he only makes dishes that fits his palate and think he can make a living with customers with just the opposite palate of his. just because he doesn't like that kind of texture or taste doesn't mean nobody else like it either. I don't really agree with you though. At first he was relucant and yes he pissed me off too but at the end, he really tried hard, he tasted the bean paste even though he doesn't like it, and he cooked it at home, all by himself and the elders really liked after they tried it. He was really nice to them, he tried hard and it payed off. I think that at the end of the day, he changed his mind and I hope they can get allong better now. On the other hand I think he's sometimes a bit too harsh when he talks to people, especially to his wife but they love each other and they're married, and we don't don't anything about them or their couple, but yeah, a bit too harsh and stubborn haha

Every time I see Adelia's episode, I get more angry. They don't train her properly and then scold her for not being a mind reader. I thought Korean companies were better than that. No proper training, no integration office for foreign employees, no help whatsoever. If you want more foreigners to come and work in Korea, you better step up your game. You can look at Europe and see how it is done. In moments like these it becomes apparent that Korea, despite modern technologies and a number of big brands, is still way behind.
@swisscorn2 жыл бұрын
agreed. they went through a rapid rise in wealth and technologies but the mindset is still very much rigid and old fashioned. that's how most eastern asian countries are due to their society being high hierarchical and rooted in filial piety.

I don't think Arnaud is annoying but more childish but Giulia is annoying. She keeps on complaining and not trying to communicate with her in-laws. She continuously lock herself in her room and blame all the problems on to her mother-in-law when she herself is also part of the problem
@Hazel02839 жыл бұрын
***** Her mother-in-law is extreme but yet Giulia isn't doing anything to make it better. She should just do some of the thing her sister or Christina say. All she is doing is being a thorn, all she say is I can't do this I can't do that. You have to put in the effort and patience for things to work out you can't continuously butt head with them All mother-in-law in the beginning are the same but with effort you can get on to the in-law good side What drama do you watch? cause the drama I watch the mother-in-law are bitches
