In order to compete for an Oscar you have to be 3D animated, 2D is dead to the oscars so re-imagine this movie in 3D and than talk..

Raskal Robbin I Think we can all agree that certain type of stories, are better adapted into 2d animation, because it gives a different feeling. I mean, can you do a scary scene with 3d animation? These Movies were good, because 2d animation is better. Or would you like to see Attack on Titan in 3d animated. (havent seen the Movie yet).

I came across this movie on a channel when I was a kid. It gave me a little chills, but it was time to go to bed without watching the whole thing, then I begged my dad to find him again. I said there's a big gray rabbit, I didn't know its name but then I never found it. Now sitting at my cousin's house, I saw a little Totoro toy I said oh my god how much does it look like the creature from the movie I watched when I was little, but I forgot the name so I took a picture of it and googled. And yesss that was it, I found it. Here is the movie that impressed me a lot in my childhood. It was just in my imagination and it's not clear but I still remember them waiting in the rain at the bus stop and this cat bus. God, I can't believe I didn't forget.

Same. I never saw it as a kid but even as an adult you can feel the wonder of a child’s imagination when you watch it. That is a testament to the movie’s quality that it can do that without any nostalgia needed.

No movie has ever portrayed the pureness and innocence of childhood like this one. Everytime I watch it I feel like I'm that 5 years old boy again, and I didn't even watch that one when I was a kid. One of the only three movies that can bring peace to my heart no matter how depressed and stressed out I am, the other two being When Marnie was There and Only Yesterday. I love Totoro, it really helped me overcoming a very tough time of my life. I'll treasure it in my heart forever ❤

My Neighbor Totoro holds a special place in my heart as well. As a child, I was captivated by the whimsical and enchanting world that Studio Ghibli created - from the fluffy and lovable Totoro, to the magical Catbus and the lush, vibrant forest that serves as the backdrop for the story. Watching it now as an adult, I'm transported back to those carefree days of my childhood, and I'm filled with a sense of joy and wonder that never fails to bring a smile to my face. It's incredible how a film can have such a profound impact on us, and My Neighbor Totoro is a testament to the power of storytelling and imagination. Thank you, Studio Ghibli, for creating such a beautiful and timeless masterpiece that will continue to inspire and delight audiences for generations to come

I first encountered this movie when I was as young as Mei. From the next day, I went out to the mountains every day to look for Totoro. I even ate fresh vegetables from my grandmother's field. Yes, I live in Japan. Just then, my mother was hospitalized in a car accident. I understand Mei and Satsuki's feelings more than anyone else. My mother eventually passed away, but no movie has ever cheered up my young heart as much as this one did. Mei and Satsuki were doing their best, so I had to do my best too. It was fun and cute, and I still love this movie.

It was the spring of 1988 when this movie was released in Japan. Although it was a work by an animation production company called "Ghibli", which is still not well known, many parents and children visited because of Totoro's cuteness. But at the time, the film was being screened at the same time. The first is "My Neighbor Totoro". After the screening, the children and their mothers smiled. The second is Grave of the Fireflies. Parents and children who can not stand up from their seats appear one after another due to the cruelty and gap.

I remember when our parents took us when we were all little to the Lamelle Theater in Pasadena to go watch the, "My Neighbor Totoro" and, "Grave of the Fireflies" double feature. It was years later when I would read multiple articles depicting the double-billing as a incredibly strange choice, but I remember feeling an overwhelming sense of joy and serenity after spending the day experiencing the gamut of human emotions alongside my family. I remember peaking in the dark theater over to my parents, seeing them wrapped arm and arm as my father consoled my mother from witnessing innocent children struggling to stay alive. I saw my older brother, who's mind had already begun to critically analyze the narrative structure of the story, sit back in wonder towards an innocent story of sisters playing with their imaginary monster friends. I saw my baby brother, smiling in amazement through everything. The memory that stands out most of all was walking away from the theater around eleven fifty five p.m. I remember this because of Mom's surprised gasp at how much time has passed and how past our bedtime it was. The rain had just stopped, so the Pasadena streets were glistening beneath the Marquee. I remember running with you both in the serene silent streets as Rich was trying to retell his favorite scene with the Cat Bus, you asking Mom how she felt when watching the boy lying down in the subway, Mom brushing the thought aside to announce that it was way past our bedtime. She was always trying to protect us with her demands, even if she was deflecting from her genuine feelings. I remember asking Dad for the keys to the car so that I could run ahead and open the door for everyone, even though my secret motivation was to hold car keys in my hands and jump behind the wheel before I would inevitably get punished. Dad was already tired, so he put his hands in his pocket, pulled out the keys, and threw them at me... This moment in time stood out to me the most. The keys shimmering in mid-air slowed down the passage of time. I saw Midnight Pasadena glowing underneath the the rain drenched Marquee, the silhouettes of the letters resembling my jubilant, exhausted family. I saw your faces inside the shadow's, all four of you incredibly happy. For a moment in time, as my aspirations to grasp the key was before me, I could feel the light across my face. I could feel our story existing. The best stories will always help you remember why you hope. Isao Takahata was an incredibly storyteller. His vision will be missed. I am certain that the abundant gifts in lessons and life he left behind will never be forgotten. I know we'll remember.

I'm a grown ass man but I know what it was like to get lost as a child, and to be found again is such a joyful feeling. I actually choked up when Mei was found. Great movie.

i have found out about this movie because i ordered phone cover with picture of some strange but very cute creature....and in reviews of this phone cover somebody wrote something about totoro and it gave me possibility to google out this wonderful movie ... i was very suprised its of 1988, as all my life i have never heard anything about it and never got to see it accidentally too. So there is no continue had never been done? Such a great success and no continue seams unfair!

Thank you so much for the music!!! It has such a calming effect so I listen to it when my mom is screaming and yelling outside my room about how I am a nerd and a garbage-like creature. Ghibli music always makes me smile and forget how painful I am :)

Fun fact:Setsuko of Grave of the Fireflies and Satsuki of My Neighbor Totoro were born in 1940, the same age. And the two films were screened at the same time, so the audience watched My Neighbor Totoro after seeing Grave of the Fireflies.

Love it being 55 years old, it brings back my younger days in Germany where we had 'Heidi' and many other anime tv series every week :o) I went and bought the fluffy white bunny for my kittens to play with and they love it! And yes, I want more Totoro too :oD
