It has been something I have wanted to do for a long long time now. Today I finally purchased my 1st dirt bike ever! You made the right choice. Getting into dirt bikes unlocks a different kind of adventure with seemingly endless skill progression. Few things to start with: -Get used to the controls, then learn the 3 standing positions (accelerating, coasting, braking). -When riding faster speed, pinch the bike with your knees (sitting or standing). This will help with death gripping the bars. -Work on static balance in the garage. IRC Tire guy is a great channel to get lost in, he does a great job at breaking down just about anything bike related. 250F is a great bike for now (way better than a 300R for you right now given the huge weight advantage), though I foresee a KTM or Beta 300 2T in a year ;) *edit: If you ride in rocky areas, I'd recommend ultra heavy duty tubes to prevent pinch flats.

Dude, thank you for that awesome comment. I currently as of today of 2.5 hours on the bike the first hour and a half just riding around my property trying to get the feel for the bike and balance proper position stuff like that. Today I ventured out on a trail for the first time and boy was it taxing and nerve wracking hitting sections of soft loamy sand in the trail gave me some unsettling moments. I was stressed lol I know I have much to learn but i want to do this so back at it again on Friday. 🤙🏻

@@OdysseyOffroad sand is interesting - best way to get through it (for me) is standing with your weight/hips further back on the bike and stay somewhat on the throttle. When you come to a stop, try and stop on a downhill. There's so many different types of terrain to explore that will stress you out in the beginning. However, no matter how "crap" the ride went, I've always looked back and yearned for more.

You mage an EXCELLENT choice as a first adult sized dirt bike, its going to serve you well for a long time... it wont hurt you in the beginning, it will teach you everything you need to learn, and ultimately it has the performance to reward you with a "job well done"... once you learn and can do your part, this little Honda can do its part! PS: you're not crazy, I ride this same bike at age 62, although I have been riding some kinda of motorcycle since age 10

Thanks for the reassurance. Believe it or not I got a lot of advice to not get this bike from some people and to get something faster and bigger and while I understood where they were coming from in a way. I just didn't feel comfortable making that decision. This bike felt right. Thanks for the comment!

I really enjoy riding dirt bikes it’s the crashing them I’m really good at though lol 😂 good luck with it brother For the bars I highly recommend phoenix bars. Love mine on my quad

@@OdysseyOffroad I snagged some phoenix bars for my quad and love them. May be something to look into. I believe they are pretty focused on motocross bikes but I’ve enjoyed them way more than stock on my quad

You were looking at the same bikes I’ve been looking at. I think I’ve decided on the CRF250F like you. Although I wanted one that weighed about 240#’s or less. But didn’t want the 125cc bike. My main reason for choosing it is the fuel injection. My riding is mostly in Texas at around 1000fsl. Or in the summer I’m riding in Colorado at 8-10k fal and didn’t want to have to rejet the carb twice a year. Hopefully when I get Bach home I can find a great deal on one as well.
