I live at Ingleton and see these scenes all the time. I will take more notice and take more photos now! One place I'm sure you will love is Grisedale, a dead end valley off the Sedbergh-Hawes road, near Garsdale station. It has some hauntingly ruined farmhouses and is stunning, in it's remoteness. Check it out, you will not be disappointed.

Really enjoyed this one. I think your videos are getting better and better. I feel like you are teaching more than ever and it suits you I have to say. I’m an experienced photog and I really enjoy your approach. We have some fantastic erratics here in Alberta too, carried down from the mountains into the prairies. Incredible!!

Super video, as ever and fabulous scenery. Just an observation, but I find the music quite loud in comparison to your voice volume...the most important thing is you (after the scenery) and the music really only needs to be incidental, not intrusive.

Great video. Watching you evolve has been a treat. If you haven’t read Ansel Adams’s books, I recommend them. He practiced pre-visualization. The zone system was a tool to know how he would print a negative for the pre-visualized final print.

When I lived in Leeds, I went out to the dales one morning, and found a group of cows all frozen solid. The farmer was besides himself. He had never seen anything like it. This old lady walked passed, and saw us and came to help. It was amazing, she put her hand on each cow and instantly they defrosted. Full of wonder the farmer asked what he could do to repay her. She didn't want anything. As she left I asked what her name was. She said 'Why, I'm Thora Hird'.

I'm still at the stage I can only partly pre-visualise and that's more to do with the technical side of post-processing e.g. am I going to bracket, Focus Stack or both? Hope to get to that limestone area one day Henry, looks a really interesting place for photography. I saw what I think is the same/similar area on Adam Karnacz's channel a while ago and thought it looked great then and your vlog confirms it. Have to say I frequently Focus stack, don't always use them all but I would hate to have something out of focus and I know you can check the camera screen but it's small and can't always rely on my old eyes !! I envy the focus stack option on Nikons (and many other brands) I shoot a Canon EOS R but for some obscure reason they put that feature on the RP but won't update the firmware on the R to give that functionality to it.

If you really want to practice previsualization , give up digital. For so long as that LCD screen and the possibility of endless edits and file manipulation of raw files exists, previsualisation is not going to happen. If you are not into film then shoot JPEG so you have to get it right , more or less, in the camera. keep safe.

I'm going to go out with my crappy compact and get a shot, I blame you for this revelation that will inevitably lead to lots of money that I don't have being spent on a DSLR and lens's lol. As I recover from health issues and a decade of barely leaving my house I plan to go hiking alot and I am lucky to live where I do so I should take advantage of that to add some purpose to those expeditions other than health.

Hi Henry I watched that previous video in the snow and I meant to ask you a question back then. The question was, do you do anything like take a photo of a Grey card before you start shooting so as to get your White balance right for that shoot, because of course snow can confuse the metering on a DSLR, or do you just shoot away and then sort out White balance at post processing. Which do you think is the best way to handle WB in those conditions? Cheers Henry another great video BTW

Hi Henry, another excellent video. As ever great advice to work out what you want before you go, remember what might be there for next time, and if it doesn't work out, make the most of the opportunity you have .. almost like good advice for life!.... Sound advice on post processing too, its kind of "less is more", in my very very limited experience, half of that you initially think, is probably about enough. Keep up the good work. When you get chance and the Covid situation dies down, take yourself a visit over the the North York Moors, some of the dales up there are magnificent ( Rosedale included ), not to mention that you might get a shot of the North York Moors Railway from near the hole of Horcum ( not a medical condition ) across the moors near Fylingdales, and over at the coast near Ravenscarr isn't too shabby either. Have a good Xmas Henry, all the best to you, and those you call your own ... and last but by no means least, to all those on the channel, festive greetings .. .OUT ;-)

Top shot at the end, and enthusiasm (as always)! I've been heading out here a lot recently - I totally agree about the change of seasons leading photographers to bleaker landscapes. This is one of my favourite locations - 𝘧𝘢𝘳 more than Malham, primarily because the limestone weathering and jointing are more photogenic here (in my opinion!), but also because there are no other people. At all. 😉 I see my parking space at 7:35 😄 (not 8:07!) BTW, Gragareth is the highest 𝘱𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘵 in Lancashire, but not the highest 𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵 (that's Ward's Stone) - Gragareth has negligible prominence.
