Funny, I bought a used 2021 first generation FQ model. Had the same screen door issue. I'm an engineer and saw the door frame is bowed out at the latch. The dealership agreed and before we transferred ownership they replaced the door! Surprise! New door has the same bow! The door latches but the brush insect seal is not totally covered. So, this is a Lippert door issue. I wish now I had just shimmed the latch because the replacement was not the same quality in the way of caulking. Good video, btw.

Black paint on the AC. Bad idea.
@TheRVPastime3 жыл бұрын
Talking to a couple people from Dometic and Coleman, there is no affect to the AC unit as far as efficiency goes when it comes to black and white shrouds. If there were, they wouldn’t make them in black. Space between the components of the air conditioner and the shroud itself plus the ginormous vents that are in it allow the unit to do its job properly regardless of the color. Will the black shroud itself be hotter? Yes, but no affect on the units according to the pros.

Had to come back to this video; which you did a great job. I was camping here in Florida this past Memorial Weekend and an older couple had this same model with a 12V fridge. We spoke casually because they were using a metal corral for their dogs. Apparently, they own a new 5th Wheel Impression by FR and keep it in Tenn. Love the black aluminum rims on this rig. We own a new 2021.5 Surveyor Legend 19Bhle. As for the 12V fridge could not see us going with an Electric & Gas after having a 12V. Although it may not be everyone's same application. Hey Nick! I picked up my 16TS last Friday! I love it already. It has a couple of smaller issues but nothing major so far. Came with the Castle Rock tires though which I want to upgrade ASAP. Did you switch to the same size Goodyear Endurance tires or did you upgrade? I would like to move up in load capacity but don’t know enough to make an educated decision. TIA!
@TheRVPastime3 жыл бұрын
Congrats on your new 16TS! Welcome to the family. As for tires yes, I switched to the same size tires in the good endurance. I’m not sure if getting bigger tires is really that big of a need for this particular type of trailer. Considering the max load at 65psi for the Endurance ST205/75R14 tires is 2080 pounds each, and the 16TS axle GAWR is 3500, you should be fine as long as you never overload the trailer. Hope that helps! Either way, tire upgrade is a must for both peace of mind and safety :)
@jnicksnewstart3 жыл бұрын
Very informative video. Have you ever weighed your trailer when you're loaded for a weekend or week?
@TheRVPastime3 жыл бұрын
I have yes. It’s at about 3400lbs. I don’t travel with water in the fresh water tank either. I’d go over the axle rating on the Tacoma if I do.
@jnicksnewstart3 жыл бұрын
@@TheRVPastime Oh. What does your hitch weight end up to be? I thought the Tacoma had a pretty good tow capacity. Isn't it five or six thousand pounds? Sorry about all the questions oh, but I have an 86 Ford F350 DRW so I never thought much of tow capacities with small trailers. Now I'm passing that truck onto my son, and in the market for a much smaller truck. Actually maybe not even a truck in the sense. I've been looking at that Hyundai Santa Cruz. It has a 5000 pound towing capacity, but it's smaller than your Tacoma. I don't want to run into braking issues either. Thank you for any input or opinions you may have. I don't want my total weight to max out much at all over 3750 pounds. I want a safety buffer.
@TheRVPastime3 жыл бұрын
No problem, the hitch weight is somewhere around 500-600lbs. The common misconception about tow capacity is that the advertised number is not usually what its actually able to be. In my case because I have the “pro“ package on my truck that adds more weight to the vehicle and my payload is less which affects what I’m able to actually pull. My truck is able to pull about 5600 but in my honest opinion the Tacoma‘s just really don’t have the power or the transmission to do anything that heavy. Can it? Sure. Should it? Debatable lol.
@jnicksnewstart3 жыл бұрын
@@TheRVPastime That's why I want such a large buffer. I'm also worried about frontal mass. In the past, I have pulled trailers that were not particularly heavy, but felt like you were walking with a piece of plywood on a windy day. It's no big deal when your truck is tipping 8000 lb, 23 ft long, and has a set of training wheels, as my brother so affectionately called them.

Here's the thing about these trailers...the GVWR is 3970, however the axle rating is only 3500lbs. So, in reality you shouldn't go over 3500lbs on the trailer anyway. Im currently sitting at about 3400lbs with the trailer. The Tacoma pulls it "fine" meaning, its all within limits and payload capacities. However, the Tacoma doesn't really like to tow heavy things in general. There are plenty of observations from manufactures and RV owners online when it comes to the color of the shroud on the AC unit. The overall consensus is that the color of the shroud has little to no affect in the performance of the AC unit. It all comes down to the quality of the AC unit itself in construction, design, and installation. The shrouds are a means of protection from direct sunlight and rain. I spoke to someone at Dometic about this very subject and the response was a giggling “no, the color doesn’t matter. If it did, you would only see AC units come in white. It’s just an aesthetics thing”. Because the shroud is a thin plastic piece over the AC unit with multiple vents and holes it does not do a very good job at trapping heat as if it was a sealed unit.

Hello. I really enjoyed your video. I ordered a 2021 Wolf Pulp 16bhs. I want to do led bulbs for the exterior. Which route did you take in doing this to your own?.... Nice truck too! 😊
@TheRVPastime3 жыл бұрын
Which LEDs are you referring to? The trailer marker lights or the awning? The LED replacements for the marker lights on the outside of the trailer are 194 bulbs. Simply pop off the covers and replace the bulb. Thanks for the note about the truck ;)
@dustyroads76133 жыл бұрын
@@TheRVPastime Thank you so much, the bulbs for the outside markers lights is what I’m looking to upgrade. Thanking you for providing the 194 bulb number. 😊
@TheRVPastime3 жыл бұрын
Sure thing! Also just a heads up some LED bulbs can only go in one way otherwise you reverse polarity so I suggest you replace them with the lights on and if you plug in the bulb and it doesn’t turn on flip it around and see if that works.

Did you add any additional gauges to monitor trans temp on your Tacoma? Do you use ect when towing or shift. Thanks. A towing video or hooked up to the truck?

I do not monitor the trans but have considered that. And yes, I always use ECT mode while towing.

Will a ford F150 1/2 P/U with a 4.6 V8 pull this with no problems, even up mountain passes?

I would say so. Check vehicle/trailer specs to be sure.

2023 Wolf Pup 16 TS owner here, what a joke. I am a single guy, never loaded the RV to capacity ( I don’t carry water) just some clothes and food. I was headed to Lake Tahoe at the end of August when my Inferior “cast” aluminum rim literally blew up. I never ran over anything or even heated up my brake drums. I was traveling on a flat area of hay 20 when my rim blew up, instantly. I had full coverage insurance, they wanted to have me file a claim, but because there was no accident no can do. Because it’s a manufacturing defect. The “wonderful” free towing took 2.5 days of me sitting on the edge of the bay before they had a con artist tow company tow me to my maximum distance of 100 miles. Zero dealers in a radius greater than 100 miles would allow my trailer on their lot. The place where I bought the trailer also refused to fix the problem. They referred me to the Manufacturer. Let me be clear here, the rim blew up into hundreds of small shrapnel pieces of aluminum. And, the shock load of the trailer instantly loosing the rim caused the axle to break and the leaf springs to be severely damaged. The company has never called me back. I ended up at a gas station for another 3 days. Totally dissatisfied and disappointed with Forest river and the entire RV experience. This is a 2023 that was just over 6 months old. This was my baby, I washed it every week just to keep the dust off her, it was immaculate before this happened, now it’s been sitting in my driveway for over a month and no one is willing to do anything for me. Are we living in the Twilight Zone? Confused, sad and totally dissatisfied. Looking to get thru to Forest River.

Let us know what LED strip you replaced for the awning, the blue light at night isn’t that useful for seeing, more of a statement light and not functional.

You could use any weatherproof led strip from Amazon honestly.

@@TheRVPastime yeah just for whatever reason the awning is locked in the app. I can control just the awning and the scare light in it. I had hopes of being able to do more with it
@TheRVPastime3 жыл бұрын
I have the 16TS but I have had that happen a couple times. That’s a safety feature built in. It usually locks out the awning when it detects movement such as the trailer moving down the road. Usually if you tap the physical switch, it’ll unlock and let you control from the app. I find that usually it’s locked out if I try to move the awning from the app shortly after I finish setting up. But, later on, it functions properly. Give the button tap method a try. :)

Love your modifications as I own a 2020 Wolf pup 16 fq. So far I've only added two 100 watt solar panels to the roof and the hydraulic arms to lift the cabinet doors as they pull upwards. Noticed you put your lithium batteries inside the storage as oppose to being outside where the original one was. Was that for security as they are pretty expensive? It takes up your storage space. Looking forward to more ideas in the future.
@TheRVPastime3 жыл бұрын
A little bit was security, but mainly it was because I wanted to have all the electronics in one place and short cable runs. Plus, lithium batteries don’t do well as you get to freezing temps (if I was ever in that situation) so it was better to have them in a climate controlled environment. As for the storage space, for me, that small amount of storage space it took up wasn’t a big deal.

I wasn't able to use the existing wire to pull new wire through for a new solar setup. Also when I rewired my control panel I found it was held on by one half inch screw. It was the worst wiring job I've ever seen. Horrible QC.

Wrong 16' Wolf pup, the 16pf is much better, that east west forward bunk is not fun if you have a SO, crawling over one another at night is 0 fun, so you took the A/C unit that is going to keep you cool and painted it black so it will over heat? Why? Great video though, thanks I know not to buy that one
@TheRVPastime3 жыл бұрын
Everyone has their own preferences as far as layouts. Now, when it comes to the air conditioner cover, it doesn’t cause it to overheat just because it’s black. There’s all sorts of openings on it. Besides, they make them in black. I just didn’t feel like spending a bunch of money just to get a black cover when I could paint it myself.
