If I remember right, the final course for his engineering degree in Germany involved completely redesigning something from scratch. It could be anything, and he played guitar and decided to redesign the guitar, and decided to do metal for the body, and while he was putting the design together, he put the pickups over the body where he thought they would go, and then realized that they stuck, and that's why the magnetic pickups are not permanently stuck to the body
@versoinstruments Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the wrapup! We don’t have to re design something from scratch, you just follow an idea and see where it gets you - but you’re right that pickup attachment just happened along the way! I started with a roof batten guitar just to show myself a body isn’t needed to make a good sounding guitar. That proofed, so I fooled around with textile materials for an ergonomic body and that led me to the sheetmetal shape ( wich almost looks like a textile we draped over a neck wich I liked a lot). The pickup attachment came as a byproduct of the sheetmetal and quickly became the main feature :) Sounds a bit random but sometimes things are just like that haha! And the development to the point of what you see here took me years (even after my degree in industrial design)

my mind is blown. like I wasn’t totally sold on the value of moving the pickups at first, it felt more gimmicky than useful, but when you split high and low strings between left and right with different fx chains on each it was unbelievable. it feels like being able to record two completely separate guitar parts at once. and imagining the interplay in mixes with something like a more complicated lead melody trading off as if two people are playing, it’s just so creatively inspiring. (also the section at 18:30 reminds me a lot of Crumb, absolutely love it)
