Kodak Gold with a cheap on-camera flash is THE look of the 90s. Last time I tried Gold with flash I thought, "oh my gosh this looks like high school!!!" The photos immediately made me think of Nirvana and pagers and Fresh Prince and slap bracelets. I don't know what it is about how Gold responds to flash but it transforms in a really punchy but graceful kind of way.

Been shooting a lot of Gold lately and loving it too! But on the east coast it’s been hard to come by, so when I see it or it comes in stock online I buy it up. Also on the east coast the only drug store film I come across on the rare occasions it’s in stock is Ultra Max 400. But it’s over priced and come in 24 exposures.
@pancakelens753 жыл бұрын
I agree…also I’m just not a fan of Ultra-Max. Love Kodak Gold, long as it’s daylight. For lowlight-that’s where the fine grain of Portra/Lomo comes in. I REALLY wish Walgreens would drop the UltraMac and start carrying Gold instead👍🏼

YES!! You just validated my feelings about Kodak Gold 200, I have definitely noticed that superia has a greenish yellow shift in my Pentax K1000, but with Kodak Gold the images are definitely warmer, which I agree looks GOOD to my eye. With a 50mm 1.4 wide open, the superia has this funky 1970's glam photo look, which can look kinda cool in a stylistic way. the Kodak Gold I thought looked great when I went to the lightner museum in St Augustine Florida on the sandstone and blue skies. It just fits warm summer scenes exactly like you want. Superia is at it's best with cooler season landscape scenes. I think it has something to do with your expectations of the color palette given the scenes. Warm tones are expected in warm scenes, more blue green in fall and winter. Mixing those up just looks... weird! Bang for the buck wise, it's really easy to get nice photos with Kodak Gold, I have yet to be disappointed by the pictures I get with it. It's a very forgiving film in that regard
@pancakelens753 жыл бұрын
I live in Phoenix and Kodak Gold makes for some beautiful photos for this desert climate, long as it’s daytime. Obviously it’s a faster speed, daylight balanced film, too grainy for lower light golden hour-that’s where the fine grain of Portra or Lomo come in. But for daylight shooting Gold is my go-to👍🏼

I think Gold and Ultramax give off what I call "family photo" vibes, i.e. they remind me of photo's you'd find in an older family album. That isn't a bad thing or an insult though. I love the vibes it gives and use it specifically in some situations for those feels.

After I clear out my film archive to a folder to free up space, I found out that I didn't shoot Kodak Gold for 10 years now, the last time I shoot with it is probably early 2014 as far as I remember but I still didn't found my archive from that time using Kodak Gold. My impression at the time is that I don't think it's a particular good film compare to more expensive professional film which I am more amazed by them, Kodak Gold have somewhat tough grain, high contrast, and a bit vibrant picture with yellow tint, which I don't particularly like at the time and it's a film my father always buy back when in was in my childhood, when I found a store that sell more expensive film, I try those film and never go back unless I just want to shoot just for testing the camera and didn't want to care about the picture. Maybe I have some prejudice but I to this day I still have a feeling that I don't want to shoot cheap film, the only cheaper film I shoot time to time is Kodak ProImage 100 and sometime Fuji either 100 200 or 400 but I rarely do though not to the point of not shooting with it at all like I do with Kodak Gold and ColorPlus.

Kodak Gold was obscenely cheap here in Germany until recently. You could pick up a three-pack for 7.90 euros in a drugstore. Recently they've upped the prices to 18 euros, more than 100% increase. Still relatively cheap in comparison with other colour films but I feel a bit ripped off paying so much more than what I was paying just six months ago. Anyway, it's a film that has grown on me a bit because I didnt like it at first (it's pretty crap when it's not sunny). Still, I think I prefer Colorplus when it comes to cheaper Kodak.
