I am NOT a gardener but I stumbled upon your channel several months ago and have become an avid viewer. Laura, your passion is contagious and your encouragement leads me to believe that I may be able to come up with some sort of garden this year! Last year I was paralysed with the gardening 'what ifs' but this year I'm filled with excitement and I owe that all to you. Thank you so much and keep spreading your passion and light - it's truly contagious!

Perfect timing. I bought some of these pelleted seeds . I started a small cut flower garden last year after being inspired by your channel. My daughter is going to get married in July in our back yard and she wants me to grow the flowers (yikes...no pressure) Her colors are green and white. I'm going to start mine today...thank you for the reminder. I'm a 61 year old beginner , so I need all the help I can get! Thank you so much. I learned lisianthus focus on root growth for a good long while before above ground growth! & their seeds want to be really moist when germinating. I am growing every color from 5 different series this year! 🤪 (Crazy I know!) But I love them sooo much! They look like roses but last longer in a vase! I bought pelleted seed last year & luckily they germinated just fine for me again this year! I loved the picture of the apricot but the rain damaged those more. Surprisingly though, the white & purple "blue picotee" didn't get a lot of damage? Those were my favorite. They are soooo much more beautiful in real life! I'm so jealous of your lack of rain!

@@sharongauss9298 yes I just put them behind my shed. Each jug has drainage holes so any rain will just run through. The only thing I watch is that they don’t dry out. Good morning ladies, I am from Southie but moved to rural Vermont 10 years ago. It will be first time doing the jug planting but having to wait til Feb since we normally can't plant until middle of June we still have some frost days. My husband is 4th generation on the farm and there was not a flower or shrub on it, we've planted a lot last 2 years and are looking forward to an explosion of color this year! When I was a wedding floral designer my fav flower was lisianthus so versatile. Lupine grows wild here, love the blue. I hope we get the snow Friday here its my hubby's birthday we're going to take the grandkids out on the pasture for some sledding, hot cocoa and a bon fire and if we are lucky the cows and horses usually gather and hang out, they like to watch lol. I do miss my 5am Castle Island walks & the ocean!

Lizianthus are native to my North Texas-called “Texas Bluebells” where they grow naturally in prairie black gumbo soils along swales and creeks where the soil stays moist longer into summer. It’s always amazing to find these beautiful delicate blue flowers growing and blooming on blazing hot and dry summer days when everything else is crispy brown. As hard as these are to grow from seeds in controlled environments it’s seems unbelievable that’s they grow so well in terrible soils and in crowed prairie habitats. Nature is amazing.

So I have a funny story! My brother and Father got a huge grow light on a track. So they decided to use my brother old pool table. They pulled off the felt. Placed heat matt's and covered the whole top with seed trays with flower seeds and vegetables trays. One day my Dad is having coffee at my brother's house sitting in the kitchen with my sister in law when a knock came to the front door. When my sister in law answered it...it was a whole swat team! A neighbor had noticed the grow light from the basement window and reported my brother to the police. Who actually monitored his outside electrical box! My Father and brother had built up the sides with panels of aluminum foil boards to reflect the light within the pool table top. And they had a small fan running. Those two were so proud of their garden and some of the flowers were budding up. But from the window you couldn't tell what was growing but it did look like a large grow production area. Upon answering the door my sister in law was taken aback and her behavior caused my Father to come to rush to the door to see what had caused her reaction. It was and entire swat team and they surrounded the whole house. They had a warrant to search the house.... Needless to say when the furnace kicked on all you could smell was allsyum blooming all over the house. Needless to say they searched every inch of that house and was embraced to find their two months of surveillance was for nothing. It became a big joke in the neighborhood and rendered an apology from the police department on the news. That year town locals would drive by the house where my father and brother had really abundantly over planted my brother's yard and garden. We still joke with my brother when he starts his seeds and say, "better call the chief of police and tell him it's seed starting time!" They probably had a thousand plants that year. I mean you could shake hands with your neighbors from any window in that house. Small city block home plots! Those two bought tons of seed packets like you Laura and planted every seed! They even expanded it onto a table the length of the pool table on the side and just as wide not seen by the basement window. That light cost those two $400. The next year they decreased the size. But, boy oh boy it was like a jungle in the basement! Talk about embracing a police department local and the swat team from the city!!!!! But my sister in law was not amused with those two!!!! It was quite the ordeal!!! My Dad told them the pot was growing at the neighbors house don't let that old guy fool ya!!!! LOL They actually planted up his flower beds too....the neighborhood ate fresh vegetables that year and all had beautiful flowers up and down the street! Also they had dug up the whole back yard for vegetables!!!!!!!!!! It really was pretty amazing!!!! They had expanded into the abandoned alley and planted blackberries and raspberries....... They had created a little oases of a garden.... that over flowed through the neighborhood. You make me think of those two and that time when you start your seedlings! Then I call my brother and we laugh again over it. My sister in law even after all these years just rolls her eyes and says only you two!!!!!! ❤️🥰🌻

I blame you for my addiction to seed shopping. I’ve never had luck growing seeds, though I realize quite a few of my mistakes now. That said, we moved to a new house with 3 acres of landscaped yard and most of the flowerbeds are covered with decorative rock so there is a lot of potential for flower planting once I get my husband to move the rock. There are 5 beds ready for flowers and I pulled the black eyed Susan’s and white daisies simply because I”m not a yellow and white flower girl. I have a ton of Zinnia seeds in vibrant colors waiting to be planted but also several new poppies and cosmos and other fun flowers waiting to go in. Fingers crossed I manage to keep the seedlings healthy

Watching you most every day has convinced me the old adage holds true to me, "you can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl". We are seriously looking to size up in land, down in house size. You've inspired me to live my dream while I can. Thanks, Laura!!

how fun is this!!! always amazing to see a tiny spec of something turn into beautiful plants and flowers!! you are inspiring me to try more seeds.. typically here in socal we can direct sow, and i've never had much luck with it... but i've turned a raised bed that's too shady now for veggies into a little nursery for cutting and seeds, so we'll see!! i love that you have so many spaces now to plant to your heart's content!! 🙂 ❤ thanks for the video!! 🙂 ❤

Last year I showed a $5.00 packet of Lisianthus from Johnny’s. I was able to put 3 per cell in 18 cells. While all of the cells had germination, in the end there was only one sole survivor, that bloomed for me beautifully. I sowed the beginning of December and saw germination in 2 weeks. They grow so slowly you can never tell whether they are growing. However the roots are growing during that time. I planted them out around April first which was like a month before the last frost. They didn’t mind, however the temp never went below 23 degrees I made many different mistakes that eventually led to their death. Firstly, I am not good at remembering to water. The pots definitely dried out several times. One the leaves begin to wrinkle it’s beyond repair. I also sowed them in sterile soil with no nutrients, these were pots they stayed in for 5 months. When I planted them outside, 2 were dug up by rabbits and a third shriveled and died. The sole Lisianthus bloomed for me around august 1. It stayed colorful until around December 1. This is in 5b, WISCONSIN, by the way. It wasn’t bothered by high 20s frost. However I will not be doing it again! Haha

The pictures of the flowers are beautiful. You do the seed starting with such ease. I so wish I had an area to start seeds. It’s so fun to watch you start them and care for them. Tfs.

I do enjoy your seed starting videos! They give me something to look forward when there is snow on the ground & the temperature outside is below 0! I am anxious to see color outside but it only January. I will start making out my plant list for the 2022 season & start ordering!! 😃🌿❄📝🌸

Thank you for this! I loved your Lisianthus last year SO much that when I saw some at my local nursery early last summer I got all 3 colors they offered. Since then I've wondered about starting more from seed this year! I've had many adoring and curious compliments on them in my front yard!! I'm in 9b So.CA, and some haven't stopped blooming, even through our mild winter. I love them, even though I've felt much like a new mother with them! The "blue"(more royal purple color) gets the most swoony compliments, but surprisingly I love my "green" ones! They are the prettiest ivory white color with a soft lime green center. I also have "white", and they're so bright white they are beyond pristine! I didn't know about the various blooming times but this seems to explain why two plants slowed down at the end of summer, and the rest are still blooming. Thank you Laura! You always inspire me!

Ooooooh! How lovely to see a video about seeding Lisiantus today! I have three varieties I purchased last year but alas, they were shipped too late to start them so this is the year! I'll be growing Croma Green, Croma Pink Picotee and Arena Apricot. I had never heard of different groups of Lisianthus for flowering times! I'll have to look up my varieties to see when they bloom! I knew I had to get these seeds growing early. I have become dependent on WHEN LAURA DOES THINGS so I can do them too, whether it's starting seeds, organizing pots, or planting out. Our zones are similiar so that helps as well! Thank you for this great video!

I agree about mixing soil and water before potting. Makes things so much easier! I like using a spoon to fill my pots and cells. It's so much more accurate than using my hands.

So excited to see this video! Currently reading on Johnny's Seeds about how to grow these and said, (to my kitty's of course😂) "wonder if Laura has made a video on how to grow these b/c they seem a little fussy!" AND voila here you are! Thank you (and Aaron) so much for the daily inspiration, the knowledge, and for making the world a better place.
