The Pitch Black is honestly one of the best urethane balls I have ever thrown and I have owned them all, both modern and many Vintage urethanes. The ability to move right and roll the Black right up the boards and have it read early and then "smoothly" continue across the lane with perfect control and no loss of hitting power even on very dry conditions is what makes it truly amazing. The Black's motion is very much like the first urethane Rhino's.

I love the original Rubicon, so I had to get a UC3. I found it cleaner up front than the original Rubicon, which gave it more angle in the back. I don't have the highest ball speed, so when I move deep left I sometimes have trouble carrying, but the UC3 seems to know no limit, it's really sick! Great review!

Reminds me of the Brunswick BTU (better than urethane). Looks like a "Urethane" cover blended with some reactive elements to be more versatile/shape.

Reminds me of 900G Shadow Ops. One of my favourites of all time, grabs a fresh 44ft 24ml pattern no problem, but it'll handle a 35ft 24ml just as well. Maybe this is the replacement for my Shadow Ops🤩

Roto's site says this is a new cover so I don't think it's the same. It does not feel like a resin/urethane hybrid to me.

@@sadboisonly1004 The Pitch Purple was a resin/urethane hybrid and it is very different than the UC3. I have both and can only find rare instances where I can use the Pitch Purple. It seems to act like resin on dry and urethane in oil, so it's pretty inconsistent. The UC3 WRECKED that heavy oil house pattern I bowled on last night. The cover never quit even after it had a ton of oil on it (thought I DO wipe down my equipment after every shot). I have tried using the Pitch Purple on that shot and it doesn't work. I guess what I am saying is that the Tour-ethane cover is a big improvement over previous urethane covers. It's early-ish and smooth but it does not quit after it has some soup on it. As I said before, I can't wait to get another one and put it at 3000-grit for use on more normal house shots and I think both will be great on sport patterns.

I know this vid is two years old...I just pulled out of an old bag my Roto Rubicon UC3. .. I had new grips put and a thumb insert... The Pro Shop gave me two games, and I wish I would have watched this first... Honestly, I completely forgot how this ball reacts.... I was all over the map.

UC2 and UC3 are about 3 miles apart. Why not get an OG Rubicon? Especially if bowling house shot. Urethane cannot do anything better than reactive on house shot for 95% of bowlers.

@@donkeydiehard879 Best answer I've got right now is I dont want the solid. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ I dont typically perform well with solid equipment.... not sure what it is, but they tend to burn up on me... but I've only been bowling for 4 years so I'm still figuring some things out... I've been on a mix of house, challenge, and sport this season between leagues and tournaments; and I've been in situations where I've caught myself wishing I had a stronger urethane than my pitch black. It works for my game.

UC2 is my favorite ball in my bag. I picked it up about a month ago and initially I wasn't a huge fan of it. Come to find out, I wasn't using it how it is meant to be rolled. I was playing way too deep with it and was using it on fairly long patterns. Once I started moving right with my feet and coming more up the back of it, and waiting til about 2nd game to use it, it's a damn beast. Finally bowled a 3 game set with it last week in a late league so it wasn't fresh oil, ended up shooting 267, 248, and 227 and sadly I'm only carrying a 197 average at the moment, been out of bowling for a few years so I have a bit of rust to shake off. But now that I know the UC2's limits and I wait til the conditions are right for it, I feel like my game will be back to where it was really soon

He just needs someone to draw up some graphics and a color scheme he likes and then from there pick what coverstock he'd like to go with and a couple other factors. I’ve seen this thrown in person in league. Man, does it carry the pins back off the deck. Its reaction is not dissimilar to a Purple, but it does look a tad cleaner, fresh out of the box + 1-2 shots on it (same for fresh surface).

Uc2 is a pearl lol Also i had a hot cell and multiple purple hammers, the purple hammer is undisputedly better than the hot cell, even tho it was good in its own right (im lefty so i throw urethane on basically every sport shot except when there’s either too much volume or it’s just too long)

City leagues hate when you use urethane balls esp the high rollers they get mad you mess up their line to the pocket with a urethane ball it carries the oil down the lane. I was told to put mine away lol.

Real question because I don't fully understand different types of balls: what is the purpose of an aggressive Urethane? At that point, why not just use a reactive ball?

There really isn't one, at least not that I can think of. The only reason I would want this strong of a core in a urethane is to avoid carrydown (which is a fantastic concept), but I sure as hell don't need it to be with a cover that's this early. The typical use case for urethane is short or flat patterns, because it doesn't jump hard off of friction. If this ball forces you to play deep, and jumps hard off the dry, it's more just a show pony than it is anything actually useful... *shrug*

Hot Cell is traditional urethane with a giant core. The main difference is the reaction in oil. Traditional urethane HATES oil, but the UC3 does not. The Tour-ethane cover on the UC3 is similar in that it sets up well, but it's overall a different feel because it doesn't hate oil. It also does not settle in and get weaker as it gets oil on it like other urethane balls do. See my review above for details.

@@Jackal_Blitz You're missing the point. Jax didn't say "This is exactly like the Purple ball", but that it's Storm's version. The Purple ball is an anomaly. It has a unique reaction, one you would not expect from a urethane ball. The UC3 is the same way.

@@Jackal_Blitz Absolutely. The Pitch Purple WAS Storm's attempt at recreating the Purple ball. I think it was pretty clear that's what they were trying to do. It didn't work, which is why we didn't get a Pitch Red, Green, etc. Instead they went back to the drawing board and created the Tour-ethane cover and added it to the Rubicon core on the Roto Grip brand. It's still clearly an attempt at creating a urethane ball that's got a lot of motion and hit, just like the Purple ball.

That face Darren made was me last night. Got mine on Wednesday and used it in league last night. FYI, this house puts out a 30ml pattern. I'm left-handed. Here are a few points: - #damnthisballhitshard - The Tour-ethane cover is a REVELATION. I am VERY experienced with urethane and try to use it as often as I can (#HOTCELLFOREVER). If I think I will need to use a urethane piece, I will throw it a few times during practice just to get the cover oiled up and allow it to "settle". This Tour-ethane cover DID NOT SETTLE. I used it for over two games and it got oiled up, but it never stopped. The reaction was the same the first shot and the last shot. - The sheer volume at this house makes ball reaction inconsistent, especially on the left side. Reactive will often sail because there are so much oil so using something that's earlier and consistent is important. I had a FANTASTIC look with the UC3 last night. - Energy retention was ridiculous. Hit at the pins was noticeable and BOOM. - OOB surface is 1000-grit, so making adjustments for less oil can easily be done. I already ordered another one from my PSO. For that second one I will put the pin just a little higher and bring the surface up to 3000-4000 for use on drier lanes. - IT HITS VERY HARD Cant wait to get another one so I can use it in my other league that has a more normal-volume house shot. This one will definitely stay at 1000-grit.
