I got a UC3 last night. Had the chance to throw someone else's purple a couple times as well. Both were good. What I foubd was the UC3 was more forgiving of misses in and still carried the off hits a little better. And the Purple was more forgiving of misses out, taking a second to set up then driving through the pocket where the UC3 started to bounce immediately. Saw a similar thing watching you throw it. Personally, I like the UC3 a lot, but i think a Purple Hammer would go great with it as a similar look, just with a different feel and response.

The Purple rolls like urethane. Requires more control and closed down angles to be successful. It will reward the great shot makers. Rubicon rolls like resin. Tons of recovery from leaked shots and less accuracy and control needed to get to the pocket. Rubicon will likely match up better for most players, especially those players that have only thrown Resin and expect the ball to do the work for them.

The rubicon is a little cleaner but it has a fair amount more kick downlane than the purple, the purple is closer to traditional urethane than the uc3. The both compliment each other pretty well, when the purp is a bit to slow downlane throw the rubicon and if backends are mega clean you can throw the purple

Blessed enough to have both, myself. However, I just recently made the switch to a full roller layout, so the UC3 is drilled full roller, and the hammer is drilled 4x4x2. Both are nasty, but the flare on the UC3 is ridiculous
@LuisNapoles2 жыл бұрын

@cryptonator19882 жыл бұрын
Is full roller mean pin down or up? Does this make the ball more continuous through the pins or give it more flare/snap?
@georgeadkins23522 жыл бұрын
@@cryptonator1988 Short answer, it's a semi-agressive layout. Full roller means I have the pin at my thumb. As a right hander, I track oil across the center of my grip, and more to the right of my thumb when using pin up/pin down equipment. Putting the pin at 7 o'clock and the CG at around 2 o'clock prevents me from tracking across the finger holes. It's a great layout, don't get me wrong. However it hinders versatility when compared to pin up or pin down, as there's not very much you can alter as a full roller.

I'm not sure they were this close... Despite you being on similar launch angles and having similar breakpoints, UC3 seems a bit cleaner though the fronts, more aggressive in the midlane and a bit more of a hook-set motion compared to the PH. It seems to be a better urethane ball to be played like reactive, when you dont want it to read the fronts too much like you normally do with the PH. Of course, this is all conjecturing based on somebody else throwing. I'm gonna get the Uc3 and see if I see that myself.

Would either of these balls be redundant or play a similar line as the Camo? Another great vid Luis.

Great video Luis! I've watched this video about 3 times because I've been considering getting one of these. To my eyes watching your ball motion, the shapes are different. While both balls are urethane/pearls, the UC3 shapes more like a pearl reactive and the PH more like traditional urethane. As a two hander, I think I can get the UC3 shape from a pure reactive ball, but I don't think I can do the same for the PH. So its the Purple Hammer for me. Thanks for posting this video...well done.

I can't comment on the PH but a friend of mine has both these balls and is in love with the UC3, whereas the honeymoon with his PH was very short. I recently purchased the UC3 and saw a nice advantage to it over my usual reactive stuff on that it provides a small margin of error, whether in or outside target. One thing that has surprised me is how quickly this ball has lost its traction in the less than 20 games or so that I've used it. I'm now having to stand 5 boards right from where I was during the first half dozen games which has made it nothing more than a very good down and in ball. On same conditions I've gone from standing on 25 and crossing 10 at the arrows to standing at 19 and crossing 8. Any more angle than that and it won't take out the 10 pin. I clean it religiously after every 3 games so it's not a saturation issue. Anyone else see this with the UC3?

@@coopergates9680 You would think so but in the past, any new balls I've bought took a few games on them to get broken in and hook better, not less like my UC3. Several months later now, the ball still hooks exactly as it did after that first 20 games and is very dependable on most conditions. According to my pro shop owner, all you need to clean this ball is alcohol, no special cleaners. It's been very consistent for the past few months.

@LuisNapoles3 жыл бұрын
With urethane balls I always wanna make sure they flair and can actually make the corner
@hamboner22 жыл бұрын
3 3/8 pin distance is the “most flaring” pin position, so by doing that, he maximizes the balls track flare. A 15 degree Val angle gives it a quicker response to friction, which usually translates into more entry angle into the pocket, which increases the potential for the ball to strike.

So is the UC3 the polymer variety of urethane instead of pure urethane? I think therein lies all your differences if so. Purple Hammer rolls much like the classic urethanes of old albeit stronger. The Reactathane like in the Pitch Purple seems to me like what the UC3 is. Both have their pros and cons so it probably really is what fits your throwing style best is where you should go. Nice video. A note if i may : Neither ball is a urethane. I think it adds to the confusion in our sport if we perpetuate misnomers. The video and comparison is great. But lets call them for what they are. Rubicon is either a Pearl, or a Pearl-urethane blend. And the Purple Hammer is also some reactive blend with "urethane". I can also notice between shots that the Rubicon is obviously more shiny than the Purple Hammer. So either the initial grit was not the same, or one got more shots than the other, or they get lane shined at different rates. Then on the sport pattern, when you talk, the Hammer is duller than when you used it on the easy shot. So i assume you resurfaced before going on the sport pattern. As you should. But the Rubicon still looks shiny.

Hammer mentions that theirs is a pearlized coverstock as well (and as yourself mentioned, it absorbs some oil). What a ball is, and what the marketing department decides to call it, are not always the same, especially on weird blends :) It is possible that it may be illegal for them to just straight call them "urethane" . Beginner here, how are you riding the edge of the lane on the other pattern without the ball going in the gutter? What are you doing with your release/arm, around the 11:00min mark. #new video material idea
@LuisNapoles2 жыл бұрын
I’m playing the pattern. The oil pattern is very short so playing the extreme right is essential

Totally here for this comparison, but I think it's important to note the UC3 is an asym.

Is the UC3 a true urethane cover or is it more like the D Tank cover?
@Fejix873 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's an actual urethane cover. Seems more of a hybrid like the Fanatic BTU.
@clarkydm3 жыл бұрын
@@Fejix87 Fanatic BTU pearl still a all time favorite ball of mine. Think I'm going to pull it off the shelf tonight. That sucker soaks up oil, I left it in the sun 3 strait days this summer more oil coming off of it than the entire Alberta oil sands reserve. Definitely not a urethane cover.

So the tech sheet says its Tour-Ethane so honestly no idea lol but its being marketed as Urethane
@jerryhollon61532 жыл бұрын
LOL I don't think you would throw those at our house. I think those 2 would crap the bed throwing some of the lines we seen in this video. There would be a lot of very loose light hits, washouts, and some of those tosses would never make it to head pin. Of course you could make work but would have to slow down a lot and probably move right more. The inside line would work. We just don't have that kind of friction on the outside.

Okay this is something I really want to see. Does the UC3 absorb oil? Currently of the popular urethane balls, only the purple hammer acts like a true urethane and absolutely absorbs no oil. Purple tank absorbs oil, fast pitch and pitch black do too (at a slower rate than the tank). My question is does the UC3 absorb oil or is it a true urethane like the PH?
@LuisNapoles3 жыл бұрын
So the purple hammer absolutely does absorb some oil. I have one and I’ve intentionally left it there overnight and it does absorb oil, the uc3 does as well a little. Way less than reactive though

It’s all opinion and subjective but to my eyes they are as different as I expected. I think the PH is still the goat thane ball, but the UC3 may be the goat “what do you mean this is thane?” ball. For me urethane is pretty much “if I have one I have one” but I’m not sure I’d feel that way about the UC3. PH, sure.
@LuisNapoles3 жыл бұрын
Thats interesting
@HuTi2 жыл бұрын
I love my UC3 but it’s definitely not pure urethane. It soaks the oil in, altough a bit slower rate than regular reactive balls.
@LuisNapoles2 жыл бұрын
The problem with that statement as I’ve said many times before that all modern day “urethane” absorbs oil at some capacity. If we go by the rule is zero oil absorption then there’s no true urethane
@HuTi2 жыл бұрын
@@LuisNapoles That's correct, thanks for the clarification! The UC3 still absorbs oil at much faster rate than any modern urethane ball I know. A bit slower than reactive covers though. The question is, should we extract the oil from it like we used to with the reactive resin balls or leave it as is?

Your review seems to be the only one that's claiming these two balls are equal. The UC3 is stronger in the back end. It's more versatile by far. I'm not sure hiw with only 3 shots each you were able to come to the conclusion the cover on the hammer is stronger lol. I'm not a fan boy of either manufacturer.
