If you flip to the third page of the logbook on your voyage table, you can see your stats for the current session. The bottom right number is the gold you made this session.

Back when I first started playing this game, Mason was my comfort KZbinr. I would watch every new video he released and then go back and watch as many old videos as I could. Couldn’t get enough. He’s even the reason I searched and searched for an obsidian 6 pack until I got one. That was so long ago and Mason is still so entertaining and I’m so glad he’s back and enjoying the seas again. i have been saying that exact thing about having actually a reason to grind for gold since day 1. i think the concern there is already the very large skill gap between new and experienced players. adding beneficial mechanics to those more experienced players would increase the gap even greater.

Wait until he finds out about ship trinkets, the “captaincy stuff” that chat tried telling him is a money sink as he’s saying this game needs a money sink. Millions spent on trinkets EASY (although you gotta actually earn them to buy them, so if you don’t accomplish much as you sail, you don’t sink as much money 🤷🏻‍♂️).

I’m new to this game and I’ve come across the skeleton ships as a solo and sometimes they sink quick other times I’ve hit them with 8 cannon balls low on their hull and nothing stopped them at all. Any insight?

Yes the gold sink kind of sucks in this game but the other problem is that a lot of people have gold who haven't really haven't progressed far enough to fully utilize the current gold sinks. Like for me as an example; I have roughly 11 million gold, Own all 3 ships, slapped on free obsidian cosmetics for my ships, my pirate is good enough.... I'm not even a pirate legend. lol There is no point of progression in this game,. The main gold sink is cosmetics but you have a cash shop for cosmetics? duh Owning the tiers of ships should have some sort of progression tied to them, and cost vastly more and add variants of how they look. Have the sloop class with the same stats but offer different looks. The basic pleb sloop, a sloop with the sails in the back or whatever. (like he skele sloops have a rear deck) Give us options like that for the gold sink.

Since I'm not massively into PVP, the lack of a goldsink, and therefore a reason to actually go out and earn gold, is a big component of why I can't play SoT for long periods. Earning gold just to buy comestics I'll never use is pointless. But I've no idea what kind of content they could release at this stage to remedy it. They can't add damage upgrades or anything like that because the level playing field is what makes PVP not feel completely insurmountable.

Purchasing supplies worked, so if they add more supplies like merchamt gunpowder kegs, and captaincy chain shots, maybe even things like collectors chests, and the fart horn. That would be a slight dent in our pockets. But we would still need an even better money sink.

And on top of that, the joke you’re trying, and failing, to make is that EA gouges peoples’ REAL money through micro transactions, not in-game currency (gold, the currency you earn in-game and use to buy a ship).
