billiondollardan I installed the head and the motor wouldn't run still. After a leakdown test the motor needed to be opened up and new rings installed. I ended up selling the boat and motor because I really needed the room. The people who bought the boat installed new rings and it runs good. I lost the footage of me installing the head so thats why I haven't uploaded a video. Sorry guys.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with composite intakes, infact most times they are better because of the weight saving and they don't conduct heat and they don't corrode.

Advantage #376 of having a 2 stroke over a 4 stroke, we have a 2003 mercury 200, and we had some problems with water in the fuel, the fuel water separator got completely saturated with water, and the motor just shut off, we drained the fuel lines, and installed a new fuel water separator and it ran like new.

What you call smoke coming out of the throttle body is compression coming back through the intake do to intake valves not seating properly

Or blow by. I don't know if it's done on outboard engines, but it looks like positive crankcase pressure. Quick trick would have been to soak the combustion chamber with transmission fluid to help break down the rust. Might help reseat the rings and valves.

I would suspect this engine was overheated and this caused the subsequent issues. Composite intakes are far better than any cast metal. All new cars etc use them as they flow better and are less weight.

You need to just take out the valves and resurface them. Clean everythingelse. That's it.

The only way to lighten a 4 stroke engine is with composites. Merc did not go cheap. They went 4 stroke. It looks like you have at least two valves stuck open, no guys its not just cuz of the cam rotation. Also, that smoke coming up from the intake when turning it over was because at least one or two valves were stuck open so was pushing everything back out the intake. Clear out the salt, new gaskets, machine shop and off you go.... Or lol put a real outboard on it... you know.. the proven type called a two stroke :-)

2000 15hp evinrude 4stroke. No water at tell-tale, new impeller. Engine running i disconnect the water line going into a component where the 12” tell-tale line is also attached. Good water pressure coming out but nothing going through the component. Not sure what it is, a fuel cooler? Tried clearing with a wire, air and salt away without success. Any ideas? Next step is to take off component. Thanks

Unless you really know engines, say from having a mechanic dad watching and learning from him when you where young, you'd want to take classes about that stuff

Or start off small with a cheap project boat or jet ski. You can pick up Kawasaki 550 standup jet skis pretty cheap and learn about two stroke engines working on them. Lots of info on KZbin and Facebook groups that can help you out. Where there's a will there's a way.

This 19 y.o. should NOT do what "ThatBoatGuy" does and do a lot of useless work (in this Merc O/B's case) cleaning up rust and foreign matter in the intake tract WHEN THE VALVE TRAIN IS BROKEN! But he didn't understand that BROKEN METAL PARTS means it needs MAJOR WORK, so that "removing rust" on the UNBROKEN parts won't make ANY difference. Both "ThatBoatGuy" and anyone else wanting to work on engines, of ANY time, should READ SOME BOOKS on the subject. Like this one: www.amazon.com/How-Repair-Briggs-Stratton-Engines/dp/0071493255 Then, if still interested, see what your local COMMUNITY COLLEGE offers, in terms of coursework/certifications, etc.... Also (at least, in the 1990's) if you were a mechanic (they call them "technicians" nowawdays) at a Mercruiser dealer, the factory and/or dealer would pay to send the technician to "Mercury School" (or whatever they called it) periodically, to keep your training up to date. I'm sure other major manufacturers have similar continuing-ed. programs. Try contacting your local BOCES, as well. And there are good sources of education on KZbin. Sorry but never seen water sip into the water separator from the outside, its a sealed unit. If the filter is not drained out then water will go into your fuel line and engine will start to missfire, outboards dont like water in the fuel at all. So this story about the filter been floded is not right. 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
