Another great video, thank you! I had the opposite experience at the first service for my Multistrada a few weeks ago; work was completed ahead of schedule, accessories were fitted, I received a video made by the technician of the work she had done on the bike, and all the settings were still as I had got it set up to my liking. Great service, I thought, when I was a bit unsure of their reputation. I did have to pay for it, but even that was not as expensive as I feared it might be. And the sun was shining so I had a lovely ride home on my now derestricted beast 😀

Once again you have the ability to stay clam and positive when faced with disappointment, to be fair I would have only been slightly annoyed as I have low expectations for service so not to be disappointed. I think the real problem here is that a large manufacturer with a premium bike should be able to make the on board satnav work properly, it’s not as if they have just been invented, and you shouldn’t need to do a merry dance to get it paired up. I think for a winter tour you should head north not south 😉😉

You are quiet right to feel let down. You are not being particular at all as others mention here.. You simply expected to get an excellent service from the dealer... and they failed to meet their promise to you. I hate complaining but poor service should be called out for what it is.... or else the dealer will never know they need to take steps to ensure your experience on the day is not repeated with other customers.

great video, super sound quality, with cars and bikes I always ring the garage before returning, seeing as you had their bike if you had rung you could have picked it up the next day after they finished the job maybe - or maybe you did ring and they told you it would be fine - you are *not* being unreasonable at all though, they should have rung you. Love this video, great commentary as always. To be fair though how much of a hassle is it to screw on a ball mount fitting? I have found that no built- in satellite navigation systems work well, even on very modern vehicles. I go for a separate system every time, although I think, having tried both, that neither TomTom nor Garmin can compete with a good satellite navigation system on an old phone mounted as high as possible into the normal vision area (usually well above the handlebars).

On my Goldwing 2021 Tour DCT bike you can quickly turn the start/stop off and on by repressing the big red start button whilst the bike is running - treating it as a toggle switch for the start/stop function.

FYI if you’re using Car Play and stopping for gas (short stop) turn the ignition knob once to the right and the engine stops but all the electronics stay powered up. When done one more twist to the right on the ignition knob and start the engine. I agree the sequence required to get car play working is cumbersome but it does work pretty well once you figure out all the quirks. I would not like my phone in the boot and I don’t desire an air bag but probably would be good in a front collision.

I installed a TomTom Ryder GPS on my R1200GS and I am very happy with it. It works out fantastic routes for me and I am re-discovering Sweden with all the interesting and exciting routes it gives me. Installation was easy as BMW has auxiliary Can-Bus plugs that you can use. All I had to do was buy a male plug and solder it on to the power cable that comes with the GPS, plug it in, route the wires, and mount the GPS bracket. Now the GPS comes on with the ignition and switches off about a minute after the bike has been turned off. The App works ok but not all the time. (Android) So working out a route indoors on the phone and it sends it to the GPS as soon as you turn on the bike saves a lot of fiddling with the unit once on the bike. Overall very happy with the Tom Tom and it's waterproof, I don't even take it off when I wash the bike with a high pressure cleaner!

In all fairness the work has been done with the satnav mount, the remainder of it is just to mount it which the majority of people would do when they go out depending on whether they need it or not. Regarding shutting down for gas stops -- After turning the engine off, put the bike into "accessory mode". This will enable you to keep all of your connections live, including Android Auto, or Apple Car Play. If you need to go inside the convenience store, I am not sure if someone could steal the bike while in accessory mode without the key fob. I usually turn mine completely off if I have to leave the bike. Regarding air bag models - This was always an option in the US prior to 2022. You can still get the front compartment with the USB connection if you don't order the air bag model. I have about 18,000 miles on my 2021 standard Gold Wing. It's been a great bike so far - handles great on twisty's due to the low center of gravity, and is very comfortable for long haul trips.

How’s the Tomtom ? AppleCarplay just annoys me, such a business to set it up. I have the bagger without the airbag which allows a phone to stay in the front compartment where I think anyone would want it. Apart from that bike is amazing, even commuting around London sometimes a bit big to filter but narrower than a GS I believe. It’s not impossible and the smoothness of the 6 makes up for it. Free parking or almost free, no CC, allowed to use bus lanes. If people got out of their cars and rode bikes doubt if there would any traffic jams. Enjoy the GW TMF.

I’ve found several dealers service standards have become poor. My Honda hasn’t been to a dealer since it was new three years ago, I do all my own. My Royal Enfield 350 Classic went to the supplying dealer for the 3000 mile service. They set the valves wrong, far too wide, the chain too tight and overfilled the oil by 200ml. That was all they needed to do. What disappointed most is that they didn’t give a monkeys about it. The bike won’t go to another dealer now, I’ll do it myself (design engineer that started on his tools) and take the warranty hit.

Interesting to see you chose a TomTom when you’ve got used to the Garmin interface on the GS Nav V. Maybe test them back to back to see which is better in your opinion?

That is an interesting question. I have run Garmin units in my 4 wheeled vehicles for years. I run a Tom Tom on my V-Strom. The unit is not motorcycle specific and was cheap, around $100 USD. It has worked with just fine with only one issue. For a short period of time whenever I tried to update the maps, it failed to update. The error messages I received indicated an issue with the Tom Tom server. I just updated the Garmin on my daily driver and really like the new features on it. Andy I am assuming that you're mounting the Rider 550 on the Goldwing. I would appreciate one of your good honest reviews on it. I been thinking about upgrading the GPS on the bike to the Garmin Zumo XT (5.5" display) using the Touratech lockable mount.

I agree it can be annoying when expectations aren't met. The Honda shop could have called you before you came back with a reasonable explanation of why they couldn't complete the floor boards, oil change, etc.

Hi Sir, sorry to hear about the teeth, I can imagine your pain, as I have very sensitive teeth, so I know the agony people suffer, moan over, I absolutely Love 😘 your blue Honda Gold wing, she's gorgeous, good look with the service, am sure you will notice a difference when you get her back from the service dealer my friend, take care, have Fun!🏍️

Hey Andy...maybe it's too late now, but it would be cool for you to test some of those motocycle-centric sat navs from the likes of Garmin and TomTom. I always wonder if they are any good in relation to regular sat navs or a mobile app

Couldn’t agree more, the AppleCarPlay on my AfricaTwin gives me the same problems. So I’ve resorted to a TomTom, which seems such a shame. A further thought, if they were only expecting to fit your satnav but then had to find time to fit the foot rest board thingys, maybe that’s why they didn’t complete the job?

you have got my sort of luck, just gone through a heat wave and the only day it hammers it down is the day I have to do a two hundred and ten mile round trip for my bikes first service.😊

I would have tucked away a longer lead from the boot to the handlebars, set up a go-pro mount & used apple play. Really enjoyed this video & feel the exact same about the nights closing in!

I've been riding since 1969 and had quite a few new bikes, mostly hondas, and they were all given a free service at 600 miles, I bought my current honda new in 1995 a cb1000 big one, I also own a 1980 suzuki gsx1000et that I've had since 1986 and a 1968 Cb250K0 which I bought in 1973, not a great fan of the current crop of motorcycle offerings other than a bonneville or interceptor but at 70 I doubt I'll ever get one

Thanks for the trip down memory lane, riding through Ruislip Manor to Ickenham etc. As I was a child at the time (early 1970 's) I would have been on a Raliegh Europa rather than a "wing", it does not look like it has changed much, just more traffic! great content as always!

As a regular customer at HGB, have to say I'm really surprised but then again maybe I shouldn't be. I guess everyone has disappointing experiences - mine have all been at Wheels in Peterborough (ironically an award winning dealer). My wife got a CB1000R for her first big bike and loved it... later got swapped for a Street Triple 765 (which she loves more) will wait with interest for a review.

Intereseting video and a lovely bike goes without saying. Not clear as to whether you added the floorboard work on the day or pre-booked as you had done for your sat-nav but in all you'd think 7 hours would have been plenty of time. I thought your winter tour sounded a good idea and sounds like you have the kit, but then you said your destination might be The South Coast !! What? It's always mild down there, grow some and come up north if you want a winter tour. Plenty to see and penty of bleak countryside to really test your bike and the kit! Stay Safe.

Great video, all built Sat navy’s are are poor compared to a standalone bike Sat nav which have extensive features for touring. Very poor show by the dealer, did the realise that their poor service would be broadcast on KZbin.

Another fun video Andy, 👍. Did have to smile that you had a little moan on how the sat nav was in the wrong setting, yet you have installed a Tom Tom so you won’t be using it. 😂.

You may want to consider touring down through the New Forest to the Isle of Wight for a few days later on Andy. It is very beautiful. You may want to do more miles though (or not). 👍

Did you consider the quad lock over the Tom Tom? I've just fitted one with wireless charging and seems great and can use whatever mappings software I prefer. I did try the beeline too, but couldn't get on with the minimal directions.

Didn't think the labor was to bad maybe a few more quid on the floorboards than the satnav fitting,,but hey ho ,, and you are capable of finishing it up,,do think that for such an expensive bike the Honda satnav would be capable for the journey anywhere,,but live and learn ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland main thing is that you enjoy and use it 👍👍

Very interesting. I have a 2022 GW B, which doesn't have the airbag so i have that slot for my phone. I couldn't get the Android Auto to work and watched lots of videos to no avail, and then I decided on a whim to change the cable. Instant result and everything works fine. I don't get any of the faff you report of putting things on in an order, mine just works. I agree with your comments on the standard sat nav, it is adequate but I prefer Google maps. I also find the sat nav software about 4 years out of date, which is disappointing.

I just bought one of these in the same blue too. I live in America now although i am originally from Oxforshire. And I was told it didn't need servicing till it hit 4000 miles. Am I missing something? I'll buy the filters and oil myself. Silly money to get someone to service your bike who doesn't care about it and is being paid to do it quickly. If I do it I know i'll do it right. Just looked at the service chart and it does say first oil change at 4000 miles.
