It's soo funny that you'd need to explain why you are using the Dream as apposed to upgrading. Hahaha, even if you had the money, part of the experience and draw is using what's available, being budget conscious etc. etc. It's also a clever choice as it makes it a challenge/memorable/experience (especially if things go wrong & how it's initially stressful but then you problem solve. And after that stress subsides, it becomes very rewarding & a memory.) Obviously some ppl are oblivious to A) The Budgeteers B) Backpacking on a budget/without a time limit C) Who you are as an individual. 😉 I hope you have the exciting nerves ready for the journey ahead, I am glad for you to move beyond the condo tours. 😇 Also last thing I understand why you say & the reason for it but I still can't get over all this "we" stuff. Hahaha there is not enough room in the basket for me to come along let along all of us. 😥 All the best Pads, thx for reading 👍🏻

I wish you good luck as someone who has done over 100km in Thailand by motorcycle I can say it’s going to be epic. The good old Honda we’ll be slow, safe and reliable. Most my travels here were 20 to 30 years ago on a 750 Honda. Just retired here last year and my wife had keep an old Honda Phantom for me it 200cc 16hp and 20 years old. Last month I drove it on a 1000 km trip from UdonThani to Nan Lots of back roads TopSpeed usually was around 80Kph. I was quite surprised how well it performed up in the hills just like you I had to put quite a bit of money in it to get it all dialed in it hadn’t ran in a few years so I completely went through the bike and replaced everything total cost was about 50k baht. I have been to 68 provinces and was based out of the south back then. Yala was my home base, you’re going to be pleasantly surprised when you get way down there next to the Malaysian border. When you make your way back up to Isaan we would love have you stay in a small Isaan village with us we’ll leave the light on for you..the only thing I’d have advised you to do is get a white helmet instead of black. To add character you’ll probably have that thing completely covered in stickers by the end of your trip. Maybe start with a nice reflective sticker on the back of the helmet for now, can’t wait to see your itinerary.

Ignore what others say about your bike. A nice slow 100cc Honda Cub is perfect as it allows you to "stop and smell the roses". Also riding slow allows your mind to react to dangers sooner. Been there and done that on a small bike in Thailand. You'll love it

Paddy, excited for you trip! I also love a 125cc bike, it's my preferred size overall, call me crazy. I love the upgrades you made and I think the plastic boxes are the right choice, they are a bit more bump resistant. I would like to voice two concerns if you don't mind... The first is to please get your brakes serviced, I noticed your Dream has a front drum brake, which is not the greatest option, so just to be safe please get them checked and service to make sure they are optimal. The second would be to get a full-face helmet or at least a modular flip-up. The vast majority of impacts during a crash are on the front of the face, if the worst-case scenario happens and you do have an accident it would be ideal to have that area protected. I know chicks dig scars, but you also need to protect your money maker. ;-) Other than that, have an awesome trip, be safe, and I look forward to hanging out when you get to The Big Mango!

My dream would be a Honda Dream like bike with ABS brakes. Unfortunately for me, once you get used you breaking with it, you'll just crash without (front tire blocking up) :/ In addition to another comment: I would also recommend a full face helmet, helps a lot with keeping the teeth in place. Also proper gloves, because of the reflex to support oneself if crashing. Anyway, looking forward to the series!
