This is an introduction to my new Handi Quilter Moxie Long Arm Quilting Machine with I purchased recently from Pinhole Quilting here in the UK.
I talk about the set up process and show you my initial quilting on the machine and some of the tension issues I’ve been dealing with.
I am a beginner long arm quilter so this is a personal vlog type video not an instructional video. If you are looking for that please visit the following channels for some fab advice:

Thank you for asking but, no just my domestic. I am not a quilter per say just love to dabble with fabrics and thread when the mood hits. I love to see others creative beauties though.

I actually did buy a longarm (Tin Lizzie 18) and quilted a couple of quilts on it. Somehow, I never became comfortable with it. It sat unused for years, which was a shame because it was not cheap. I think it was at least 20 years ago and it cost as much as your Moxie did, which was a lot more money in those days. I eventually got rid of the frame and the machine itself is sitting in my sewing room on the floor. Do better than I did! Your Moxie is really nice, much nicer looking than mine was. Make friends with her!

Sorry you didn’t get on with yours. I know the feeling from my Bernina! We didn’t make friends. Hopefully I’ll be able to befriend this one! I’ve already figured out I had it set to far to small a stitch length so that will be why the stitches didn’t look right to me!

In January of 2022 I bought a Qnique 21 Pro from the Grace company with a 10 ft Continuum frame plus Automation. I had some real issues with tension but I think I finally have that figured out. I have quilted 3 quilts on it. 2 with automatic ( which I struggle with greatly) and 2 quilts with free motion. I’m not very good at that but I get by with it and it doesn’t look bad, I’m probably just more critical of my work. However I’m just now after eight months just now beginning to enjoy it more..

Q'nique 15R Bought during pandemic, so the frame was free cuz sales were suffering. After practicing for 6 mos, I could do ruler work easily but freehand was SO hard, as compared to using the domestic. All I could do well was stippling. I broke down and got automation which cost as much as the machine did, but totally worth it. I buy all my pantos from Creative Stitches. Huge sales (less then half price) 4x a yr. $5 new release patterns all the time. I can finish a quilt top in a day! I love it! I can't sew new quilts to quilt, quick enough! I know you'll love it too! Try making a (kids size 44"x60") strip quilt ON the longarm. SO EASY and kids never notice mistakes! 😂

Love to watch you play. I think the Crafty Gemini has a Moxie and has explained some of the controls. Happy quilting. Edited to add: you could make a couple of whole cloth quilts to get some great practice. I made quilts for my dogs and cats out of yardage, no patchwork. Went wild practicing loops and stars and meandering.

Oh My Goodness Kristen, Congratulations!!! Wonderful Purchase Girl, this is great. I would love a long arm, but my husband and I have downsized into a smaller house, our girls are grown, our grandchildren are grown, the last one is a senior this year so there was no reason for us to have a big house at this stage in our lives. I am so Happy For You because quilting your quilts will be so much easier for you now. I cannot wait to hear how this has changes your quilting journey, so exciting. So much fun is coming for you. By the way, you made a gorgeous rose on that cloth while you were playing in this video. Well, I am making my way through your videos, I really enjoy them and you have helped me a lot! Many thanks. 👏👏👏💖 have fun playing and learning your new toy, 🥰👍👏 Chris

I have a King Quilter 2 no computer, for a year and half now! Everything you're saying and feeling I said and felt!! Do check out ruler quilting its quite fun! Am I an expert now? No, but I am a lot better now. About 6 months ago I bought back handles and have done panto quilting, it's fun too but I do prefer free motion. I worked at a quilt shop before I moved and ran a Statler Gamil, computerized. Which I loved and do miss that wonderful machine! But for home not an affordable machine. Just keep practicing you'll get better! But do try ruler work it's fun. You'll need a ruler base for your machine, a must for ruler quilting! Have fun and I wish you many hours of happy quilting!!

I just got a Moxie XL with an 8 ft frame. I, too, was worried about space. I can add the 2 more feet at a later date. It was amazing to me how similar our quilting journies are. I use pantographs. Working on free motion. This machine and frame is not nearly the learning curve that my Bernina was! The thing with an industrial machine, which this is, get used to fiddling with tension. HQ has great video support. 2 quilts done, 3 more waiting to be done. All the best.

I own bernina q20 on classic frame with qmatic....I also have bernina 770 qe tula pink which I love except I cannot sew bowl cozies on my Bernina (too thick). this small thing really bothers me because seems for the price I should be able to sew whatever I want.... yes I've watched your video about 770qe trade in but doubt my dealer would even consider. I got my q20 for Christmas but my husband lost his left lower leg (below knee) to necrotizing fasciitis (flesh eating bacteria) may 13th and spent 54 days in hospital. we are still waiting for prosthetic. so I still not had enough time to learn it so totally understand you being intimidated. your videos inspire me (i admire you for doing free motion and ruler work).... that really intimates me but you make it look easy

I’m so sorry your husband and you have had to go through that! Sounds horrible of course you haven’t been practicing. Big hugs! You will get some time back I’m sure when everything settles down in time. Be patient with yourself and just have fun having a go when you have a chance. When you can get to it try to make it a stress release rather than a stress creator by allowing yourself to make mistakes. I make tons of them! Take care of yourself and sorry again for all you’ve been going through.

Hello! I bought my Moxie and 10ft Loft frame in March 2022 from The Sew Yeah Bros. and I'm in heaven! I built it myself in 2 days only so I know the mechanics of the table and the machine. I also used the Bult App on my phone! I have completed #7 Queen to King size quilts...All are for my family but my last one was for a commission, Twin size Chicken Quilt and made a substantial amount of money! I am getting ready to computerize my machine and I'm excited! I did invest in the Ruler Table and a large Spoon Foot. Previously I owned a sit down Viking but the quilts were getting too heavy for me to maneuver. The Moxie machine is an excellent machine to start with and also to add onto in your own time.

Kristen, so happy for you! I understand the excitement and nervousness on using. It is such a step up from having to horse around heavy quilts on a domestic machine. I have a Grace Q’nique 15R. It’s a very basic long arm, but having a frame big enough for a queen size and not having to crawl around on the floor to baste is so worth it. My free motion quilting is not as good as yours so I use pantographs from the back of the machine and they turn out well . Enjoy!
@ScrapFabricLove

I am definitely not going to miss the basting! Used to take me at least an hour and I would end up with puckers anyway😂! I’m sure your quilts are beautiful with pantographs. I’ve seen lots of pretty ones and I like how uniform they look. My free motion still needs a lot of work but thanks for the compliment! I’m thinking of experimenting with stencils soon too.

Congratulations! The Moxie is a fun machine. I've had mine just a few months and still nervous with it. I have finished 4 quilts with just swirls, and 1 with stars added to the swirls. Today I'm trying leaves on a table runner. I'll be following you so we can learn together!

This is a working studio, not a museum, so leave things as they are till you need a change. This room is for play and joy, not satisfying someone else's dream of precision neatness. I love your candor. "am I intimidated by this machine.. YES" . ))) Its ok the machine takes up half the room. My loom takes up a good share of my kitchen. I have to walk sideways around it to get to the stove and the bathroom door on the back side of the loom. Who cares ))))) There is joy. )))

I bought a Grace Company Q'nique 21 with a 10 ft frame just over a month ago. Still getting used to it, but so excited to have it. My quilts keep getting bigger and the struggle with the domestic machine is harder. How exciting for you. Handi Quilter has the best You Tube tutorials and I watch them a lot. Not so impressed with the tutorials from Grace Company.

I got mine in April and you’ve gone and done far more than I have done. I haven’t practice any intricate stitching But I have finished probably 16 quilts which were just sitting in my closet. Just a very open meandering but I’m happy. You will be nothing but happier the more you use it.

I am so happy for you. Enjoyed your video. Thank you so much. My neighbor is selling her 12ft long arm and I so badly want it and like you new to sewing and have been dreaming about owning a long arm but the space is an issue and I don’t want the opposite issue of having a machine and not being able to use it. The woman is old and wants to pass it on. I am not sure what to do.

Congratulations!! I looked into the Moxie. Drove about 2 hours to give it a try. I liked the feel of it. I am still looking and trying to convince myself that I need one. I have done several Queen size and only one KING size on my domestic machine. The others have been like for a double bed. I started quilting in Nov '21. I have done 14 quilts so far. How much space do you need in the back of the machine?
@ScrapFabricLove
@ScrapFabricLove Жыл бұрын
I think it depends if you are going to do quilting from the back. I have very little space at the back just the small amount to let the machine go back on the carriage. I crawled under the frame to film that bit behind the frame - I don’t have enough room to walk around it 😂

All of my machines are Baby Lock. So when I bought my longarm last year I went with the Baby Lock Regalia on a 10 foot frame. (That has an option to add 2 ft.) I bought the floor model on 5th Saturday which basically means I got 35% off!! I didn't buy the computer either. Wasn't willing to pay $10,000 more for that! Eek!
