I know egg shells help w/ digestion. What do you think about mussel shells? Would it work the same as egg shells? Helpful or harmful?
@TheGardenAndWormLady Жыл бұрын
Yes I believe it will as long as you dry and grind it up

I still keep my AFCs in a super big mesh bag 🥹 They have already been here for a few weeks, but I can't stand having worm jerkies in my basement anymore.

Hi Vee, How long do you leave your worms in the growout bins?
@TheGardenAndWormLady Жыл бұрын
After they hatch? They usually stay about 8 wks The breeders get sifted every 21 days

I just counted out 500 redworms from my bins i thought were pure to start a new breeding cycle, god did that take a long time. Im not too sure how many reds i have left to pick out but its such a tough process, i finally realize why my reproduction numbers were so low

I know it’s hard, took me years to get to this level, not easy don’t give up❤️

@@TheGardenAndWormLady did it take you years because you had to grow your pure stock? If so i guess that would make sense because of having to go through the reproductin process every 21 days and having to wait until cocoons hatch and grow up into mature worms. I think i may end up buying a couple pounds of pure reds to speed up the process. Currently im trying to decide if i want to keep my blues in my main bin which is the urban worm bag or keep it mixed, i counted 400 blues and put them in a seperate breeder bin last night. I dont have a huge plan yet but i think im just going to seperate them, i kept trying to figure out why my cocoon numbers were so low in my last 2 breeding cycles, in 21 days im hoping for even greater numbers
@TheGardenAndWormLady Жыл бұрын
Yes I literally hand picked the red wigglers out, waited to mature. Then had to wait to get the numbers I needed to slowly start the breeder wall 😅

@@TheGardenAndWormLady wow. My blue worms are always trying to escape. Maybe i should just let them leave to make my life more easier lol. Sheesh. Blues are said to be better composters but idk, i plan on making a business out of this hobby so i may keep them in an enclosed enviornment for castings until i can sell them off. Im glad i found out now the difference between the two

How long do cocoons take to hatch?
@TheGardenAndWormLady Жыл бұрын
Approximately 21 days if they are kept warm and moist
