Saw a guy at the Beemer Breakfast yesterday morning. He was riding slab from central Kentucky to South Carolina. I pointed to the small plastic clip buckle securing his large load and asked, "What would happen if that broke?" He said, "I'd lose my stuff." I told him a short story about a Moto Giant who has *A LOT* of moto camping and motorcycling experience and is currently recovering from serious injuries sustained when a sleeping bag locked up his rear tire. I got a response that was an admission that the load wasn't properly secured but he wasn't going to change anything." I tried. I'll keep trying. Some will listen. Others won't. I'm waiting for Amazon Prime Day to see if I can save some money on the motocross boots I'm going to buy for my moto camping and long day rides. I'm still shopping for an upgraded mesh jacket and I'll add good mesh pants as well.

You never know. He may have waited until he was out of sight, pulled over, and secured his load.

@@snake_eyes_garage - I'm going to continue to kindly educate people to pull them out of their normalcy bias complacency. Just because it hasn't been a problem for years doesn't mean it's safe. It only means your luck hasn't run out... yet. I explained the concept of No Single Point Failures, and for critical stuff like this, no 2 point failures either.

I agree that this has made me rethink rok straps. Mosko Moto straps are typical cam statue straps that hoop through. Probably much more secure. Their duffles also have hoops for the straps to loop through.

I’m a former traffic crash recon traffic cop. When you get the crash report back, if the local agency did an in depth reconstruction of the crash, you can probably get the answer you are seeking. A good reconstruction expert can explain a lot.

I don't think there was any question about what caused the accident So i'm pretty sure nobody was called to investigate

Watching this a week after live...and I've ordered boots too. I always wear helmet, gloves, and a mesh jacket, and I always worry about my sneaker clad feet. Not anymore. Went with $130 Tour master solution air boots- not as bulletproof as ADV boots, but 10x better than sneakers.

Looking forward to watching this video. Your experience pushed me And the wife to upgrade our gear. We have been wearing gear for a few years but we had opted for expensive helmets and cheaper jackets. We both upgraded to revit pants and jackets. We’re headed to glacier this year and wanted to be sure we were protected. Something we have realized though is women’s gear needs more attention and riding boots need better options. Seems like it’s very hard to find a boot that is actually protective that’s designed for touring. Of course they all have protective ratings but overall a lot of those ratings don’t always mean they are actually safe.

Glad to see you can still do what you love, it may take some extra effort but there's no reason you can't lead a normal life riding again, wish you all the best in recovery and spirit🙏

The CE mark is like a safety seal of approval for motorcycle gear, and many riders worldwide look for it. Some countries have their own safety standards, but even those are often based on the CE system. It's not perfect, but it's a good way to tell if the gear you're buying is safe. If a product isn't made by a company like Aerostich (a top-tier, U.S. brand, that goes above CE) and doesn't have a CE mark, it's probably not worth the risk. There is very real testing that goes into getting the various levels of certification that exist for each type of gear.

Cycle Gear has a couple of house brands... the crappy one I think you're referring to is "Bilt". I've put hands on the bilt stuff and it's pretty bad. Their other brand is "Sedici" which is a bit higher quality. I have a pair of Sedici ADV pants and they seem to be pretty good. BTW - based on your "tea" bottle, mix in some water!

Is that your sock on your right foot as you finish rolling? I think you instinctively threw your legs out to catch yourself and and right foot went under wheel ripping off your boot and doing damage and then you went over left . The lack of damage to right boot besides tear is the mystery for me but fish tailing with feet out would have put them right where the wheel could catch them. You vid will live on in infamy I can tell you that. Real eye opener for many.

@@MotoGiant For the price of some of the boots I feel like there should be more products that are protective like a MX boot but also waterproof. We tried a waterproof adv boot and it was very flimsy fort off but the waterproofing never even worked. I wear high quality work boots at work and they are water proof and it lasts for well over a year of daily use. There so not reason a 300 dollar pair of boots is basically selling an image. Also if you do find a good pair of boots you likely won’t find them in women’s sizes. Although I am ranting I do understand it’s sort of a small market and the women’s market is smaller yet.
