Your skin looks amazing. Tretinoin is the best. A lot of people stop when their skin gets red or flaky or whatever. Tret is a long-haul ingredient. The longer you use it, the better your skin will look; just be patient and consistent. It's not an overnight fix; nothing is.

I think it’s important for people to realize that there are things they can do to reduce the risk of irritation, as well. Having skin that is consistently irritated isn’t great, but if you can find a way to use it, I 100000% recommend it! Besides SPF, it’s one of the most researched anti-aging ingredients, and is certainly the gold standard!

One thing i started doing last year is something i feel has made such a big difference: whatever i'm using that is ultra hydrating, like thicker night creams, or eye creams, or literally any product that delivers or retains extra moisture or is targeted for fine lines or firming...i apply it not only to my forehead, elevens, and undereyes, but also the sides of my nostrils and around my lips. I am 48, and while i do have mature skin, i do not ever have issues with lipstick feathering or those common wrinkles around my lips. Just something that has worked for me...

I’ve been using tretinoin for a hot minute and at first it was a bit irritating, then I learned “Wait 20 to 30 minutes before applying this medicine to make sure the skin is completely dry. Applying tretinoin to wet skin can irritate it.” Made a huge difference for me.

I can't wait to see your skin progress, beautiful ❤ Also, I recommend using an eye cream that has retinol in it, followed by Cerave ointment to protect your eyes edges from Tretinoin and then apply your Tretinoin on your face. The retinol eye cream helped my dark eye circles which are there my entire life. My only explanation is that the retinol helps with thickening the eye area skin which makes the dark circles appear less obvious. I used the Inkey list retinol eye cream by the way and I am willing to try the Neutrogena one.

Since she’s using tretinion, a retin-a product, adding an additional retinol may be too much. I would imagine that layering actives, especially prescription and non-prescription, is tricky.

I'm going to be starting a prescription retinol soon, and I had no idea I had to put it on after my moisturizer. I totally would have put it on as my first or second step with my serums as I do with my over-the-counter retinol. Thanks for the heads up! It makes total sense to have your skin already moisturized and have a buffer there.❤❤
@Future-zx9ts3 жыл бұрын
The traditional way of applying it is on cleansed skin that is fully dry (pat skin dry and then wait 15-30 minutes after cleansing), and THEN apply moisturizer, etc. The reason some people apply moisturizer is to have a buffer before the Tretinoin, which makes it not as likely to irritate skin, and easier for your skin to get acclimated to it. So you don’t “have to” apply after moisturizer. 😉
@jenessastrickland15553 жыл бұрын
This is so helpful because I happen to be using so many of the same products! I wasn’t sure if the Skinfix cream was too heavy to go under the tretinoin. I also wanted to mention that it is possible to start with a lower strength tretinoin. My main skin concern is hyperpigmentation/melasma, which is made worse by irritation. My dermatologist could only offer me a prescription that was for…0.025 tretinoin I think? So I tried one of the companies that customizes a prescription formula for you, and they started me at 0.005 tretinoin! That’s probably so low it won’t give me any benefits, but I feel much more confident starting with such a low strength that it causes no irritation and then working my way up to a more typical concentration. Anyway, thanks for sharing your skincare journey with us!

Looks like a very good and simple routine. I was going to try tretinoin but found that regular use of retinol and lactic acid have kept breakouts away and keeps my skin looking fresh and bouncy. I may talk to a derm about it when I go in to talk about some sun spots I'm trying to fade but until then, my routine is like yours but with retinol or lactic acid each night. I'm so glad it's working for you.

you can try layering the eye cream once more after applying tretinoin, it should help with the peeling around the eyes (you can do the same with your moisturizer on your face for dryness). Also laniege moisturizing toner helped me a lot with dehydration and pilling of creams. :)

Hi Alex - I'm thinking your face may still be a bit damp after you've applied all the moisturizers, etc., after washing your face. I think maybe if you give your skin a bit longer to 'dry' btw the last layer of moisturizer before applying your tret, you could avoid drying side effects from tret? Waiting longer after washing to apply the tret could cut down on any irritation or peeling you are still getting. I use curelogy. They recommend waiting 10-15m b/4 applying Tret after washing the face - and, apparently, it's OK to apply your moisturizers to damp skin right away, but wait another10min, or so, before applying the tretinoin. Using this method could mean you'd be able to apply tret more often than 3x/wk.

(After moisturizer) trust me it’ll still work. 2) Don’t apply tret to wet skin. 3) Add aquaphor or Vaseline at corners of the eyes, nose, & mouth to prevent cracking. 4) more is not more! Pea size only. 5) don’t mix other actives with tret unless it formulated WITH it 🥰 hope this helps someone 🥰 great video!!!!!

I have really been Liking the Versed Skin Day Dissolve cleansing balm! I have normal dehydrated skin. This routine is going to be for at night. First I use garnier miscellar water to soak my mascara off my eye lashes so I don’t pull them off. Then the versed cleansing balm, then herbivore pink cloud gel cleanser, the laniege cream skin toner and moisturizer, then these next 2 are just targeted on my couple pimples on the moment. That will be with the Inkey list beta Hydroxy acid, and the Inkey list succinic acid. Not sure if I really should be using both of them at the same time. But I have been. But I only use this like 2 maybe 3 times a week. And then I use it is a vitamin C so I use this one only on my hyperpigmentation. I also only use this one 2-3 days a week. So away from where I used the last two. Then I use my Cerave moisturizing cream. And then my Kora Organics noni glow face oil.

Skinfix products are the BOMB!! Also, using a toning mist or hydrating mist before each layer of product helps so much. Think about a sponge, it absorbs much better wet than it would dry. Your skin acts the same, so like you did, spritz your face before serums, moisturizers, etc.

Eyelids are the first to exhibit crepey skin before anywhere else. Alpha hydroxy acid will remedy this. Start with a light application and work up. I am 64 and can still wear foiled and metallic shadows because my lids are smooth. I've used alpha hydroxy acids since the 80s when they were first introduced. Which funny enough is when retin A was first found to work on wrinkles. It was prescribed for acne originally.

Clinique take the day off cleansing oil (or balm) is so much better than the inkey list cleansing balm. That one doesn’t rinse clean ever. The Clinique ones do. I use the oil daily (like the pump and I think it lasts longer) and the balm for travel. Emulsifies off my skin so easily. It feels like magic. (Dry light skin. In my 40’s.).

I was also prescribed the .06 to start with and it was WAY too much for me. I tried for months to get used to it and my skin just wouldn't. So I got my derm to bump it down to a lower percentage and now I can use it every night. Also, there is some difference between the gel and the cream, some work better for some peoples skin that others. So if you feel like you're just stuck and can't get your skin used to it, talk to your derm about trying a different formula or percentage. :)

I don't understand, Aveeno® 1 oz. Calm + Restore Triple Oat Serum has Butylene Glycol and Phenoxyethanol, aren't they paraben ? Then why does it say paraben free, because these ingredients dry my skin !

Hey so Cycaplast by La Roche Posay (has B5) is a freakin game changer when on tretinoin!!! My sensitive, dry, flaking acne prone skin is glowing since i've been using tretinoin and Cycaplast. Cheers✌

Question! At what point do you stop using actives? Are they something you continue to use “chronically”?

The Onexton I’m using until my derm says otherwise, and tretinoin is a lifelong thing. I think you like slowing increase the dosage over your lifetime and it continues to build collagen, refine texture and prevent breakouts. Don’t quote me but I’m pretty sure that’s how it goes!

I still cant wrap my head around people who actually can apply JUST a Pea sized amount. I feel like its not enough coverage for me. My skin isnt too sensitive tho, so i can tolerate applying alot more than a pea size. Around 2-3 pea sizes worth actually for my skin. Either my skin isnt sensitive, or my 0.05% tretinoin isnt too effective lol but daaamn if i put it on my neck, the skin on my neck just goes haywire. I usually only apply on my neck every 2 days nowadays and a whole ton of buffer and that seems to work. Each skin is different tho so do what you think is best for your skin.

Yeah I apply it to my neck too and it burnsss. It literally will be peeling the next day with a very very dark mark where it’s peeling and then in a week it heels and is fine. Idk if that means stop or what lol but I watched a tik tok where a dermatologist said not to put it on your neck because it goes haywire & you get those sensitive peeling sore spots… buuuuut I want my neck to never age soooooooo where does that leave us 🧍🏾♀️
