I just so happened to come across this video, and had to pause to write this. Holy smokes you are SOOO inspiring. I'm also a non-traditional student and just got into medical school this year. Thank you for this, and for giving hope to all of us who feel they can't succeed in this rigorous profession. I'm so happy I didn't give up. I took the MCAT 4 times. Got rejected. And here I am today, sitting on an acceptance and still going to interviews. Grit is EVERYTHING and you obviously demonstrate that.

I graduate in August with my BS in Clinical Psych and my first two years of college were so rough. I was failing and withdrawing from classes left and right and struggled a lot with my mental health . I got my life together and found my passion FINALLY. Planning on taking the GRE over the summer and planning to apply to PA school in the near future. I've tried so hard to bring my GPA up from the depths of hell and currently getting patient care hours as a nurse tech while also being a part of 3 clubs and volunteering on the side. Ive been down in the dumps these past couple of weeks because I feel like my GPA isn't competitive enough to get into any good PA programs but this video really makes me feel hopeful and more driven than ever before. Plenty Of Chocolate The informal route is taking the med school prereqs of your own accord. And preparing for the MCAT on your own or finding a prep course for that. You also will have to get letters of recommendation, shadowing experience and clinical hours by yourself too. A formal program helps you cover everything you’ll need to apply to med school. But if you’re entrepreneurial/self-motivated, it’s a lot cheaper to go informal.

Where i live we go straight into medical school once we finish high school. I decided to go to a public school(completely free), which has a one year admission course. After my first semester i got cold feet and decided to quit and I enrolled myself in a private university to study psychology. I'm supposed to start on march but I feel like I made the wrong decision, since I was so scared of how difficult med school was going to be. I think i'm going back to medicine, which means I'm going to be a year behind the rest of my classmates, and that made me really insecure but your video made me realized that anything is possible, and that being a year behind is definitely not the end of the world. I tried to run an after school program full-time, shadow, volunteer, and complete like 5 classes last semester. My science gpa was horrible due to my lack of time to sleep/study so I had to re-evaluate how I studied and how I was stretching myself. Ultimately, I decided to give my all to school and leave my job (super tough decision). I hated taking out the extra loans but I see this as an investment not “debt”. I’m 22 and I can’t decided if I should go into military . I recently graduated with a bachelors of science and there still so much I want to do before med school and I’m feeling deterred due to the financial burden. There’s the fact that my sister also want to be MD but she down because she’s attending a cc instead of university. I believe seeing a non-triad med student will help. Thank you.

I am literally, in aww, like words cannot even express how much you inspire me! I am in my sophmore year at university and doing EMT training while doing my regular 20 credit hours on a quarter system and I been very overwhelmed and just felt like what if its all for nothing. What if I can't be a peditric surgeon cause my grades weren't high enough to get into medical school, and after watching your videos I just see how there are so many different paths you could take and still manage to reach your dreams no matter how long it takes. All i really am trying to say is THANK YOU for showing me hope. p.s. this might sound a little creepy and possibly weird but I added your youtube channel's name to my inspo wall and told my friends I wanna start growing in life "thebrittnyway"!

You are very welcome! & I am very flattered that you are inspired by my journey and want to grow "TheBrittnyWay" but I'd much rather that you do it 'TheKatlinWay' because nobody can do you better than you can. It's your superpower!

I wanted to be an OB when I was in grade three so I learned to spell obstetrician, lol. Life threw me a bunch of curve balls but I’m at 28, getting my high school AP science credits and pursuing med school. My son changed me and helped me realize I’ve been selling myself short. Medicine has always been my calling but I’ve been to embarrassed to answer the call.

Wow I think I saw your videos about HPSP possibly. You’re story makes me have some sort of hope that things can happen. But during undergrad , I struggled so much just to get to this point in my biomedical engineering major. I had to just relearn how to learn and how to study for this major. It’s like balancing this critical problem solving with the memorizing aspect of science. I had to learn how to be a different kind of student . I’m not naturally smart, I have to put in the work for real to get things. I’m improving and about to graduate in the spring, but I gave up on being a doctor around last year for sure. The process was just so much on top of my major. But my desire as I’m reaching the end and forced into this covid break has brought me to a place of prayer and thought. I know this is still in me to do this. And I want it bad but I just feel lost on how to go about this as a non traditional student. I just feel like I have no clue what to plan to do and I have so much fear inside about wasting my time. I’m only going to be the second person to graduate from a university . (My cousin did it first back in 2017) . I am not sure where to go and what to do. I have a 3.1 gpa and some hours of shadowing and volunteering and extracurricular but I know that means nothing to medical schools (I want to go the OD route). That’s not enough. Some other people have been working in hospitals since highschool and earning 3.7 gpa . If I just had some guidance on what to do now, I’d feel better but I’m very lost. I know people will say look towards a masters /post bacc but is that really the way forward?

You are amazing & should have gotten more than 3 medical school interviews. Oh well, their loss!

You're so kind! Thank you. I am very thankful for the interviews that I was invited to and believe I ended up exactly where I was meant to be! But I agree, their loss!
