My Northern Downhill Chopwell Funduro Race Runs

Here are 3 of my best (not necessarily fastest) race runs from last Sundays Northern Downhill Chopwell Funduro - one from each stage.
Stage 1 = The Power Line middle section
Stage 2 = The Power Line lower section
Stage 3 = Article 50, also known as the Chopwell Mafia Loamtastic Bonus Stage
I hope this video gives you an idea of the sections and what to expect in terms of the track if you decide to enter this race. It is worth noting stage 3 was very different to normal, it changed dramatically with the rain turning part of this section into chaos, however normally this section is a lot more friendly.
You are not allowed to ride with a camera at any Northern Downhill event. However, I was given permission to do this at this event to make this video (thank you). If you have a camera with you whilst riding you will be asked to remove it, please do not turn up with a camera on your bike or yourself.

Ah yes, the chopwell tracks. Live about 5 mins away from the tracks. A couple years ago when I was in my early - Mid teens, me and the lads would gan down this track everyday in the summer, for about 5 years. Gotta say, wouldn’t have gone down them at the speeds ya were going 😂 takes some skill that! Had a mate fall off on stage 1, after the 3 turn, went over on his shoulder and broke his collarbone, and another at stage 3 went head over and knocked himself out, but good job lad. Super impressive. My favourite part of the tracks is stage 2, known as the ‘table tops’ always use to love getting air on each jump

Back in the early 1990s i used to cycle in Chopwell woods as i lived in High Spen. At the time there was only about 4 riders who used to ride there. Wind the clock forward and i have two E-mountain bikes...one hard tail and one full suspension which ive just purchased a month ago. The downhill 1 and 2...im about 12th fastest on my hard tail for embns out of around 280 embn riders on Strava. Id like to think i can get top 5 on my full suspension embn as long as the conditions aint like this 😮.

Well done mate. Did you use mud specific tyres or just leave on what you normally run? Trying to work out how you didn’t wash out on the flat turns in the second part of the video (the alternative powerline bit)

Hello, Thank you very much 😊 I was using a Vittoria Mota on the front and a Vittoria Martello on the rear. The Mota is a loose/mud based tyre but the Martello certainly isn’t. @@JakeBrookesBiking I’m not enough of a wet weather rider to use a dedicated mud tyre, just a magic Mary all year round. I’m onto my 3rd since I broke away from being a maxxis fanboy. I’ve been interested in giving the mazza a go though. Think I’ll try one next time I need a new front tyre. Cheers. I’ve been subscribed for a while now 🤙

@@stolimano3723 Thank you 😊 The Mazza is a fantastic tyre, if I had to choose one tyre to run all year round… the Mazza would get my vote for sure. The Mota is a more aggressive tread pattern but it rolls very well in comparison to other mud specific tyres from my experience. It performs well in all areas too, not just the mud 😊

Hello, to be honest I’m not 100% sure. I believe it may be something to do with insurance but I can’t say for certain. Probably best to contact the race organisers directly for an answer. Sorry I can’t be of help buddy
