After my experience in hospital after giving birth, stories like this no longer surprise me. Most nurses are amazing and do an incredible job, but there's always a couple floating about who are absolute cockwombles.
@yourstandardgoogleaccount3036 жыл бұрын
Me too. I had my son when I was 19. Every nurse except Denise respected me. Denise said to my face "Okay, I didn't know that I would ever need to show this... Give me one second.." And took out a knitted uterus. She proceeded to explain childbirth, like I never went through any sex education in my entire life. ._. Then she kept saying that I should get an epidural because I had to go to the bathroom many times and said multiple times that I should go on Pitocin. I kept refusing, she got mad that my mom was in the room, backing me up, and said that she was "preventing me from making an informed decision." She even tried to give me Pitocin when I was about to fall asleep. I woke up in time and told her to stop. So then she said, "good morning sunshine," and still pushed me to try Pitocin, even though I wasn't even at 2 yet. I eventually agreed to Pitocin after I dilated more, and I gave birth to my son without any epidurals. But Denise gave me the dirtiest look and said "good luck being a mother." Moral of the story: Fuck you, Denise. Young moms can be calm and firm when they give birth too.

Hurr DurrDurr my issues was with three neonatal nurses. The majority were amazing, understand and very empathetic but these three certainly rubbed me the wrong way. I had twins five months ago and one ended up on NICU due to what we now know is basically a floppy larynx flap at the time we didn't know, so we had one twin at home and one in hospital and we wee constantly ferrying back and forth and because we didn't stay all day, one nurse was very judgemental on her tone when I said we'd just got a fridge and I was excited to fill it. Basically saying I wasn't allowed to be happy because I had a sick baby (but she wasn't sick), another nurse was just completely incompetent when look after babies, my daughter wasn't clean properly after having a dirty nappy (diaper) and it wasn't fastened properly or put on her properly and she hadn't even redressed her, my daughter ended up with an irritated bum everytime she had that nurse and then the final one just kept trying to kick all the parents off the ward even though parents are allowed on the ward any time for as long as they like, there's even a room for naps but she'd come in and wake all napping parents up and yell at them for it napping. She came into me and my husband and said "Don't you think it's getting a bit late to be getting the little one home?" referring to my youngest twin and basically kicked us out, even though we'd only been visiting for a couple of hours.

When I had sepsis, I was extremely delirious and I was going in and out of hallucination episodes and shit and obviously I was extremely physically fragile (like I was literally dying so it's not a surprise lmaooo) so I come out of one of these 'episodes' and I was understandably anxious and frightened but I really needed to have a piss (I was on intravenous fluid like catio ) so I ask my night nurse if she can help me to the toilet (I could barely walk because of the sepsis (and I'm also severely anorexic so I can barely walk normally lol) plus the acid trip I'd just been on had scared the living shit out of me and I didn't want to get out of bed for the fear that satan would drag me to the underworld) and I swear to god she turns around and says "you're not a baby, you can take yourself" and then she left. I was so upset, like I was rocking back and fourth sobbing to myself like I couldn't even describe to physical and mental pain/exhaustion I was feeling... So long story short I ended up pissing the bed. I know, I'm 18 and I could have gone you the toilet but I was legit half crazy at this point in my treatment like sepsis REALLY fucks with you and I was in a room all by myself like I was terrified. So the nurse eventually came back and I was crying apologizing (lol) and she basically shouted at me telling me how ridiculous I was being and saying I should be ashamed and then she went outside and loudly told the entire fucking hospital all about how my 18 year old ass had pissed herself. It was honestly the most humiliating thing that's ever happened to me. I don't understand how someone with so little compassion even became a nurse...

When I interned at a couple different hospitals before medical school, I also ran into a couple nurses at each one who were absolutely terrible. One that sticks out to me in particular would laugh about terminal patients when no bosses were around, and she would also brag about her pay constantly. I couldn't tolerate her, and I felt horrible for her patients. I did report her to HR, though.

I agree, carrying the 1000ml bag is ridiculous!! We get a pole for ours in my hospital. I was born with no immune system, so i'm full blow germ-a-phobe too and most nurses are understanding but I've had some, that try to not use alcohol wipes before/during pushing drugs through my canula, where I've had to STOP them and say "EXCUSE ME, PLEASE WASH YOUR HANDS AND USE AN ALCOHOL WIPE OR GO GET THE NURSE IN CHARGE." It's flipping redic. That same day, it took them 4 days to clean my bathroom floor after someone used it when I was in isolation (Not allowed to share bathrooms) so disgusting. What they were telling you to do, really hits home for me.... ❤️

meow meow Sometimes the floor can get very busy and we rush. But I always make sure to either sanitize or wash my hands. And even if I washed them, I wash them again before I give medications because sometimes I go in and the patients ask me to help them to the bathroom or to hand them something, etc. I want my hands clean when I give them meds their hang their fluids
@ApRiL37066 жыл бұрын
Afternoondeelite That's insane. If I run out alcohol wipes I go get some more before accessing the iv port. I'd rather be behind than to give an infection to my patient. Keep reminding the nurses!

Caito. If you have water retention from steroids... You must drink a lot of water. It sounds counter intuitive but it is basic biochemistry/toxicology. Water retention reduces with increased water because body switches mechanism to retain less water when there is an excess of water. Whereas if you're dehydrated your body wants to keep as much water as possible.

Wow, I'm in medical school and I'm so sorry you had such insensitive caretakers. NEVER is it ever okay for a nurse to ask a patient if they've done drugs. That would be a question a DOCTOR should ask and ONLY when diagnostically relevant. The arms of 'users' are also evident to anyone with ANY experience! Should go without saying but NOTHING sterile should go on the floor. That's actually disgraceful. An AI patient should NEVER be rooming with someone contagious. I could keep going but I figured I could reassure your suspicions. LOVE U CAITO and I love your medical updates. STAY STRONG QUEEN

Omg!! Not only is that unsanitary, but IV’s are run by gravity! Meaning the bag needs to be higher than the spot that’s going into. Would not have been good to put it on the floor!

as a nurse I can say this is still NOT okay. private or not it should never go onto the floor, and it should go onto a pole so it can drain correctly into your cannula. I am so sorry this has happened to you Caito, all my love. so proud of you xxxx

Not finding a vein is a symptom of dehydration :/

Fright F0000 some people just have he’d veins to find tho. But dehydration definitely makes it so much harder. Really tho, the nurses usually have to go through my hand to get a vein, doesn’t matter if I’m hydrated or not.
